The Disney Spider-Man movies are a perversion of the character in service of a propaganda machine. If you think about the Raimi iteration of the character, his villains have mass fortunes while Peter struggles to keep his head above water delivering pizzas and selling photos to the Daily Bugle. The Disney films invert this dynamic; his villains are scorned by the rich and powerful while Peter vies for their approval. I keep seeing people praise the newest movie for being the most comic accurate and yet he has never had a job. Much like Uncle Ben, his financial troubles are quietly swept under the rug. “Maybe Tony left him a slush fund!” Even if he did, how would he get it when no one remembers Peter Parker? Forget how he affords it- how does he get an NYC studio apartment without a credit score? Another aspect of this incarnation, present since his first outing, is the integration of an AI assistant built into his suit. Why is that part of it when it isn’t in the comics? Because they needed to seed the idea into young audiences that AI is cool and fun to use. Homecoming payed homage to Ferris Bueler in a scene where Spider-Man tumbled through suburban backyards. That movie opened with Ferris hacking the school database; the message to its audience then similarly being “hey kids computers are cool”. By invoking that teen comedy, they suggest you treat this movie the same way; fun, light hearted. In Far From Home, Peter gets NSA / Palantir glasses that let him immediately access his peers personal information and call in bomb strikes for some reason no one really understands (it’s to indoctrinate the children further into thinking this kind of thing is fun). No Way Home sets up this Peter as being able to do what his predecessors could not; curing their rogues gallery with technology instead of just beating them (technology will deliver you from pain, children. It is the solution to all life’s problems).

I rewatched Tobeyman recently and I was reminded of how poor he was, how so much of the experience of the character is that he's dirt poor, everyone he can actually rely on is poor. Is it really that hard to believe that he might have had a part-time job or two off-screen in the 4 year gap? Maybe it just wasn't that interesting to show like most of his crime-fighting adventures. They only showed the highlights. We don't need to see every single group of street thugs he beat up, we don't need to see every single time he clocked in at Mcdonald's either. It's just something he did when had some downtime and saved up enough to buy his computers and such. Peter is also implied to have some amount of college education under his belt at this point. Aside from sneaking into Banner's class, he is never shown inside a college classroom or doing homework or anything like that. It was a big deal in the comics! It was a big deal in the last movie, the whole reason he messed around with magic was so he could get at least his friends into college! Why isn't it the focal point of this movie? Because it's not what this movie is about and it's not interesting enough to even acknowledge. They trust you the audience to fill in gaps like this with their imagination.
