Three Cheers>Bullets>Black Parade>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Danger Days
The thing that really struck me recently when listening back to MCR is the sheer amount of genuine feelings put into music. It is almost completely devoid of irony and meta-commentary.Just look at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uCUpvTMis-YIt's so nice hear something like this, in the modern day. Even the music choice for the song, the way it is arranged is meant to enhance the emotions, not act as a vehicle for subversive subtext presented in a less affronting way; happy pop music with heightened sexual undertones (fell for the biggest dick etc).

>>222790067I had no idea they were even still a band? In my mind they broke up in the early 2010's and have been just chilling.

>>222784739This. At the end era of MTV all the screamo faggots bands showed up and my chemical romance was genuinely one of the most faggy bands around.
>>222790309 Black Parade came out 20 years ago and they’ve been experiencing a resurgence in popularity due to zoomers discovering them, so they been doing a world tour playing the full black parade album

>>222784566Is this the MCR trivia thread?>Gerard Way was on a train headed to the World Trade Center for a job interview on 9/11/2001. When the train received notice there was no station anymore, it stopped on the tracks and everyone got out and watched the towers burn. He walked all the way home to Newark rethinking his life. He decided he'd try to form a band to make music for lonely kids.
>>222784566Revenge, easily.
>>222792354Where can Vampire Money be heard?
BP was a insane album, no wonder even zoomies enjoy it. They would enjoy it even more if surrounded by early 2000s culture though, crazy how much was lost
>>222784566https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bKzU9N_eM4c
>>222786783I saw them in 2008 at an old iron blast furnace that doubles as a museum and a concert venue. It was a killer show even if it seemed like they were exhausted and over it by this point from over a year of touring.
>>222784566I liked his Doom Patrol comic a lot, wish they made an omnibus for it

>>222791057I saw them during that tour and it was amazing. kinda weird to have the show peak early but even the second half that wasn't about BP was kino
I saw my chemical romance in concert in 2011 and they were legitimately the worst live act I've ever seen. They had no stage presence. I liked their first two albums and was excited to see them but they sucked hard
it's wild that he also helped co create Peni Parker
>>222784566I thought he got old bald and fat
3 Cheers and Danger Days after that
>>222788382what's he meant to do? not age?
Danger Days > Three Cheers > Black Parade > BulletsDon't get me wrong. I still love them all. It's not just a nostalgia thing; MCR made some really good music. It doesn't matter that it's all kinda gay. They really went for it, and it worked.Way did some other good comics, as well. He had a great run on Doom Patrol.
>>222792354i feel like the green route is too linear, doesn't really connect up to the other stuff, it's just some other random facts.it's like saying>The Umbrella Academy is published by Dark Horse Comics>Dark Horse Comics was founded as an alternative to Marvel/DC>they won the Star Wars comic book rights from Marvel>when Disney bought Star Wars, the rights returned to Marveleven the Robert Pattinson stuff is tenuous. it's not like when the David Tennant Dr Who married his on-screen daughter who was the real-life daughter of a previous Dr Who.
>>222792855It's on Danger Days
When's the new fucking album.
>>222796005Have you listened to The Black Parade: The B Sides?
>>222796059Yeah, for the past decade and a half.I'm dying for a new concept album.
>>222796062I hear you, man. They were the best of the era. I hope they're cooking something up.
>>222796074Like it seems like they're doing some sort of dictatorship angle.I'd be down for that. Crazy journey into a fucked up country with political drama. That'd be perfect for MCR.
>>222796085I haven't seen them. No bands come to the South anyway, so I don't know about it. But just based on what you've said, it sounds right.
>>222790067Saw them a few months ago, was an awesome gig. Shame they have to transpose the songs down a half step but still a lot of fun
You might like this: https://youtu.be/-KcrO6JMFAE?si=L_rXQUxfdYIcJNoIIt's a cover/tribute album for Three Cheers. It's goth music where MCR wasn't.
>>222795994That's a fun fact. For any other daughter it would be a nightmare scenario for her husband and father to bond over Dr. Who, but I guess in this case it works out perfectly because she obviously must like it too. I wonder if the mother in law ever feels left out, kek.
lol https://youtu.be/9FL5VoXKVf0some of the gayest shit all-time. all-time.
>>222796503that's kino
Hot take: Black Parade would be a true 10/10 album if Teenagers was left off the track list.
stopped listening after BP released and all the normies and laggards became fans. terrible sound and I hate that gay uniform. their earlier stuff was fun. exact same thing happened with Green Day when they released American Idiot. anyone fuck with FFAF? Casually Dressed and Hours are so fucking good and then everything after is shit. what happened mid 2000's? everything stopped being good. I didn't outgrow it, there was a deliberate and visceral change into a boring grey sludge ''made for everyone'' sound and is seems to have affected everything. it went from 'this thing really connects with me' to 'nothing is made for me any more' and if you ever bring it up people look at me like i'm crazy
>>222796634Don't cater your taste to the whims of the chattel, anon. Like what you like.I don't know how you could enjoy Three Cheers and then call Black Parade gay, but like I said that's all you, man.
>>222796674because it doesn't sound anything like their previous albums?
>>222796634Ye, recently changed my opinions on "nostalgia" and downloaded a bunch of 2000's emo. Funeral being one. Even when i was "in the scene" no one else listened to Funeral. Locally where i live it was Silverstein, Prom Queen, Boys like Girls, All Time Low... Just realized i can't say "and etc" as that's pretty eclectic with little overlap except time. God the time before everyone had access to the internet was nice.
>>222796717I don't want to argue with you. This thread has me listening to them. I really enjoy all of what they did. Your taste is your own. Cheers anon.
>>222793592As one rightly should.
>>222784566moar liek gerard GAY amirite lel
>>222797308Ha! Ha ha! HAHAHA
>>222796746do you like BFMV and Lostprophets? BFMVs first 2 albums are absolute bangers. also Coheed and Cambria are the only band I can think of putting out albums as good as their earlier work>>222796768er OK, cheers then.
>>222796634Its the influence of the producer. Or a sort of "producer effect". Black Parade and American Idiot were both produced by Rob Cavallo. There is a reason why a lot of big bands that are within the same genre have the same "sound" even though they have completely different styles. For example Korn and Limp Bizkit's first albums. They play wildly different styles of nu-metal but Korn and 3 dolla bill y'all were both produced by Ross Robinson. Its not that MCR/Green Day decided to become "mainstream" or consumer friendly overnight, even though as much as you'll probably hate hearing it, its just that they worked with a producer that was tried and tested to have been successful before. Rob produced Green Day's older stuff so he simply kept evolving his sound and got Green Day's American Idiot in 2004 and later on he produced Black Parade in 2006. As for the MCR uniforms and the sort of emo look Green Day went for it was because MCR and Green Day tried to blend pop punk with a rock opera concept. To me It was sort of like taking Queen's bohemian rhapsody and applying that idea or style of song and song writing to an entire pop punk album, at least thats how I see it. Just bigger, more theatrical pop punk with a story. But MCR/Green Day ended up creating pop punk albums with theatrical or semi political story lines with characters and settings and shit. I liked It but I see why a lot of people felt like it wasn't for them.
>>222797629this is genuinely one of the best replies I've ever got on 4chan. I had no idea about this guy but he did the EXACT same thing with Linkin Park. they made 2 banger albums (hybrid theory is the best nu-metal album of all time) and then bam, 2007 hits and they release normie sludge. and it was the same fucking guy this whole time.
>>222797719>then bam, 2007 hits and they release normie sludgeYeah, everything after Meteora is forgettable. I cannot fathom how there are "modern" Linkin Park fans, as in people who only like everything after, because it's so bad in comparison.>hybrid theory is the best nu-metal album of all timeI agree, specially after I've been listening again after some time. It has aged extremely well and musically speaking it's lightning in a bottle (original release).
>>222797785it's a rare 'every track is the best track' album. even at release I thought it was perfect and now at 38 it's still phenomenal. Bayformers released in 2007 with Minutes to Midnight and I remember hating both. Interesting point about Korn and Bizkit btw because I always thought they had an almost identical guitar sound.
>>222796226Yeah, I suppose that just comes with getting older. But at least they still have energy and enthusiasm
>>222794110i love MCR but i skipped the last two tours because they suck live gerard can't sing outside the studio
>>222784566i'll never forgive this faggot for ruining deadmau5
>>222800217They were amazing when I saw them in Nashville a few weeks ago. They were better live then than they were 20 years ago. I'm sure a lack of drugs and alcohol has something to do with it.
>>222784566You just can't top tbp, kino from beginning to end
>>222796634>exact same thing happened with Green Day when they released American Idiot. American Idiot is a good album though. i remember everyone saying it was gay at the time, they'd sold out, it wasn't Dookie, whatever.i was about 13 and it just was (and still is) a good rock opera. i like actual pop-punk so that doesn't bother me, if it's not 'real punk' or some shit. every track on the album is a banger.but idk i also remember when Crystal Castles were silly anti-music lolsorandumb guys actually viral marketing themselves. now it's actually just 'cool' music. everything is generational innit.
>>222800456that's good to hear, probably has something to do with that plus transposing down a half step like another anon said. i probably should have gone. i'm getting older and i still love going out till late at night (nyc) but for some reason i'm tired of big concerts so i haven't been to one in years
>not placing black parade at the very top advice all elseyeah we get it, you're a contrarian/hipster (or both) and that's your personality
>>222795994I didn't make it, it's just someone's visual attempt to catalogue the butterfly effect of MCR up to current year. The tumblr fanbase likes to laugh that Gerard not getting 9/11'd resulted in the Ellen show dying. Also reminder that 50 Shades is fanfic of Twilight which is fanfic of Pride and Prejudice.
>>222796154I saw 'em in Florida and Frank + family were on my flight back to jew jersey. It's worth going to see them even if they haven't released the new album yet. They're doing way better than when they first reunited, even if they'll never be young and in their prime again. New album is very much themed on USSR and Bolshevik tyranny, authoritarianism etc, so I can't wait for the modern political commentary whenever it's released.
>>222788199Just because I listen to the music doesn't mean I actually pay close attention to the lyrics.
>>222786662Well maybe if he gave it a less retarded name he'd get more credit.
