this is joe darowski's only good movie and that's ok. I don't hold it against him for making nothing but pretentious trash before and after this

It strikes me as quintessential film student wankery, too far up its own ass with symbolism to tell a coherent or compelling story despite having some interesting visuals here and there. By the end of it I can't help but see Joe's character, and by extension Joe himself, as one of those 70s new age scammer gurus like rajneesh/osho, spouting empty platitudes to his cult followers as if it were divine wisdom

>>222779084Yes I thought act 3 and their hippie circle at the end were meant to be taken sincerely, it seemed clear to me that the movie was presenting the materialist world as sleazy and that Joe the hippie guru was not, he was meant to be imparting genuine wisdom. if that's not the case and then it went over my head but I didn't get that impression
