Internet media was more obscure, in that it didn't generate as many views, didn't have as big of a normalfag audience, and certainly didn't have the eyes of moneymen. Then from the actual production side, there were fewer widely available tools, and those that were available were less powerful, and there was almost literally infinitely less free, quality instruction on how to use those tools. A Kane Parsons born in the late 80s would not have been able to grow up learning how to 3D model, and whatever he would have made instead would have either been posted on New Grounds, a site known almost entirely for games, porn, and cartoons, or at best on the very early era of YouTube, where at best he could've been contracted by Screw Attack or something. The reality is he probably would've been posting to these sites with zero industry attention, maybe a tiny fanbase, gone to college for film and/or animation training (if he were even accepted), and gone the usual industry grunt route.
