I'll post what I wrote on notepad very recently:

After HotD Season 3, I decided to rewatch all eight seasons of GoT. There is so much for my mind to unpack, especially since I haven't watched these since I was a teenager, but there is one overarching theme in the story which was abandoned in later seasons. Daenerys' conquest of Westeros was to mirror Aegon the First's conquest three centuries prior. The three-headed dragon, the Targaryen heraldry. This symbolism was referenced by many throughout the show, including by the magnificent and regal Tywan Lannister "Aegon Targaryen changed the rules. That's why every child alive still knows his name, three hundred years after his death". Tyrion Lannister was just as learned and scholarly as his father, and would have understood the paramount importance of keeping Daenerys' dragons alive, and would have easily convinced her to protect her children and use them sparingly at all costs.

The largest and most powerful dragon Drogo, mirroring Balerion, was more than sufficient for striking fear and terror upon Westeros in battle. The greatest battle scene with dragons in the entirety of Game of Thrones was "The Field of Fire", was strategically brilliant and had wonderful cinematography. Jaime Lannister would have understood that the game of war was changed, just as Tywan spoke of the dragons under Aegon the First. All major cities and warships in Westeros would have been well fortified and equipped with scorpions and all manner of ballistic weaponry, as they were portrayed doing so in the show. The cities would have been almost impenetrable to dragons in daylight. Daenerys would have easily been taught by Tyrion of this simple fact, and easily persuaded by him. Daenerys would have never risked a dragon being slaughtered by the undead army to be taken as one of their own. Tyrion would have made sure of it, as well as Jon Snow himself. He would have been ordered not to risk his life to try and placate the scheming Cersei. Tyrion would have persuaded Jon Snow of this. Daenerys would never have been so stupid, especially with sound advisors like Tyrion and Varys, to attack the Iron Fleet in broad daylight, and lose a second dragon. Absolutely ridiculous that Drogo survived the siege of King's Landing in broad daylight, if anything should have burnt down the gates and adjacent fortification in one swoop then disappeared before the attack by Daenerys' armies. Absolute lunacy that Drogo and Daenerys destroyed ever fortification in broad daylight, and every warship.

Should have been night ambushes in minor rural fortification and on key supply lines long before the attack on the capital, as well as securing loyalty from the petty kingdoms reliant on agriculture easily destroyed by dragonfire at night. The rural people of Westeros would have easily bent the knee to Daenerys in order to prevent their homes and farms being destroyed. After the "Field of Fire", the cities would understand, that small garrisons and traders would be at risk of dragonfire outside of the well fortified and defended cities, especially at night. One by one the cities would pledge allegiance to Daenerys to allow supply lines to be open. Any city that doesn't bend the knee would starve. The undead would have to be fought with dragon glass and manpower in the north. Every advisor to Daenerys would easily persuade her of this, especially as it was known that horses and mammoths were used by the undead in warfare, so why not dragons if one was killed. The terrifying symbolism and existence of dragons, and the occasional deployment of them, would have easily allowed Daenerys to conquer Westeros. No need to risk their lives, especially of all three.

Why were people ok with this?
