The scene appears to depict a genuine encounter in the dwarven court of Khazad-dûm, consistent with one of the central narrative threads confirmed for the new season: Sauron must confront Durin IV directly within the dwarven realm, while Durin's brother returns to vie for the throne—a internal conflict that promises to compound the external threat posed by the Dark Lord himself.

According to the official logline released by Prime Video, the season takes place five years after the fall of Eregion, at the height of the War of the Elves and Sauron: the Dark Lord has already conquered nearly all of Middle-earth's territory, leaving only a few isolated pockets of resistance—Khazad-dûm, where the Dwarves remain locked away in the depths of their stone halls, and the remaining elven realms. Elves, men, dwarves, and wizards will need to unite against time to prevent Sauron from achieving total domination over all life in Middle-earth.

The season will also show, for the first time in the entire audiovisual saga—including Peter Jackson's films—the interior of the tower of Barad-dûr, where Sauron will finally forge the One Ring.

The cast brings back Galadriel (Morfydd Clark), Elrond (Robert Aramayo), Gil-galad (Benjamin Walker), Arondir (Ismael Cruz Córdova), Disa (Sophia Nomvete), and Queen Míriel (Cynthia Addai-Robinson), along with newcomers such as the casting of Celeborn, Galadriel's husband, and the introduction of the nine mortal men destined to become the Nazgûl.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power premieres its third season on November 11 on Prime Video.
