I saw the Raimi-Tobey trilogy for the first time because of all the hoopla around the new one breaking BO records. I actually thought the second one was a good movie, and didn't dislike any of them, despite the third obviously being overstuffed. Dafoe, Molina, Simmons, Dunst, and yes Maguire himself were excellent, Raimi was perfect for those movies.

I wonder if he would have played well the early 2000s comics storyline where Peter becomes a teacher. Not likely we are seeing such a storyline in a while because the current actor, whom I have not much against, was obviously chosen because he will look like a kid for another decade.

The third one struggles from having a lot going on by on in a relatively short run time. Probably too much, but it also has some endearing goofiness to it, that might be nostalgia.
