It's a story about the rise and fall of a family that gets completely wiped out at the end. It's pretty good show based on a pretty good book and remains faithful to the book and isn't your typical netflix slop.
If you can handle reading subtitles you should check it out.

The whole book is about cycles each generation of the family cycling a mistake the others did over 100 years. The book deals with incest, war, religious fanaticism, conservative values vs liberal values, globalism when american company arrives and it starts off well but becomes slavery by the end. The train that provides hope, visitors and tourists become their downfall by the end.

Is it the book with the glass city? Cause I used to date a Latina art hoe who'd read me that book.

it's not pure magic like harry potter. It's more magical realism, metaphors and symbolism. Like the most magical it gets is one of the characters just straight up ascends to heaven without dying because she was so beautiful and pure.
>>
>>222879335
I still don't quite understand magical realism if I'm being honest, I don't get how it differs from magic proper.
>>
>>222879338
regular magic/fantasy=magic is extraordinary and special and wonderful
magical realism=magic is just a fundamental aspect of the world that ranges from mundane to annoying
>>
>>222879419
So is it acknowledged as being unusual and beyond science or is it more like a MacGuffin to just have things happen and nobody in that world pays attention to how it happens?

it's symbolism one guy has the "magic" to make things reproduce by fucking his farm, cattle, animals all fuck and reproduce making his farm rich. But he never has a child with his true love and has 3 kids with the wife he hates. He's not producing shit out of thin air, it's the symoblism that the land is thriving and fertile

>story about the rise and fall of a family

What level of T. should you have to enjoy it, though?
>>
>>222879419
magic realism sounds the same as 'hard science fiction'

It's a warning to never marry into a big mexican family they're crazy. Your kids start fucking each other and their kid start fucking their aunt.
>>
>>222879491
no, hard sci fi means there are clearly established rules to what the science is not that it is realistic
in fantasy "hard" magic is magic with clearly established rules while in magical realism there are little to no rules
>>
>Incest
Hot. I'll watch it.

AI slop that cant get even the basic idea of parents and children in family three right
>>
>>222878291
i remember liking it years ago when i watched it. they seem to be heavily promoting it again suddenly, for whatever reason
>>

The second part came out this month and the finale was a few days ago.
>>
>>222879578
the finale is out. I really haven't seen Netflix promoting it because it's not Netflix slop they usually produce. I don't think it drew numbers but it's masterpiece. The author's kids told Netflix they can't mondernize it they have to remain faithful to the author
even with MC marrying a 12 year old. which happened here>>222878777
The abundance of incest and sex in the show.
Maybe because it's produced by Foreign films division of Netflix but they didn't add the usual american DEI slop
>>
>>222879637
Being foreign language probably has a lot to do with it, people hate reading subs and overdubbing not syncing with lips also pisses normies off.
