Best horror I've seen in a long time was TriangleThe Thing and In the Mouth of Madness. Both amazing but not quite horrors.

Just watched Hellraiser today; pretty good movie. Now I'm wondering whether or not I should watch the sequels too.
>>222868921Hellraiser 2 and 3 are awesome imo. 2 is beloved, 3 is more divisive.
>>222868921Hellraiser 2 is decent, and the most recent one is up there with the first imo.
>>222868942>and 3>>222868983>the most recent one is up there with the first imo.I reverse these opinions
KELLY
This is a very good-looking movie, especially the night scenes but... why are some of the kills entirely CGI?And I do not mean just fake-looking blood, the entire scene, characters included, is computer-generated and looks like a PS2 cutscene, so weird
>>222868419If you liked Triangle I'd check out Coherence
>>222868419>The Thing and In the Mouth of Madness. Both amazing but not quite horrors.I don't see why they wouldn't be considered horror movies

>>222872411Sorority House 1 was just ok, not lots of nudity and the girls weren't nearly as hot as in 2. Sorority House 3 is actually Hard To Die. Which was good. But I prefer 2 to that as well.
>>222873570I liked Sorority House 1, and the plot. It was directed by a woman and you can tell she was like, "If I'm shooting a nude scene, they're gonna be dressing up and having fun!!"
>>222868200That's the most disturbing image I've ever seen. Worse than any other try hard modern horror thing

>The Apparition, starring Ashley Greene, Sebastian Stan, and Tom Felton>The film was universally panned by both film critics and audiences, with chief complaints being the complete lack of scares, poor script, borrowing from other better horror films, and for spoiling the ending in the theatrical trailer. The film was also a box office bomb, and was cited by critics as one of the worst films of 2012.>This movie came out the same year as Smiley

Saw The Exorcist last night on the big screen, hadn't seen it in years and gained a new appreciation for how it's not shot like a normal horror film and how effective that makes it.
DLing Phase IV and Piranha 3DD again since I can't find my old files and want to watch them again this Fall.
>>222877755Never heard of Phase IV, looks good though
i watched that korean "zombie" movie Colony recently. what a waste. all of the characters are frustratingly stupid, the plot is convoluted, and not a single one of the obligatory korean melodrama moments is earned. it had a lot of good ideas in there buried under the shit. shame.
>>222877956>Phase IVNot him. It's from the 70s. We had to watch it in school. Don't remember if it was because of the ants or because of environmentalism.
>>222877956It's ok. One of those 70s creature films like Kingdom of the Spiders. I wanna double feature it with It Came From The Desert.

speaking of, does somene know if they made changes to blair witch in newer versions (dvd, blue ray etc)? i will always remember my first time watching it and the tent scene where they hear children at night was very subtle with the baby crying and stuff and you really had to listen carefully to even hear anything which makes it even more effective. when i watch it online today there is no subtlety, it's way too loud and in your face that there are just a bunch of children running and jumping around the tent and singing or some shit which is also way too out of left field and fantastical for what the movie is going and feels like something out of blair witch 2did they add different sounds or increase the volume or something over the years? wouldn't shock me

I watched "Flatliners" (1990). Beautifully filmed, even though the camera wasn't steady. (Maybe they couldn't afford a tripod or a dolly.) Young stars all in their prime. But overall it was meh and it wasn't horror. Five medical students decide to die (or flatline) intentionally to see if there's something after death. According to the film there is, and it follows them back into their life when they're resuscitated. It's their sins from their earlier lives, and they have to atone or be destroyed by them.

>>222874846I just got a nice relaxed body buzz, got in a really good mood where I thought everything was brilliant, like that part in Dead Things where Alan is in the attic telling Terry and Paul about how the last caretaker hung himself in that room, and Terry half-jokingly says “Do you have a large insurance policy on this company?” to which Alan responds “No, I’m bumping you all off as my contribution to good theater.”I thought that line was so funny for some reason. I also saw luminous shapes when I closed my eyes that kind of reminded me of the AT Field from Evangelion.

>>222879108Bob Clark was a very diverse director that covered so many types & genres.
Watched 3 movies, 2 were horror. I know nobody will read this:>Episode 50What an absolute piece of shit, but somehow I made it all the way through, so it gets a 3.5/10. This fucker even has scenes that could be straight out of a soap-drama. I've seen a bunch of FF investigation movies, and this does nothing new or even remotely average. The saving grace is the acting is so atrocious at times that it makes you laugh. So, at least there's some joy to be had.>Pinocchio UnstrungThis is easily the best of the PD horror movies. Mind you, that bar is so low a quadriplegic could get it over it in their wheelchair. The non-main characters have bad acting, but they're mostly there just to be killed. The kills were actually good with the gore and I especially enjoyed the Final Destination style one that I'll probably make a webm of. Richard Brake is great in every scene and is fantastic in the 3rd act. Love the Freddy Kruger reference by Englund's "talking cricket". Ties into the TCU with Christopher Robin being a doctor at the hospital and of course the WtP:B&H reference.

>>222874054This ended up being pretty good. Takes a little while to really kick in, but then it's a ride. Very tense and some impressive acting by the young leads. I didn't realize it was by the guy who did Martyrs, but it makes sense with how brutal it is.Also always happy to see a movie piss off the Letterboxd community, in this case mostly for the tranny villain whom the main character refers to bluntly as a man

I don't know if this is a contrarian opinion to have but I was pretty disappointed with REC 4. I know the later REC films are less liked compared to the first two since they basically dropped the found footage aspect in favor of being more conventional zombie films with how they're shot, but at least part 3 really went for something different while still keeping the religious aspects behind the infection in tact. Not to mention that the idea of a zombie outbreak taking place at a colorful setting like a wedding where lots of people are family or are bound to know each other is way more interesting than just being trapped on a boat at sea.REC 4 was also longer with not as much interesting stuff going on visually, its a bummer even though they brought back the actress to play Angela for the finale. Maybe some aspects like the ending are better explained in the official book, but "REC: El Libro Official" seems to be long out of print and not worth the cost its going for.
