i was disappointed by Return of the King. but 13-year-old me was somehow convinced they'd 'pause' making fantasy/adventure/spectacle films for a few years, like 'how can anyone compete?'then a year later i saw Van Helsing and i enjoyed it way more than RotK.i still think Fellowship of the Ring is a great film, i view it as standalone movie. the Hollywood comedy and Gollum really bring the other two down.
