Can we have a bear thread? I just finished the show last night and want to know what I think of it.
>>222871934AHHHHHHHH IT'S RAINING OUTSIDE
>>222871934>show about back of house restaurant operations>nobody does cokeTrash.
>>222872031there were coke references
guess no one on tv liked this shit lol
I want a burger but hold the pickles and no bread and no lettuce.
come on there has to be, at least, some bearheads here on tv
great first season, show started dying in S2 once it became an endless fine dining wank fest and never recovered
>>222871934>niggers on the posterjeez aren't advertisements meant to make you want to watch things?
>>222871934I didnt even realise it had a final season months ago, so how did it end? Im guessing the restaurant didnt close and they lived happily ever after I suppose or it did close and they lived happily ever after anyway. The show really had this forced "wholesome" thing to it, is strange to really word it
>>222872917carm quits, eventually they learn they earned 2 stars or whatever, carm apparently now wants to work as an architect, everyone lives happily ever after. Except carm who is miserable and never reconciled with pussy.
>>222872953>the mentally struggling white male main character gets a shitty ending while everyone else gets what they wantI know the show went to shit after the 2 first seasons but wow it's worse than I expected
>>222873007well, tbf he wasn't miserable. He just wants to quit because cooking never made him happy, so he does. But the show doesn't make any effort to recognize the work he put through the seasons to earn the 2 stars (instead of the 1 he wanted to push forward). It's a hecking bittersweet ending, a bit reddit tho.
At least everything worked out for our boy in the end.
>>222873088Did he got together with the cute new girl from the other restaurant?
>>222873149Yeah, by the end he turned his life around.
>>222873149Yeah it ends with him flying to Japan next to her to do some culinary convention and she holds his hand to help him deal with his anxiety from never having flown before Cousin gets far and away the best ending in the whole show and not coincidentally ended up being the most developed character
>Richie turned his life around at 45Dogshit show
>>222873171>>222873192>>222873218Damn he really won
>>222872289I loved the first two and a half seasons of this show. I thought Season 3's ending was stupid, but could kind of see how it might develop from there properly into a "fight to keep the dream alive" situation where Carmy and Sydney properly learn to communicate. Instead season 4 happened and derailed the plot and pace entirely and then season 5 had to come in like a last minute writers workshop to fix all the stupid fucking mistakes to try and salvage what they could for the finale. I genuinely feel betrayed by this show and ever since the finale I still have this itch in the back of my brain that I'm waiting for a new season... like season 5 happened and I just refuse to believe it. I don't know who was more responsible for fucking this show over, the creator or Hulu for putting too much pressure on it, but I will never forgive them.
>>222873248Did they have plans for something different? Because Season 5 felt more like a fever dream if anything after season 4. I mean, S5 happens over the course of what? 1 day of work. The entire set of episodes from 1 to 7 happens in a "single day" of the show. The ending is just a little bit later.\It was so strange.
>>222873448Yeah. I think if you look for interviews or news articles around the time that Season 4 was announced, Chris Storer straight up admits that he always planned a 3 season show that would have had a pretty definitive ending as opposed to what we got. I think he had to open the narrative to fit at least two more seasons because Hulu threw the fucking bag at him to extend it. The Bear was one of the first organic hits that Hulu ever had on its hands, first critical darling, probably first show they produced that genuinely brought people to the streamer. Basically their own "Stranger Things" or "Orange is the New Black". So it makes sense they wanted the ability to wring a few more years of publicity for it and in theory it gave the actors more time to sign on to movies by leveraging their fame. Considering how stupid season 4 and 5 are, I think you can build a case either way you'd like to. Either Chris Storer is actually kind of a hack and got lucky that season 1 and 2 were so strong and would likely always shit the bed even if he ended it at season 3. Or Hulu killed the golden goose by forcing him to adjust his storylines and as a result completely ruined Storer's ability to tell an effective story. I'm more inclined to believe its Storer's fault because I still can't believe how season 5 is like one day and three of the episodes are just about the leaking roof. I think Storer figured out that a few things really endeared him to the critics and just kept relying on those same tricks like a monkey. (long one shot episode with chaotic music, long semi-improvised arguments, dad rock soundtracks, Carmy "relearning to love cooking" over and over)
>he ordered a glass of water?>With a slice of lemon???Cousin, why are you fucking with me?
>>222873623Nta but for me the show changed in tone, the show started as a clear psychological drama show but that changed as the network just wanted to stretch the show as much as they could
>>222873743Yeah, the tone of the show changed for the worse all over. We go from the first season where the point is dealing with insurmountable grief to realizing that life goes on and could be optimistic. Season 2 is Carmy getting a cutiepie gf and realizing he needs to more seriously deal with his trauma from his family while he prepares the old staff to be professionals. Season 3 would probably have been Carmy winning a star and gracefully handing the restaurant over to Syd as he went off to lead a new life with cutie pie. Instead the show needed unnatural drama so Carmy "realistically" breaks up with her from in a freezer after relapsing into a huge narcissist and then Syd seriously considers leaving as a dumb cliffhanger. And then nothing changes that new status quo for the entirety of season 4 except suddenly Joel McHale shows up to tell Carmy that he doesn't care about his trauma because trauma is essential to greatness. Then we just unclench and season 5 is shit directly into the toilet and nothing really matters for any of the characters. I don't know if Chris Storer was writing from a real place of trauma, but it just felt like he didn't know how to fix Carmy beyond saying "Bro just needs to leave the kitchen! That's where all the bad vibes are!"
>>222873623>>222873862Jesus Christ, you made me realize how everything past season 2 was fucking shit lol.
>>222872031>show about back of house restaurant operations>all black and whiteSurely not going for realism
>>222871934Lmao gay ass bitch has black "people" in his head
>>222874063lol I've spent way too much time thinking about this show ever since the first season. Truly one of those legendary fumbles of a tv show.If you look at the whole story from the top down, Carmy turns his brother's broke sandwich shop into a 2 star Michelin award fine dining establishment along with a potential million dollar valued ghost kitchen sandwich franchise, learns to conquer a lifetime of family and work abuse while also fixing all his coworkers, before leaving for New York to become an architect... all in the space of two years. At no point did it occur to the fucking writers to just start jumping like 3 years ahead and just giving us new looks at the restaurant or the characters or their improving skills etc...
The show never addressed how Carm's brother hid tons of money inside perfectly sealed cans of tomatoes
>>222874234>If you look at the whole story from the top down, Carmy turns his brother's broke sandwich shop into a 2 star Michelin award fine dining establishment along with a potential million dollar valued ghost kitchen sandwich franchiseThis pissed me off so much about S5. There's never a single "Thank you" or any sort of recognition towards Carm. Zero. In fact he even congratulates Syd, instead, as if she had earned them alone. One part of this season stood out the most. How his hot ass sister says: "No one told you to stay"Bitch, you should be asking him to stay. That's the fucking goose with the golden eggs right there.
So they're together at the end right? There's no way they aren't fucking at least
>>222871934i stopped watching after they accidentally put the children to sleep and joked about it. fucking demonic trash pile of satan's excrements also known as kikes
>>222874420They're italians, anon (way worse in some sense)
>>222874398They never have any sort of chemistry, imho
>>222871934Imagine doing the poster for this show and putting her as the featured character. Imagine then watching this show based on that.
I worked in a high end kitchen when the first 2 seasons were airing and I had to hear every day about the worst cooks we had right their lives were just like the bear. It's the dumbest show I've ever seen and I had to check out completely avec Joel McHale is berating carmy and said the words, "you shouldn't be alive."It was so corny and annoying I had to look away from my TV and immediately back out of the app.
>>222876008Typos in here but you get what I'm saying. This show is like if a burn out list who has only worked at a diner described Anthony Bourdain to someone who has never cooked, then that last person wrote a show about it
>>222876063Was there coke anon? were there cool pensive guys with tattoos? Were there screaming breaks for cooks to go out the back and scream just like in The Bear?
>>222872031Did you watch the show at all?
S5 takes place over a single day, and Ebra's story gets chopped off at the knees because they just didn't want to have to deal with Albert suddenly disappearing.
>>222876088No
>>222876335Who was Albert? I dont remember this guy at all.
this show is absolutely terrible. No slow burn plot, no subtle hints at anything. Literally designed to be consumed by mouth breathing wagie retards so they can gossip about it onlinemight as well watch love island
>>222876540>No slow burn plotI am not sure if you even watched it anon. The entire thing was slow burned to hell. So much that we had 5 seasons of nothing.
>>222873233i don't know, i felt like him attending his ex's wedding felt like a capitulation but i might be projecting"do it because your daughter needs to see you've moved on from it" felt like a wrong angle to push him from. he's always gonna be a romantic, i feel like his daughter should've instead maybe made to understand that's OK too and he's always going to be a little hung up over iti don't like the ex, she's super flighty and says weird shit she can't explain like why she told their daughter that her dad is alone
>>222876594well yea i think he's pointing out that it failed to meet even the vaguest definition of plot
I watched till Season 3 the show became too self indulgent
>>222876335it being all in a single day is such a colossally stupid mistake. You can't do character development over a few hours, AND ALSO have a plot heavy ticking time bomb. If you want to show characters acting like morons or sugar fucking her husband that's fine, but don't also pretend like OH WE'RE ON THE CLOCK HERE JUST ONE MORE TURN when they apparently don't give a fuck, they're just standing around having a quiet moment. Black guy is running around as a comic relief looking for a spoon thief? WHY DONT YOU HELP OUT. Actually why is he there? They hired him as a daytime employee for the beef business. And then he's rehearsing his speech for carmie like 5 times.. but in the course of 4 hours? WTF is he doing?Oh let's drive to a lady's house, she tells us to fuck off, because of drama that was years ago i guess ok that's that scene. It's filler like that when each episode is so fucking short that's just baffling. Up to the end Sydney is doing her "oh gosh uhm that's uhhh that's like uhh can you? like uhhh well uh" bullshit. And everyone just looks at the camera and says "syd is so good at her job :)". Anyone with a brain would see that she'd be a fucking awful boss. They should've fucking failed and fell flat on their face but then realized that life is more than this stupid job, and they grow from their failure.
>>222877003>Black guy is running around as a comic relief looking for a spoon thief? WHY DONT YOU HELP OUT. Actually why is he there?I know right. Like what was he even doing there? Oh I remember now, he was in charge of prepping the old beef style things and selling them through the window. But since it was raining they were not going to prep any sandwiches that day. So they reduced him to le funny black dude.
>>222876836I've noticed a lot of other younger guys talk about how they hate Gillian Jacobs (my sweetheart darling poopsie) and I've realized it's because they only know her from The Bear and that clip from Girls where her character had an abortion
