How does a franchise go from the first interracial kiss on TV to copying something Dan Harmon did once over ten years ago? This is so creatively bankrupt, lame, and sad. You can tell the writers room working on the show thinks they are too good for sincere sci-fi. What a fucking shame.
>>222846096Dan Harmon holds the exclusive patent for puppets? Or is it Gimmicks in general?

Just watched First Contact for the first time. On its own, it's a really nice-looking well polished movie. In the greater context of Star Trek I kinda dislike it. I've always heard that the Borg Queen ruins the Borg as a concept; I figured it was just because the Borg didn't need a "main villain" character added--I didn't know it retroactively acted as if she was always there AND gave her a really stupid motivation that completely deflates the Borg as an alien force (she wants a mate or whatever). Also where was Picard's obsessive Borg hatred during the events of Descent? Whole thing comes out of nowhere. I similarly didn't like how Kirk suddenly had an over-the-top hatred of Klingons in The Undiscovered Country.
>>222856420Why did they make some random black lady the main character though? Was she supposed to be the audience self-insert?
>>222856524>Trenchcoat with bowtie
>>222856420I think Kirk's temerity for the Klingons was much more well-earned than Picard's hated for the Borg. We already get the blowoff of the Borg thing in the episode Family which is genuine great -- having Picard still raging out so many years later just undoes that fantastic episode. But the Klingons killed Kirk's son. That in itself is pretty hard to get over. More than that, he'd been at war with them for most of his professional career. Maybe his entire professional career? Who knows how many friends from the fleet that he lost to the Klingons. And he doesn't have an episode like Family where he gets over it all.Kirk is more flawed and human that that. He holds on to his grievances and his flaws because they are part of who he is and he doesn't want to forget.
>>222856368>Honestly McCoy is always a highlight when he's on screenHe's a total fucking Chad. And DeForest Kelley served in the Army during WW2 and said some fans told him his performance inspired them to become doctors mega BASED
>>222856726>served in the Army during WW2never forget Scotty lost a finger to friendly fire on Utah Beach
My grandpa always said he could never trust McCoy on the Enterprise because DeForest Kelley made his name fro himself as an actor playing bad guys in westerns. It's kind of funny and more than a little sad how many little interesting details like this get lost to time and history as things go on and audiences change.
>>222847298I got federation fatigue pretty quick. I really liked Thunderbolt but I ended watching the netflix 3d miniseries for some Zion fix... it would have been better if I wasn't a chud.
I like to imagine the bit of Evil Kirk in The Enemy Within smashing stuff and screaming that he's Captain Kirk was Shatner's audition tape for the role of Kirk.
>>222854766>>222855442what's the title so I can find it
>>222856698I agree that Kirk's hatred is more justified and in-character than Picard's. I guess I don't really like the addition of David and Carol to Kirk's backstory. Men like them don't have families...So far Final Frontier is my favorite Trek movie. Kirk/Spock/McCoy banter is my favorite part of TOS and it's basically 2 hours of that.

>>222857266Its crazy how people try to claim "Star Trek was always a liberal, progressive show! Muh interracial kiss!" when each season of TOS has several episodes that are anti-collectivism.

It's Gene inserting his ideology in the show. But it's fine because it's kino.

I have almost finished all of Trek Online's storylines. its a little sad you can tell which voice actors phoned it in (Kira, Odo, Paris). Kira sounds depressed and checked out, Odo is missing some of his inflections and I'm not even sure that was Paris and not AI.Meanwhile, Garak, Rom, Nog and Kurn sound exactly like the show. Even Tuvok, Neelix and Bashir sound decent. Kim made me laugh everytime I heard him putting on that fake deep voice. Theres one episode in particular, I think called Quarks Six or Seven or something and it feels like a DS9 episode.

>>222856524Supporting, not main.>Was she supposed to be the audience self-insert?Basically. Picard needed an outsider to challenge him since the crew didn't have the heart to call him up, only Worf did and even then he ragequit rather than stood his ground.
>>222858092>Kira sounds depressed and checked outThat's sad because I love Kira, I feel like they do her character justice in the books though. >>222858644>sexy short-haired blonde leaves the show>then they bring her back just to shit on herIt is a bit strange they did it twice.
On the other hand, Janice was treated very respectfully when she returned. They might have felt bad about the Mirror Kirk rape thing or the superpowered Chudcel thing.

>>222861654>Flashback scenes of Jadzia Dax are conspicuously absent from the end of the episode because the producers were not able to obtain permission from Terry Farrell to use her image. [11] Originally, however, the script had called for clips of Jadzia to be included in the scene. As Ira Steven Behr explains, "We had planned to see Terry Farrell in the flashbacks but she refused to let us use any of her clips. The way I see it is this: Her manager was informed that we were thinking of using Terry in a scene in the final episode. It would have probably been three hours of work... maybe four. The price they quoted us was too high for the budget. After all, this was a show where we had to cut out hundreds of thousands of dollars from the original draft. Her manager was informed that we weren't going to be able to use Terry. And on top of it, the scene we had been thinking of for her was really not that germane to the plot. I think Terry's feelings were hurt. When it came to the issue of the clips, they again felt that they would prefer that we went a different way without using the character of Jadzia Dax. So we did. I wasn't happy about it. I'm still not happy about it. But it is a reminder that even Star Trek is just part of the great showbiz sludge." [12](X) [13] As a result, this is the only season finale not to feature Jadzia.

Terry Farrell didn't get "mistreated by Rick Berman" and it's not "so sad" that she left. She wanted the same pay to appear in half the episodes and used it as leverage to leave because she knew she was going to be on Becker and thought it would make her a bigger star (it didn't).Fuck Terry and her fake ass tears.
>>222862054Two annoying things about DS9 that could still be fixed at any time:1. Putting Jadzia in Worf's memory montage rather than inexplicably having only clips of him and Ezri2. Giving Trials and Tribble-ations a TOS-style score rather than Berman's sonic wallpaper. The music absolutely kills the vibe of the bar fight in particular.
>>222862227>Giving Trials and Tribble-ations a TOS-style scoreGod yes, that bugs me so much, why put in all that effort to recreate the show without going all the way?
>>222862054Probably her trying to revise the narrative to not look bad for the simp nerd marks in the audience.
>>222862288>Michael ChabonIf somebody with a BA from the University of Pittsburgh is qualified to write for Star Trek, then that means I am also qualified to write for Star Trek. Okay. Where can I send in all my gay fanfic to use as a spec script?
>>222862288This is why.
>>222862357would
>>222862361And I'm all here for it.

>>222862288You just know that the fat black woman was inserting herself as Raffi whenever she did drugs and ranted about so-sigh-eh-tee
>>222862227Agreed. Plus3. Add a TOS style credits sequence at the end of Trials, as was originally intended.4. Change the title of the show to Star Trek: Terok Nor in the the first 6 episodes of season six.
>>222862434Bajoran women make my line go up
>>222862434toy sales? licensing income? it's tough to measure monetary success of a specific show directly in this age.As for longevity, Roddenberry was in charge for five years of tv shows, Berman for 18 and Kurtzman for 9.Back to the original question of how much more "abuse" this franchise can "take". If it's about printing money, a LOT more.
>Got groomed as minor>Became a minor groomerWhat's her deal?
>>222862494the specific show doesn't matter anymore. as long as there is something called Star Trek on PeePlus it will sell subscriptions and make the shareholders happy
>>222862494All the toy sales are boomers buying Kirk and Picard figures. Star Trek isn’t Pokemon that can sell toys to both six year olds and 36 year olds.
>>222862591>Star Trek isn’t PokemonBut what if it was? What if Gul Dukat used a Krookodile to assist in his oppression of the people of Bajor while Kira fought back with one of the highly marketable starter pokemon?
>>222862618That would be so f*cking awesome I'd cum
>>222862494kurtzman was about burning money to prop up peeplus
>>222862618Kira would have a Mega Sceptile ready to slit your throat with its arm blades.
>>222862591Do you want Star Trek to be more focused on selling action figures and other toys? Looks like Glub Shitto territory to me. But very possible we'll get to the milking age of Trek next, Ellison seems the type to look for toy sale opportunities.
>>222862655Voyager was about burning money to prop up UPN, that doesn't say much and happens a lot.
Is /trek/'s viability in question?
>>222862672They need to focus on selling lifesize seven of nine figures, but of course they don't ACTUALLY want to make money.

>>222863499i would have liked an extra 2 minutes to see their reception but theres really nothing left in the story except to pardon the maquis but do we really need to see that to know it happened? i think people get stuck on the orginal premise of it taking 70 years to get back. it only took 7. really not that big of a deal.
>>222863520Jesus Christ you're 24 and on here? Live a little.
>>222863555It was written like it was some chore they just had to be done with.DS9 has a bit of a sketchy final in some ways, but they at least took some time to give a goodbye. Like the people who made it are actually sad it was over. Voyager was like, "ugh finally thats over with"

Is picard humilliation ritual the series or it gets better? Maybe I should watch Strange Rape Worlds
>>222865232SNW tricks you. It has a really good first episode with great characterization and some decent quotes from Pike, then goes straight to hell.
>>222865232Season 3 is slightly better, but absolutely not worth torturing yourself watching 1 and 2.S3 isn't even good, its just that 1 and 2 are unreal levels of offensively bad
