The show is this confused mess that's ashamed of the comic and wants to be better than it but past season 1 it had no plan on how to do so, and just ends being the same shit with the writer's weird fetishes. But the comic at least knew what it wanted to do, there's a point to Homelander being a victim too, there's none in the show, it's full on Trump derangement syndrome there.

I can understand why they wanted to try to update it for 2020s politics but they went about it in such a hamfisted way. Like making Homelander a Trump analogue is such a fundamental misreading of both characters. If Trump is analogous to any character from the comics, it's Vic the Veep, the brainless Vought puppet who ends up in the White House. I can't help but feel that with this show ultimately being bankrolled by Jeff Bezos, they just didn't have the balls to actually follow through on what the comic's message is, where the real evil is Vought and more generally the system it represents. That's also why they made the CEO character a cool calm badass who gets away with everything, while his comic counterpart has a mental breakdown and ends up homeless and wandering a farm in the middle of nowhere.
