Which only further entrenches them in boredom and makes them drink more consistently as a result. Because making yourself dumber by drinking is WAY easier than changing your life until you actually enjoy it and become an interesting person as a result.

One of the most pivotal little memories I have that has stopped me becoming a real alcoholic is when I was at a girl skate demo in 2008. Dustin Dollin was there. He was the only one drinking at the entire skate park with hundreds of people. He was supposed to be one of the "pros" that people came to watch skate, but he literally looked like some bum that just walked in off the street. He couldn't even land a kick flip on flatland and was acting like a total jackass. just annoying the other pros like Eric Koston while they were kind of just avoiding him. Thinking he was being this totally cool dude while everyone was wincing. It was more so the fact that it wasn't like he was having a couple of beers and then shredding the park. The thing he was there to do, the one thing he was good at in life had been tarnished by alcohol. That memory really stuck with me and made me realise that whatever small thing you might have in life that keeps you going will be torn up if you become an alcoholic

Whenever I buy a bottle I think about whether it'd be cheaper in bulk, the memory of that scene stops me from doing it
I have very little interest in getting old, but I like what I value what I have while I'm relatively young. Once I hit 40-45 though and have already reached what I know to be my max physical potential etc I will simply drink, smoke and hedonstic max myself to death
