In elementary school I loved just looking at all the cutaway pictures in these books showing like medival battles and shit, imagining what was happening in my head and totally ignoring the text. Teacher told my parents she was impressed with how much I "read" non-fiction. Even at the time I secretly laughed to myself when she said it.

I had this binder with a bunch of cards, like folded sheets on cardstock with a big pic of the animal on the front and some stats and cool facts on the inside with more pics of course. It was called Wildlife Fact File, I inherited it from my older cousin and never saw a tv commercial and I looked for them at every zoo gift shop.

It's like you took the comic strip you loved as a child AND as a manchild (which has a tiger in it), then applied to the video your posts referenced (which also has a tiger in it). It’s malice, you’re conflating malice with evil. It isn’t evil for a tiger to kill and eat but it is angrily and furiously going to chase you down because it wants to hurt you and hurt you so bad you’re too broken to move so it can eat you alive, it knows it, you know it, it’s malice.

I cannot recomend the TimeLife books highly enough. Well written, lots of diagrams and pictures, a good balance between accessible to normal people and not just simplistic lies. The Planet Earth, Voyage Through the Universe, and Epic of Flight ones are fantastic. Special mention for the fairy tale series that's lavishly illustrated and written as if it's all true, it's great for kids.
The book about storms was edited by Ted Fujita (the F scale for tornadoes) and Robert Simpson (the "catagory" scale for hurricanes), they're all written and edited by top class experts, I count my blessings every day I had them as a kid they are really amazing

Identifying is more of a guidebook but still extremely good. Understanding Wood is a really detailed look at what wood actually is, how different woods handle different stresses, why different woods are better or worse for different jobs, all mixed in with his personal stories of dealing with contractors, artists, foresters, etc. He likes to carve naked women and cows.
