To call this "cosmic" seems pretty ridiculous to me. I know that it's implied to be extremely important but it never seems that way. Doesn't even seem particularly dangerous.

This movie was good up until the scene where she freaks outs and blames him for his wife being a huge bitch. After that I just wanted her to die she was a terrible therapist.

Cosmic horror isn't about the "importance" of the thing, it's just something that's otherworldly and difficult/impossible for humans to comprehend. Saying that, the Backrooms as depicted in the movie aren't really hard to comprehend frankly. It just seems like a dimension that copies the outside world over and over but constantly makes mistakes and then stacks mistakes onto mistakes. I guess the "reason" for it's existence is incomprehensible, but no more than the reason for existence of anything at all. I think the concept Parson's used can basically be interpreted similarly to Stephen King's Langolier's where it's basically the leftovers of the immediate "past", but here they're copied over and over, possibly under the influence of actual humans experiencing and remembering reality differently.

Well that could describe a haunted house.
I think cosmic horror does need to involve something important. After all the word cosmic implies that the horror has something to do with the larger universe, and something like "we're going to the Crazy Dimension" doesn't fit it in my book.
