I’ve actually done construction work too. Almost died in an elevator and froze a toe. The feeling disappeared for a few years. Still, i would much rather go back than to spend 8 hours a day bored in an office chair

Growing up I always saw my dad do manual labor. He had his own business and on the weekends he forced me to work in it. This made me hate it (because he failed to teach me things, or explain things. It was just "hold x here and be quiet") I told myself "working in IT will be my dream". Constantly connected to the internet, never a dull moment.
Boy, was I right. In my teens I did factory work and it bored me to death, 3 diferent factory jobs. 2 weeks felt like 20 years.
Now I work from home 4-5 days a week and just send emails every now and then.

Work is a joke.

If you just let the world dictate your life for you instead of dictating your own life, sure. The problem with every character in this movie is none of them every truly stopped and asked themselves what they wanted out of their life besides aimless pleasure seeking.

NEETs = Does nothing all day. Refuses to acknowledge the curse of Adam. Gets a comfortable life that Kings could never have. Retarded on file possibly or relies on others to get money or resources to live. Might not be their fault due to mental illness or physical illness. Claims that it’s the same as mad dreamer when it’s not. Can’t acknowledge the evil world and can’t provide for the next generation. Not social.

Wagie = Does work all day. Acknowledges the curse but doesn’t understand it. Gets a slave life that Kings laugh at. Not retarded on file but sure is in real life. Needs others to get resources instead of being self dependent and won’t acknowledge this and can’t due to the structure of the world. Needed for survival for self and family. Claims to be the same as a NEET when it’s not. Can acknowledge the evil in the world but refuses to do anything and can’t potentially. Can provide for the next generation and social.

The Mad Dreamer = Gets Dream / Wants / Goals / Desires. Acknowledges the Curse of Adam. Gets a life that he wants. Might be retarded or not be either way it doesn’t matter they don’t let the world decide. Possibly their fault or not freewill. Claims to be like the wagie when it’s not. Can provide for the next generations forever. Somewhat social.

Nta but this is subhuman mentality. Construction won't even help you in the future when your joints are broken and you have no 401k or health insurance. I get the movie made more sense back in the 90s where there was actual far more opportunity before the 2008 crash and when construction was still mostly white people. But some contractor will now just sub contract to another sub contractor with no license who just picks up a bunch of illegal nicaraguans.

Im 32 and been a NEET for a year now.
Before that I slept 5 hours a night for 5 years working in a factory.
Destroyed my brain and soul. Gave me erectile dysfunction. I felt numb to reality after 6 months. Started drinking coffee. Saved $80,000 then got laid off and didn't bother getting another job cause I still couldn't afford even a tiny home.
Now I am NEET and fucked multiple women since getting laid off.
I'm in college with some of my savings to keep my parents off my back.
I really don't know what to do now. I went from 15 an hour in 2019 to 25 bucks an hour when I got laid off. And yet I'm still a loser. I realized I need to make 40 bucks an hour to have any kind of future not being a rentoid. So until I can do tht, no point in going back.
And that's not gonna happen when CompTIA is dead, Lrn2Code is dead, etc etc
I thought about learning mobile car detailing but that just looks like a terrible idea.

I don't think you understand why working in an office is especially soul sucking. You're essentially playing pretend with a group of people. Pretending your work matters and needs to be done when you know it's absolute bullshit and if you and everyone around you stopped doing it, it would have absolutely zero impact on the world. Sure being a ditch digger is backbreaking, hard labor, and I've done manual labor for a few years so I know how exhausting it can be, but your work has a concrete beginning, middle, and end. If your job is to install a water heater, you know how it starts and when it ends.
Working in an office is absolutely spiritually soul sucking. Your work is, by in large, absolute bullshit that someone else made up to keep everyone occupied to look like we're all doing things that matter, when in reality none of this work matters and if it does, it could be done by fewer people more efficiently. But everyone has to justify their paycheck so we keep making up more and more work to make it look like everyone is a valuable member of a "team" when you could vanish from the universe and nothing would change.
I don't know if I'd support universal basic income because I simply don't believe it would work, but to everyone that says "we can't just pay people to do nothing", I'd say "We already do". Large swathes of the "work"force are people doing bullshit makework jobs, deflating the wages of people that do things that matter. A good 65% of people are doing jobs that could not or should not exist. And making very good money doing it.

>>
>>222883933
The concept of work being so nebulous and bullshit is very new as well. And the fact that everyone knows we're just essentially forced to play pretend forever is just mentally crushing.
I think that's one reason why so many corporations and employers have been so opposed to people working from home. The bullshit make-work can be done on a computer anywhere you are, as long as you have internet connection, but when you're not physically present, how can they ensure you're not playing pretend? A lot of these jobs don't require you to continuously work 8 hours straight, fuck I've had jobs where I work from home and maybe have 30 minutes of work a day. But that's exactly why they need to make sure everyone is present, because the work doesn't matter. Pretending the work matters is what matters. We all have to keep up the thin veneer that we are useful and our work justifies our wages, and a large part of that is everyone keeping up the charade. The charade is easier to keep up when everyone is wearing slacks in a high-rise building, not wearing pajamas at home, even if the "work" is being done all the same.

you need to reframe this as finding a job you can turn your brain off to so you can think about shit you actually care about. I knew even in college i wanted a federal job for the good benefits and shit ton of pto you rack up. got an office job off the rip on a military base that the civilians on factory floor dream about because "no one does any real work up there" and theyre right. been here 7 years now making 6 figs as the lead and have no interest in anything beyond that because the next step up is actually supervisor roles and theres no fucking way im playing daycare for adults. i just do my tasks check in with my people that theyre getting their shit that doesnt really matter done then spend the rest of it listening to audiobooks and planning my next ttrpg session i run for my friends

This is pretty much the reality of working for someone. Unless you're running the company it's actually stupid to invest your entire self into your work. Work is just a big game and you have to learn how it's "played" or you're gonna have a bad time. It's sad but true.

The whole "bawww my comfy middle class office job is hell" concept is easy to mock if youre outside of it. But if you actually have worked in a place like this you relize what hell can actually be. Working in a cold, boring, fruitless profession in a drab grey office filled with ugly fluorescent lights who coworkers who arent allowed to behave like real people or form any sort of authentic connection due to HR codes of conduct is a brain numbing thing to go through.

This thread shows exactly what is wrong with modern people. We all got psy-opped by reality tv, movies, video games ect. into this ME ME ME mindset where only thing that matters is that you're most special and at the highest social position and that you're feeling most good all of the time.

I'm a medical doctor and kekked how nobody has even mentioned "meaningful work" in this thread (like they never do). I admit i had no idea about it myself because modern people simply don't even imagine the concept, i became a doctor because i thought it was the best way i could get reliable money and bitches with my talents and interests. But then i actually started working as one and heard the first genuine "thank you" i had probably ever heard from my patient and i realised how fucking self-centered whole western culture has become. The self-centered hedonistic windmill sucks but people can't even come up with the idea that something else might exist.
