I liked that scene. The autistic acting of the main character was the part I was most annoyed by. It doesn't sound like an actual autist, it's like they ripped the performance straight from some shitty 00s medical show trying to portray autism and failing.
Candle Cove pasta wasn't that original itself, "wot if cartoon / show was real" is not a super original concept. Also in TV Glow I think the idea is that reality is not actually real and the show is the reality (obviously a riff on The Matrix).
I will say that these films are carried mostly by music and Eric Yue (the cinematographer). The writing is very on the nose, not just about the trans topics, but all of it. It's almost Rick & Morty tier meta normalfag writing while the formal approach suggests something more "elevated". Also, people seem to compare these films to Lynch but it really is more derivative from Gregg Araki than Lynch, no? Totally Fucked Up, Doom Generation and Nowhere in particular.

Guadagnino's Suspiria was mediocre (worst ever is overkill, but whatever), I can definitely gate virulently hating Jeanne Dielman (especially after it was astroturfed by Sight & Sound for no reason really, it's not even the best Chantal Akerman movie) but every time I see someone hating on Breathless it's just signifies the person lacks appreciation for actual fundamentals of cinema as an art. It's a great and ridiculously influential movie.
