It was a massive controversy and led to a lot more broadcasting standards to reduce strobe effects in TV shows and putting warnings when they're present, and the episode was never localized in the Western release nor aired in Japan ever again. You play a video game from the 80s to early 90s and you'll often just get this crazy blast of strobing out of nowhere in some section of gameplay for an effect, it's funny how few fucks were given.Also unfortunately led to Porygon being persona non grata in the Pokemon anime adaptations despite it not even being him that caused the strobing in the episode, it was Pikachu.
