Childs lied about the lights so he's obviously the Thing. MacReady killed the Thing so he's obviously not the Thing. There, mystery solved.

the thing is about puppies and unrestrained alien mutations . it has nothing to do with jewish control of the world which is slander and a lie.

Keith David gave an interview a few years ago basically saying people were looking way too deep into this final scene and making it out to be more than it actually is
>>
>>222771825
It's really weird how this is objectively correct, with blatant evidence, yet rejected by so many and seemingly controversal. They desperately want it to be some stupid, nonsensical twist instead of what's directly shown on screen. It's really weird.

>a literal sequel exists involving Carpenter where both Childs and MacReady were both human still
>somehow this is too hard to understand and people rather argue headcanon when facts already exist
>>
>>222771825
>Macready killed the Thing
Every Thing entity looks out for its own interests. In the end Macready also completely changes his plan and decides it's fine if the camp just goes cold again and lets the Thing freeze into the ice.

The real answer is that both of them were the Thing in the end and human paranoia has infiltrated the Thing organism since it began assimilating them from the start of the movie.
>>
Is there a single scene where any of the Thing'd guys talk? The Thing could NEVER hold a conversation like they do here.

A comic book written after the original release had bombed. Its not Canon. The director's creative process is contaminated by failure and the cult resurgence of the films popularity.

There's a fanfic from The Thing's perspective that's a little interesting. The tl;dr is that it's trying to bring salvation to Earth and doesn't understand why everyone is afraid of it.

MacReady was. He left the bottle with Blair when they locked him up who later turned into the thing after having drank from it.

Yes, Norris and Palmer are explicitly things for most of the movie and talk just fine. They know what they are doing and stay in the background, refusing leadership roles but sowing chaos and suspicion among the group.

mac's willingness to freeze to death is suspicious after wanting to kill the thing even if it meant his life, he could be a thing or he's bullshitting childs in order to get his guard down (to kill him or absorb him)
there will never be an answer

The black guy was the Thing, he drank from the bottle where everyone before cooked molotovs in them. The beard guy laughs because he understands the black guy is the Thing. Whether the beard guy is ALSO the Thing, doesn't matter that much at this point, the Thing won either way in this case.

The real question is if the people who are the thing know they are the thing. I think they obviously do because it makes things make way more sense. The idea that they don't is extremely retarded, why would the thing keep trying to find people in isolated areas if the person it was imitating didn't know they were the thing. Gotta be one of the dumbest theories that came out from this movie since it always seemed very obviously not true to me

I am not stupid!
The movie is stupid!
In one scene the doctor or whoever that guy was, I haven't seen the movie in a long time, just poked around in a corpse with a pen and then let that pen rest against his lips.

If the actors and directors don't take the movie seriously, why should the people, who watch it, take it seriously? You really think it was that deep? When such stupid mistakes happen in the show? I mean McReady almost killed every single other Human by chaining them up together with the Thing. None of this is that intelligent or deep. It's all retarded.

>>222776022
he's obviously lying, the question is whether it's because he's the thing (the generator goes out right after he leaves the base) or because he wants to hide the fact that he's a coward who tried to ditch everyone the minute he was left alone
>>
>>222776066
WHY SHOULD I DO WHAT YOU SAY, THING!?
>>
>>222776061
>just poked around in a corpse with a pen and then let that pen rest against his lips
he didn't touch the corpse just pointed at it, and even if he did who's to say a single cell would be enough to take over an entire human body
the simulation just showed a single thing cell taking over a single dog cell
If a single cell was needed to infect someone all the thing had to do was sneeze in a crowded room and it would have won

I don't really like the idea of the thing have any kind of intelligent altruistic motivation beyond an autistic urge to spread itself. I think the fact it is smart enough to build spaceships is more to do with what it's eaten and less to do with its own intrinsic intelligence. It's even likely that the ship it crashed on isn't even it's own ship, but a ship of another alien species it infected and caused to crash. We'll never really know but what I do know is that making apologetics for the thing is gay, it was obviously bad

I thought the point was that neither of them were. The whole theme of the original story (which Carpenter wanted to accurately portray) is paranoia, so it makes sense to end on it.
The idea that the titular "Thing" is the monster of the film is secondary, because by all evidence it's just a nigga trying to get away. That's why the story is so good:
both "monsters" (The Thing itself and the paranoia of the men) are, in reality, acting relatively reasonable and logical.
I stand to reason that the 1982 film and the novella are Tragedies, moreso than anything else. It's horrific imagery, but it's sad circumstancially.
>>
>>222776061
I think that's the point actual autist anon. Also I used to think the same thing to but upon further viewings I realized he never actually touches the thing with the pencil at all. Also on top of that he is under the impression that it's dead so, while still gross, he had little viable reason to be so careful with it. What's more concerning is that he was dissecting the thing with a couple of piddly gloves on. His arm could have very easily of brushed up against the slime of the thing and that's yucky. We don't know if it needs just one cell to take you over or not for sure but it was still gross, which is literally the point of the scene, to make you guess later in the movie.

Also all the guys getting chained together was a matter of necessity in the situation, MacGreedy was literally holding everyone at dynamite-point and it was really the only way to do it. Not as retarded as you want to make it out to be

I always equated it to the Crystalline Entity from Star Trek: The Next Generation, because I think it's pretty apparent that The Thing could have just easily fucked everybody and everything up and 100% spread itself in less than an hour if it absolutely wanted to. The same way the Crystalline Entity, compared to the crew of the Enterprise and any other cosmic entity at that point (apart from Q, maybe) was so much more powerful, but only ever used it when it presumably needed to eat. Then it just kinda went on its way, posing no threat, showcasing no malice. To that extent, I think at first The Thing is genuinely just trying to hide/escape and is just afraid.
I always liked how MacReady's first assumption is likely the best explanation for The Thing's nature; it's just a foreigner that got woken up after a long (understatement) nap and immediately was set upon by the locals, not necessarily to the fault of either party. Both parties are biologically incompatible to the point where it's virtually impossible for either to act altruistic. The Thing is a movie about victims of circumstance.
