a.i. artificial intelligence is slowly getting a reappraisalwhat did you think of it when you first watched it, possibly back in 2001?
>>222781066Holds up pretty well and it made me realized how much Haley looks like Sora from KH. Obviously he is his voice, but i never made the visual connection.
>>222781066The second half will always be shit.
>>222781066would they really have made a gigolo bot with stage 3 norwood
>>222781066It was a good movie, I just wish Spielberg hadn't chickened out on the dark ending
I grew out of the Nostalgia Critic review saying it's bad and decided it was really good, actually
>>222781155It was the style at the time.
Bicentennial Man did it better imo. Also lol another spielberg film with aliens
>>222781211>bicentennial man>only lives for 200 years
I like it. I remember retards batching how Spielberg made the ending feel-good but Kubrick would have made it totally sad and edgy but then it turns out it was Kubrick's idea.
>>222781222He has like 5 movies with aliens, bro.
>>222781066Isn't it a little weird to trick your mom into thinking she's not going to be dead in a few hours so you can have a fake birthday party?
>>222781066it's a real tearjerker. i wouldn't watch it with a special lady friend for that reason
>>222781066The ARG was better.
it was ok
>>222781166The ending in the movie is the one Kubrick wrote back when he was trying to make the movie.
>>222781354It was the first movie to have an ARG I think?
I've masturbated to some of the scenes on several occasions.
>>222781222>>222781246Those are aliens? I thought they were just hyper advanced robots.
>>222781066I thought Spielberg had added that faggy ending.
Spielberg murdered Kubrick so he could manage the project at his own thinking will be as important in film history as 2001, but oh boy, he was wrong
>>222781559Yes, clearly Spielberg was desperate for work at the time and willing to murder for a movie.
>>222781542Same. Everyone called it 'Spielbergian' and saccharine, which it was. He was miffed about that, but also, that's why he was Kubrick's choice to make it
>>222781307Yeah, its supposed to be sweet but she doesn't know about her impending doom. I don't get it.
Sappiest shmaltziest most dogshit Spielberg movie. Hard to believe it was conceived by Kubrick
>>222781066the scene where he sinks down into the sea in NYC and meets the angel was great. The scene where he got to meet her mother again made me cry.
>movie about robots>ayyy lmao out of nowherespielbie is a hack
>>222781887Those were advanced AI robots, not aliens.
>>222781222>AliensMidwit. They're advanced robots and the last scene is a mirror to the opening of the film.Davids fate is to be studied like an artifact of a bygone era.
>we can only bring your mom back for one day>why?>because it's sadder that wayBravo Stanley
From my first viewing in the theater I remember being shocked by the body horror scenes and fully checked out by the end. The plot about him trying to find a fairy is as gay and uninteresting to me as an adult as it was back then.
>>222781066I thought it was gay and felt bad that my grandpa had to take me and brothers to it
>>222781066Never watching mawkish-meister doing a Kubrick script. They couldn't be more far apart in their worldview or approach to the audience.
>>222781066The most important scene was the "Flesh Fair" when they're destroying robots but the crowd turns against those running the event when they see Osment's character because even though they know he's a robot, he looks like a child. This is how people will be enslaved by AI. By making people feel sympathy for it even if it is just a program without actual consciousness.
>>222781066Sad movie
>>222781929Cheap ripoff of Star Trek: The Motion Picture
I enjoyed Haley more in 'Pay it Forward'.
>>222781066It was alright. Don't know what there is to reappraise. Did people not like it or something? Most people I knew at the time enjoyed it. I guess there's some alternate ending or something? And maybe the aliens aren't actually aliens?
>>222782455>maybeThey're advanced mecha.
>>222782477It's amazing how many are filtered by the ending.A lot of retards on this board.
>>222781867>schmaltzyYou sound like a lover of modern writing. Lets make it ironic, self referrential and strip it of all earnesty.I'd take classic schmaltz over modern cynism any day.
>>222781066Ending sucked, movie should have ended 20 minutes sooner.
>>222781145You are wrong and it was great start to finish
Hey, Gigolo Joe. Whadda ya know?
>>222782568Boomer will live
>>222782828English is not your strong suit.
>>222782925The dog's name is Boomer, zoomer.
>>222783042Lol not a zoomer, basedlennial.
>>222782477>They're advanced mecha.No. Aliens are cooler. Therefore they're aliens.
>>222784444checked but you're retarded
>>222784444They're advanced mecha. In every draft of the movie, from the initial treatment Kubrick wrote back when the stupid fuck tried to make the movie with an actual robot, all the way through to the version Spielberg made with Haley Joel Osment.
