The message of the film is a powerful one. The real Ray Kroc thought it was so important that he took out full page ads in newspapers to spread the message. Not many CEOs today are willing to share their actual beliefs so plainly like that.

I can't source it, but I think the McDonald's bros were actually quite happy with their deal with Ray. They got to retire as millionaires, and their name stayed attached to one of the most successful drive ins in the country. It was movie magic that painted them as steadfast believers in quality and against mass franchising, mostly for drama reasons.
