It's incredibly funny how no other dinosaur movies can touch these three.
>>
How? They had muilti-million dollar budgets, cutting edge CGI and the biggest talent in the world working with an incredible story.
The people who made those movies are unable to make movies like them anymore, either. Notice the immense drop off in quality after the third one following the fumbling and aimlessness nostaldiga memberberries the rest of them ended up having? It's cause Chrichton died.
>>
>>222793281
I never really understood why The Lost World is marketed as "the raptor one" when they're barely in the movie and get mogged by a little girl.
>>
>>222793304
Stan Winston also died and all the dinosaur designs went to utter shit afterwards.

I can forgive it because it's a bit more clever than your standard movie tittles.
They could have easily just called TLW JPII but having it called the same name as an homage to Sir Doyle's work because it's about an island where dinosaurs are free roaming just seems correct.
And JPIII is just cool because of the claw marks and the main dinosaur antagonists in it all have 3 (three) claws. I dunno, I think they're great for what they are. I'm probably autistic.
>>
first Land Before Time and whichever sequel has the flower.

Walking With Dinosaurs 3D if you watch the Cretaceous Cut on the Blu-ray (no voiceovers/dialogue/comedy, how it was originally intended).

also those Ray Harryhausen dinopics by Hammer Films. some of my earliest boners (the csvegirls, not the dinos).
>>
>>222793281
I was mildly impressed with End of Oak Street for having actually dangerous dinos and killing off some characters. Then they press a giant reset button at the end and I wanted to throw something at the screen. Even gayer than having Spielbergian PG13 violence is pretending to have stakes and then undoing them.

Yeah and the whole finale is an incoherent mess because they cut out the raptors that were supposed to be on the ship, so they could focus on T Rex in suburbia scenes. What killed the crew exactly?
>den who was phone???
>>
>>222794036
Eh, they had the usual loser dad storyline and the mom is a bit girlbossy, and there's a couple of added diversity characters to add some browns to 1980s huwite suburbia. For 2026 it's not much to be outraged about in that department. After they arrive in the past there's not much time for them to sit and talk about their homolust, because it keeps the pace up pretty well.
But like I said the ending undermines everything completely.
>>
>>222793307
It's weird to think about because the first and third are the actual raptor movies, third probably more than the first.

>no other dinosaur movies

I could think of several ways to bring back interest. Here's one

The Lost World (Arthur Conan Doyle)
>Use modern VFX, tasteful dinosaur designs
>Zero woke casting, main cast should be white. There will be black actors because the original novel also had them, but it won't be fucking Challenger or Roxton
>Pure adventure, no subversive messaging, no irony
>>
>>222794845
It could work if they actually commit to the way dinosaurs were represented at the time as a period piece. I guarantee it wouldn't be as popular if it pushed for modern accuracy.
>>
>>222794845
>>Zero woke casting, main cast should be white. There will be black actors because the original novel also had them, but it won't be fucking Challenger or Roxton

I lover Jurassic Park but I hate that it holds an unofficial monopoly over dinosaur media by scaring execs into refusing to even bother trying because most non-JP media bombs.
>>
>>222795077
The real issue is that most non-JP stuff bombs because it's shit.
Nu-WWD, 65, Primal War, Oak Street, etc, all garbage.
Even Jurassic World is shit, but it's only saving grace is that it's desperately hanging on the coattails of the first despite simultaneously trying to distance itself from it.

Yes, Kong 2005 was pretty close to what I had in mind. Massive production values, no sugarcoating of the barbarity of natives, nightmarish creatures... Just don't cast Jack Black.

>>222794986
I think people consider it a King Kong movie first and foremost (which it should be) rather than a dinosaur one. But the dinosaurs and art design are still top tier; the artbooks still fetch a pretty penny and the V-Rex design is popular with third party toy manufacturers

I watched 3 again last week, it's basically a decent action movie with none of the philosophy, and with some very kino and memorable scenes
>>
>>222796815
Raptors are barely in JP1, not until the last 15 mins

They're both the Trex film really
>>
>>222796914
Hard disagree, the raptors are the bomb under the table for the whole movie, being the first dinosaur introduced and constantly built up and foreshadowed.
The entire third act is theirs until the T. rex steals the show.
>>
>>222796933
I guess but still you don't even see one until 1h 40m in
>>
>>222796953
That's the magic of the first movie's writing. You don't see them much but their presence lingers throughout most of the movie. They're basically the final boss of Jurassic Park.
>>
>>222796061
Those dinosaur designs sucked so hard.

Other dinosaur movies treat them like monsters instead of the animals that they were and behaved like when they were alive. That's the disconnect. Other movies don't invoke a sense of awe and wonder, like Grant seeing brachiosaurs to John Williams swelling musical score or quieter moments like coming upon a sick triceratops.
>>
>>222797380
The thing is Jurassic Park also lets them act like movie monsters when it fits. The raptors act like slasher villains and it's perfect for them.
>>
>>222793281
It saddens me that after JP2 they dropped the "multiple giant carno" gimmick

>JW1- Rex but smart!
>JW2 - Super Raptor!
>JW3 - Biggest Rex ever!!
>JW4 - Rex but Mutant as FUCK!!
>>

I hate how they use dinosaurs I like then make them stupid. If you’re pretending to be an animal fag if two animals are fighting and another random animal shows up those two animals will turn on the newcomer every time. If the giga was fighting the therizine then the rex showed back up the therizine and giga would have turned against the rex, but somehow the animals in this film knew the writers intended the giga to be the antagonist character so they worked together to defeat him. Garboslop I regret watching.

I just fucking love it!
>>
>>222799860
Cats are evil so that checks out
>>
>>222799990
I mean that in earnest though. How do you think animals like a raptor might have lived? They spent 100% of their waking hours prowling around killing shit, piling up bodies, a wild fox will spend days during the summer killing as many unguarded goose hatchlings it can get its hands on and save them for later. It’s reddit to say “duh they’re evil movie villains” when all they do is sniff around looking for shit to kill exactly like any active predatory animal would, especially these things which were zoo animals that are now suddenly free.
>>
>>222800027
Yeah, of course it's realistic animal behavior to do things like throw around a grown ass man while being tazed and shot from all sides or hiding in the dark to wait for the perfect moment to pop out and go boo or to have carefully placed a severed arm in a high up place so when you pop out and go boo it will fall down and double scare her, how could I have forgotten?
>>
>>222794036
The dad is an alcoholic who lost his job and is hiding it from his family, and the mom has fantasies of abandoning her family. But the mom's flaws felt kind of softpedaled. The movie really felt like it was originally over 2 hours and cut down to 90 minutes, so I think there was more stuff with the mom that got cut.
>>
>>222794471
The T. rex rampaging through San Diego ending is based on the 1925 Lost World movie ending with the Brontosaurus rampaging through London.
>>
>>222794023
Idk why the humans in end of oak street were so pathetic. The neighborhood that gets teleported to 200 million years ago is huge, with hundreds of houses, but yere is literally 0 attemp to coordinate at all. There were no police, government leaders, or ex-military who would immediately try to organize people into a militia, or at least try to secure supplies? The whole place feels oddly like a ghost town right from the start.

It also was pretty funny to me how overpopulated with animals it was. Like 800 of the biggest dinos ever are in this one small forest.
>>
Pixar's the good dinosaur

Yeah reddit you’re being disingenuous big time fuck off.
Pitbulls will be mauling some old lady and you have 15 people beating them and stabbing them and they won’t let go.
