It should be more like Stargate SG-1 or something. The home base should have character, Alpha-5 and Zordon should have more support and they should have add in pro-active missions. They should defend the base more. The fear of losing it and their connection to Zordon should be the source of a constant low hum anxiety, often complicating the plot and causing the team to split into 2 squads.

They should have a non-zero relationship with the govt, they should probably receive some funding, and all politics/real worldism can be funneled into one Military Guy character who is always trying to push them into certain actions or put his foot down to veto Zordon's decisions.

I always imagined it as a failsafe. Like, they were so powerful, they needed a means of easy destruction in case they got out of line.
