The actual biggest crime of Peter Jackson was almost singlehandedly (well, at least Richard Armitidge had surely helped him in it) re-inventing Thorin/Bilbo as subtextually gay relatonship. We already had Sam/Frodo, Merry/Pippin, and Gimli/Legolas in the books, no one was asking for any more of this cancer!

>>222804898But a lot of people had walked away from reading the book(s) assuming that they were. Yes, in case of Merry/Pippin it actually only had happened because some women are just yaoibrained, but in the other two cases... forgive me from heaven, mr Tolkien, but there is some stuff in the text to lend these credence.

>>222805281What is the heterosexual explanation for Bilbo after Thorin's funeral struggling to explain to Balin who Thorin was to him for good ten seconds before uttering an awkward "friend"?
>>222805439There is no sexual explanation whatsoever. Torin at one point turned into a mad tyrant who threatened Bilbo's life. It was a complicated relationship.
