>Treats everyone like puppets because of their abilities
>Thinks little of people; to them, people are monsters and mindless sheep
>Discovers someone who can’t be controlled
>Immediately becomes obsessed with breaking that person and making them submit
>Isn’t a front-line fighter; instead, they use others to fight for them and as meat shields
>Has at least one rapey element in their story
>Controls the hero’s love interest in an attempt to break the hero
>Puts the hero’s loved ones in danger
>One is treated as an irredeemable monster, while the other is portrayed as an innocent victim who did nothing wrong
What's up with the double standards in Marvel? Why is Killgrave's death treated as a poignant victory while Jean needs to be "saved" by the hero?

What?!? It has one of the most satisfying and emotional romance scenes ever made after the chase and a classic example of the Japanese "enemies to lovers" trope. And the Japanese version even released a song about Peter and Jean's relationship

>>
>>222778196
I mean not saying you're wrong but these were written by different people like a decade apart. Marvel/Disney has oversight sure but things inconsistency in tone and themes are bound to happen when everything is made by different people under only a vague sense this is all meant to tie together.

It just feels like it clashes too much with what Marvel had previously set

I love that song! Oh boy, here we go again~
>I know love through knowing loneliness
>Using all five senses, saving you
>Means saving me too
>After all, we're just people connecting

>Beyond an "I-I-I-I love you"
>I'm not alone anymore
>Clear the darkness by being upbeat
>I hold your words in my heart, yeah

>(Beyond an "I-I-I-I love you")
>(I'm not alone anymore)
>(Clear the darkness by being upbeat)

>And when the wounds in my heart have already started to hurt
>What will you save with this sacrifice?
>It's all completely inevitable
>My righteousness lies here

>Breathe, be aware
>That the cruel pain of living has a meaning
>While believing at the same time
>That nothing can be done
>And I fight again today

>Take me by surprise
>I just keep myself updated
>I sing and swing in the rain
>I hold your words in my heart

>A dream of a person wrapped in a cocoon
>Shaking hands with hope
>Looking in the mirror once again
>At a brand new me

>Beyond an "I love you"
>I'm not alone anymore
>Clear the darkness by being upbeat
>I hold your words in my heart

>Take me by surprise
>I just keep myself updated

Its an ends justify the means situation. You can agree or disagree personally.

Jean is trying to save her sister from being imprisoned and tortured. Most of the people she controls and attacks are directly working for the corpo that took her sister. The Doctor's ends are living a life of luxury where he gets and does everything he wants.
>>
>>222778196
Director already confirmed she killed no one
>>
>>222778196
Because She is a main character and not a villian. And not a villian in the sense of in all the past movies she was a good guy, and then its discovered she has something evil in Her that needs to be controlled.
Dont overthink capeshit anon.

That's what makes him so cool, Killgrave is not psychic but his ability is biochemically induced. So in theory he could control Peter. I think Killgrave could be a great evil mentor figure or dark mirror to a Jean who wants to turn a new leaf.
>>
>>222778663
We're not Japanese and Jean Grey didn't lose face or experience guilt at the end of the story. She's not the goddess Amaterasu and above those under her sun.
In our realm in the West, she acted as a demon that violated the sanctity of the self when she possessed the multitudes (including children).
There was no repentance for her sins.
No metanoia.
>>
>>222779709
A shame they killed him off in Jessica Jones. I think he could work as a great villain. Maybe Peter could follow a series of crimes thinking its Jean again only to fall prey to Killgraves' mind control.

No wonder China is a world superpower now and pursue SpiderJean while the shambling West is in ruins and keeps trying to push for Miles and keeps trying to make Gwen trans.
Hell in the latest spiderverse trailer they made Gwen look even manlier as if it wasn't enough.
>>
>>222779828
The West is being dominated by the Feminine Spirit; allowing women to reign free without consequence. Who can deny that women have possessed and dominated the spirit of men here?
Even here on this realm/board, men pridefully aspire to women/troons.
This antinomy and its friction increases entropy and makes this place hellish.
The film was a fractalization is what I just said.
>>
>>222778480
Yes. Scott, Logan and Peter are so lucky
>>
The japanese movie, cure, is the grounded version of both these movies.
>>
>>222779798
I could see it, and Jean may try to save Peter from him and face what she herself did. I think that'd be a natural progression for Jean instead of messing with cosmic events so soon.
>Ignore the X-men, Phoenix and cosmic shit. Leave that for an Avengers crossover
>There is no Xavier institute, Jean remains a hood rat struggling to make ends meet and starts the show with the barest form of telepathy and telekinesis strong enough to move a coin a few inches by extreme concentration. Her main skill keeps being possessing people
>Jean arrives to a city and hoping to prevent others from feeling the loss she suffered, tries her hand at superheroics and keep trying to track the guy who murdered her sister
>Turns out she's pretty bad at it and struggles with not going overboard (how does Peter do it?)
>Catches the attention of a charming man who she can't easily read and control
>He proposes to teach her how to become a proper superhero and shows her that he has a very similar ability to hers to make people obedient
>Starts teaching her how to use her abilities but his ruthless methodology clashes with the example Peter set
>She ends up rejecting him, after which she learns that he actually wanted to harness her abilities as a weapon
>She sets to catch him but he parallels Jean in his use of people as meatshields and makes them commit crimes

>Show turns into a police series with Jean trying to capture him but struggles because he is too skilled and she has to concede moral ground to get the upper hand
>Peter joins shortly after to support Jean and through their relationship get closer to capture the villain
>The series shows them starting to date and the mushy parts of their relationship as contrast to the gruesome detective cases Jean solves
>Show ends in climatic scene where he puts Peter in danger and Jean has to resist the urge to kill in order to win. She manages to defeat the villain but barely thanks to the power of love and Peter's help, representing the death of the old Jean by capturing the villain instead of resorting to murder
>Peter congratulates her for her growth and they watch the sunset
>Symbiote arc starts here!
Also Jessica Jones collaborates in some cases although she displays an inherent hatred for Jean MCU Jean and Purple Man are quite similar and its already been stated by previous works that telepathy and mind control is a very rapey power
I think that's a good way she could be integrated in the MCU without having to redo the tired Phoenix arc all over again.

>Damn what about superhero fatigue?

To be fair it was a great story.
>Destin Daniel Cretton would originally direct Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. When Marvel redeveloped it into Avengers: Doomsday, he dropped out. Kevin Feige then offered him Spider-Man: Brand New Day and put him in contact with Sony execs Amy Pascal and Tom Rothman, who were searching for a new director after Jon Watts from the Home trilogy declined to return, and Cretton’s pitch landed him the job.
>Other directors in consideration were Ruben Fleischer (Venom, Uncharted), Drew Goddard (The Cabin in the Woods, Bad Times at the El Royale), Justin Lin (Fast and Furious, Star Trek Beyond), John Francis Daley & Jonathan Goldstein (Game Night, Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves) and Adil El Arbi & Bilall Fallah (Bad Boys For Life, Batgirl).
>Writers Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers decided early on that mind control would be part of the plot. Their original choice for the villain was the Chameleon, but he was unavailable due to his appearance in Sony’s Kraven the Hunter. They cycled through several other villains like Mister Negative and the Spider Queen before landing on Jean Grey.
>Tom Holland produced the film and compiled a document with everything fans had been asking for, such as a practical suit and street-level stakes, to serve as a creative guideline. He was also adamant about having a complete draft before production started to avoid the post-production issues of the Home trilogy.
>Zendaya recruited Challengers writer Justin Kuritzkes to polish the Peter/MJ scenes. She also suggested that MJ get along well with the Punisher and be fascinated by his lifestyle rather than dislike him as in the original script.

>Holland’s first pitch for the plot was rejected for being too similar to Captain America: Brave New World. Spider-Man fighting the Hulk was moved from the third act to the midpoint for the same reason.

>Before Bill Metzger, the director of the Department of Damage Control was a woman based on an obscure X-Men villain, the Leper Queen. Anne Hathaway, Nicole Kidman, Carrie Coon and Sarah Snook all turned down the role before it was rewritten into Metzger.
>The Rhino, 8-Ball, Big Wheel, Paste Pot Pete and the Enforcers are among the villains that were cut from the opening montage. They developed 50 recreations of classic comics covers, but only used five.
>The original ending featured Jean controlling all the supervillains Spider-Man had arrested in the opening montage into attacking him simultaneously, but it was ultimately scaled down to Spider-Man fighting DODC guards and the Hand.
>The Hand had a bigger role in an earlier draft, with Silver Samurai as their leader. Cretton liked the concept of Spider-Man fighting an army of ninjas too much and kept them in as DODC enforcers.
>Cretton wanted to introduce the Bar with No Name where low-level supervillains hang out, but it didn’t fit the narrative.
>There were plans for a nightmare sequence where Peter turns into Man-Spider, but it was deemed too scary for kids.
>In addition to Punisher, Hulk and Black Widow, Captain America and Shang-Chi were also considered to appear in the movie.
>Savage Hulk would originally be grey, but the studio decided it would confuse audiences. They considered several different interpretations, some in which he walks on all four and is constantly twitching from pure rage, some in which he is eloquent and vengeful after years imprisoned in Banner’s mind, before landing on the final version.
>A deleted segment of the fight has a water main breaking, and Hulk attempting to drown Spider-Man by holding him underwater, which the studio cut as it made the Hulk too villainous.
>>
File: Jean is JUICY.jpg (335 KB, 1748x2300)

>Spider-Man would originally knock out the Hulk with the Shocker gauntlet, but test-audiences thought he was defeated too easily, so they reshot it to the Hulk easily destroying the gauntlet, and attempting to kill himself after Spider-Man manages to calm him down by reminding him of their friendship.
>Rosario Dawson filmed a scene as Claire Temple that was deleted from the final cut. She now runs an underground clinic for vigilantes, and Spider-Man visits her to get patched up after his fight with the Scorpion.
>Another deleted scene features the doctor operating on Spider-Man after he is shot choosing to keep his mask on to preserve his secret identity. Meanwhile, the Punisher clashes with the police officers outside.
>A deleted running gag featured spiders being drawn to Peter following his mutation, and following him wherever he went.
>The ending scenes of MJ sitting on the school rooftop and holding the necklace Peter gave her, and Ned instinctively doing his and Peter’s handshake were filmed in a deliberately ambiguous way. MJ and Ned could have regained their memories, or MJ may simply be developing feelings for Peter all over again, while Ned connected the dots after MJ called Spider-Man “Peter” earlier.
>The flashback scene of Jean and her sister Sara in the park was added in reshoots to further establish their bond. Despite Sara being the older sister, her actress is 15 while Sadie Sink is 23.
>Sink revealed that there was a cut where Jean verbalizes that V-Max was just the faded sticker in the air vent of the cell where Sara died and that her actions were for nothing, but it was ultimately decided Jean’s heartbroken expression after seeing the sticker and realizing the truth got the point across well enough.
>Holland revealed that they tested an alternative ending where MJ and Ned regain their memories at the studio's behest in case audiences reacted negatively to the ambiguous version they favored, but that version actually tested higher.

>Holland and Jon Bernthal are longtime friends and helped each other through their Marvel auditions. Bernthal refuses to portray the Punisher in PG-13 projects, but made an exception for Holland. Due to their natural chemistry, Peter and Frank’s dynamic changed from them hating each other to them having a brotherly rivalry.
>There were 3 takes of the ending, one where Michelle and Ned recover their memories, one where they don't and an ambiguous one. But the fans didn't like them recovering their memories and after pushback the studio decided to leave it ambiguous.

They treat it as the evil acts it is the entire time though, eventually Spider Man finally gets the upper hand on her and although she has Omega Mutant type of power finally finds a way to cure her insanity and rage by giving her a friend to relate too basically.

I guess you could say its Eye For An Eye at the end of the day and they let her go as long as she doesn't hurt anyone else and probably explained she would become an Avengers Level Threat and other bad shit would happen to her if she doesn't calm down. They cut that for time.

Believe me they will show Magneto turning the Empire State Building into a big cannon and shooting something and he will be wisked away to a asylum instead of killed in his movie, as drinker would say Believe THAT. Mutants of any gender are usually hand waved away and X-Men is kind of a silly comic if you think too hard with multiple genocide level events happening.

The blip was just horrible to begin with. Aside from one Spider-Man movie it basically just felt like no time has passed or there were any consquences.

Jean at least has a valid grievance.

Purple Man is just an asshole.

Jean froze loads of people after DDC deliberately goaded her. DDC pretty much amped up her powers.

It's obvious Marvel is going to do Dark Phoenix a FOURTH time (MoM is basically the same trope, so they have done it three times already).

Just repeating the same tired shit over and over.

Hope not, I'm sick and tired of that one

Hope this is true. Would be extremely smart of them to do. Hope they retain whatever chemistry director or whatever the fuck their called they had because the overarching relationship between Peter and Jean was very cute. I hope they recognize what they did that was cute and amplify it
>>222787388
Ya it could be really interesting. Kinda a bummer that next time we'll see Hollandman it'll be another avengers end of the world silly event. I want more street level stuff with him and I hope they try their best to keep him low level. Let Tobeyman be the big epic spiderman for now
>>
Women don't take accountability for anything, even in fiction
>>
>>222785734
With the power levels of the MCU she'd be even more useless than the spiky asian guy from the X-Men movies. The most she ever did in her show was just shove people 2 feet farther than normal
Only the Iron Fist would contribute even less, which makes me kek that the actor was asking in. Dude struggled in 1v1 fights against random Paul Blarts and got btfo by any named character he faced
>>
>>222787802
Dark Phoenix with this Jean will most likely end up very tragically, imagine if she dies and Peter goes to depression again
>>
>>222778196

If Kishimoto is to be believed he influenced the movie so probably. It does feel like a shoujo, I don't think it ever focused on Peter's relationship in that depth before. I quite liked it.
Hope they team up more often

?
>>
>>222790214
Yeah but would they do that to Jean? I think its reserved for villains or r rated films
>>
>>222790363
Why not? It's basically harmless, it just feels weird and invasive, functionally it is the same as Jean invading your mind, just with a wacky visual.
What Jean did was already worse, taking someone's autonomy and kissing. It's objectively more rape-y than finger fucking someone's face, even if the later look more like it.

>Not a single thought went into her powers
Jean Grey is busted as fuck, it's that simple. There's a reason she stomps most characters when she's evil.
This applies to every Omega level Mutant btw
>>
>>222791285
When she is experienced or reaches Omega levels or phoenix, but in the movie she could barely mind control a few meters at a time at the start.
>>
>>222791213
Scott x Storm especially Kit and Maya look good together, a stacy and a chad, unlike Tom and Zendaya who look like a twink and manly woman
>>
>>222790118
Jean's harem will keep on growing
>>
>>222791311
And she's more interesting that way. I hate when writers have to come up with contrived reasons for why she can't just make everyone pop like grapes or just mind control her way to victory. At least this Jean has clear limitations and weaknesses.

Might be better. MJ was a drag, always making Peter's life miserable and distracting him from hero work. Jean can actually patrol alongside Peter and understand the other side of his life as a superpowered individual.
If they keep limited like they did in the movie, they could make a really fun street level stakes story.
>>
>>222778196
Jean at the very least has a goal and her actions are in service of that goal.
Killgrave does it simply for love of the game.
Jean's still a monster and the movie lets her off the hook far too easily but there is a pretty significant difference between her and Killgrave.
>>
>>222798311

>>222792750
Redundant? It has just become more crucial than ever. We need to see Jean say "You have me" to Peter to cure him.
>>
>>222798765
Oh I agree, I want to see Jean tell that back to Peter. Just not sure if its too soon.
I think Marvel should ignore the incursions and instead setup the universe as it is instead of breaking it again and remaking all from scratch.
Set up the character dynamics properly, fire all the woke trash writers and make Spiderman the face of the franchise.
Then after several movies introduce the symbiote and then have their "you have me" callback.
But I can see them being retards and have Jean say that to Peter in the Dr. Doom universe breaking arc only for them to fail anyway, making it feel cheap.
>>
>>222778196
A shame he got killed off, Purple Man is a really cool villain in comics. They should have him and Doom interact

BND would have been way better if it served as a movie to move on from MJ and end up with Jean or even just be at the point where they are now.
Now it's some weird middle state where they don't remember, but also don't love each other, but are also clearly set up to be in a relationship again at some point.

I completely agree with you and it annoys me that Spidey is going to end up with MJ again simply because Tom is married to Zendaya in real life. I think Tom probably made it a condition of his return for a second trilogy that Spidey has to gradually regain his relationship with MJ. And that sucks because we ALL know that Spidey is MUCH better with Jean Gray than MJ.
