Why is lighting a forgotten art in cinema nowadays?
>>222819855Overreliance on post-production when actually crafting the movie, plus the general audience wouldn't even notice or care anymore. You get what you deserve.
>>222819855Why bother when the goyim still pay the same money to watch ugly dogshit?
>>222819886pretty much this, shoot it flat and dark so you can slop it up in post.
I think lightning became dogshit once they stopped using black and white regularly
>>222819855Nobody wants to work on fundamentals, they all want to chase trendy flavor of the month bullshit. It's been a growing problem in photography broadly for decades and decades but it's gotten particularly bad since the mid 2000s. Well and the influence of cynical marketers certainly isn't helping. It's sort of hard to sell your new variant of zoom lens or camera body if the average photographer realizes that it's the lights and modifiers that really makes for a compelling image. Or that 200 element zoom lenses have objectively inferior rendering qualities to low element primes despite a technically higher corner to corner average sharpness and flatness. If you've ever been anywhere adjacent to the photography scene in the last 25 years you might remember the big push toward "naturalistic light" and the refusal to use strobes or modifiers ever. And how massive amounts of upandcoming photographers used that dumb pro trend as an excuse to never improve at using artificial light which resulted in an entire generation of photogs being completely incompetent when it comes to reading how light will fall and knowing what needs to happen to create the look they want or need.
>>222819855Color grading is shit too, there aren't any true blacks and no true whites anymore, lack of contrast makes everything look muddy and fake
Digital can shoot with minimal light, so unless you want to make it look good you don't need to bother with expensive and time consuming lights. So obviously hacks and producers prefer to not bother.

>>222819995yeah they are too scared of crushing blacks so everything ends up looking desaturated. and that isn't even a bad look if it is properly graded but it rarely is.
>>222819855All modern media, be it games, cartoon or live action movies, are a race to the bottom how low the quality can get before people stop buying the product.Adult Swim animations and Netflix shitshows prove that this abyss has no bottom.
>>222819855Extremely photosensitive digital cameras that make a well lit set unnecessary.
