>>222953564NOT trans, btw.
>>222953564forgot to mention im a redditor btw if that matters
>>222953531I'm anticipating this episode. It looks very wholesome.
>>222953657It is.Honestly, I can't think of a single bad Tuvok episode. They range from pretty good to great.
If Harry really loved Tal, he would of left Voyager to be with her.
>>222953704Nothing good can happen to Harry Kim.
>>222953671>>222953657Tuvok+Neelix buddy episodes are what make VOY comfy. Neelix/Kes? Neelix on his own? Not comfy. Two of them together is the peak. VOY overall had a pretty good handle on the pair ups, everyone but Akoocheemoya had really great chemistry when they split off.

Hello /trek/, hope you guys are having a good one.I was posting about AI upscales here a couple weeks ago and recently I've been experimenting with different topaz models and especially experimenting with workflows.I'm curious about how much you guys would be interested in a quality maximalist version of DS9. These are 960p frame-level AI upscales that make the most out of the detail available in the source without giving it any unnatural AI look (not like pic related). Keep in mind I said quality maximalist, meaning storage space isn't really a factor here. Each episode would be ~2.5GB, not big as a typical HD scene encode but definitely large relative to the level of detail you get.Anyways check it out. This is s06e06 Sacrifice of Angels, one of my favorites.https://slow.pics/c/2YgS6cJ2
>>222955063This is awful, just makes everyone look haggard.
>>222955097you make no sense
>>222955117Look at the image you posted, for fuck's sake. Your shitty AI filter makes Vash look like she's 75 years old.
>>222955129I said not like the pic I posted retard. You just can't read. That was an example of super generative upscaling that makes things look off.
>>222955063looks pretty shit, idk what its doing but its very wrong probably in your source.
>>222955147the source is a crf 0 lossless encode from the DVD
>>222955140Do I really need to explain to you why posting an image that wasn't an example of your work but was instead an example of shitty work was a horrible fucking idea?
>>222955176You just can't read.
>>222955183You started ranting technobabble so I skimmed. But anyway, the other guy who replied after me clearly made the same mistake. You have autism which I suppose isn't very surprising given what you're presenting (poorly).Having said that, the images in your gallery looked pretty solid.
>>222955166it really looks like its reading motion blur from something interframey, idk if you're going to get anything workable from it
>>222955129Yeah this is the problem with AI up-scaling for live action. The AI tries to enhance all the "detail" in the frame, but in this case all it does is enhance all the wrinkles, creases, and blemishes in a person's face.It ups the contrast too, which makes a person's skin look slightly pale.
>>222955063I read your post so I understand the picture you posted is not from your encodes. From the example of the very first image in the link, I don't like the way it handles the shadows on Odo's hands. It makes it look like the thick black outlines of a mid-2000s flash cartoon.I implore you to abandon a quest as fruitless as this. AI upscaling will never look good because it is built upon the foundation of providing touch-ups that the original production never intended. The only way to upscale anything is the natural process of scanning the film to a higher resolution output, since celluloid is infinitely scalable.>>222955166I don't know what crf is, but it being from a DVD implies that the absolute highest resolution for the video file is 480p. You cannot make anything better from that because you are forcing the machine to hallucinate pixels that are not there. It will always look bad, because the human brain fills in details for lower quality images better than any machine can.
>>222955214>it really looks like its reading motion blurAre you talking about the source or the upscale?
>>222955063>https://slow.pics/c/2YgS6cJ2Ah yes, the Bashir penis reveal, a classic scene.
>>222955274>the Bashir penis revealFor those wondering.
>>222955297You can still see the eye-droop that every single AI upscale in existence cannot help but do on that Cardassian chick's eyes. In fact, all the ridges on her face have that smoothed over look. I didn't click every photo because it takes too damn long for them to load (for some reason) and I got impatient when the first one and the one of Dukat picking up the baseball both felt unsatisfactory (in that one, the material of his "leather" shirtsleeves looks too rubbery when it's been upscaled).
>>222955337I'm sure if we evaporate every water molecule on Earth, we'll be able to generate at least a single full HD DS9 episode that looks decent.
>>222955214need the laserdisc rip
>>222955515Yeah, just upload the laserdisc files instead of upscaling them.
>>222955525dvds are already precompressed which fucks up your clean source
>>222955063>topazyou fucking retard>that imageYOU FUCKING RETARD
whos dick do i have to suck to get ezri in 4k
>>222955559I can't read but I'll call other people retarded
>>222955063I'm going to be honest with you. It looks horrible. In fact it's one of the worst I've seen. There are already better upscales of DS9 floating around out there. Your upscale is far too sharp. And then it's blurred on top of that. The worst thing you can do. It's horrifying.
>>222955586LOOK AT THIS TRASH I HAD TO PUKE IN MY TOILET
>>222955596God, even the letters look bad. Why the hell is the C in Commander darker than the rest of the word?
>>222955589>There are already better upscales of DS9 floating around out there.which ones? Every one I've seen interprets way more shitty looking detail in places that don't matter, has plastic looking textures, and fake looking eyes.
>>222955611thats how it is in the source
>>222955638It's more blatant in the upscale then, because the lines are so crisp it's impossible for the mind to glaze over it. The ridges are weird too, like the D in Dorn.
>>222955596Comparison of an upscale I have
>>222955665He crushed the blacks, oversharpened it and then smeared it with blurring. It's really every single rookie mistake you can make all at once.
>>222955698"Rookie" implies there's any sort of expertise to AI upscaling, when it's all trash.
>>222955688that looks like hot garbage. the station is fucking pink with no texture or detail whatsoever
>>222955714Uh no that has nothing to do with AI, those things are related to basic image editing techniques used in any sort of digital medium like video editing. God you're such a little twerp talking mean shit when you're so fucking dumb. You ought to get punched in the face.
>>222955727It's not pink, calibrate your monitor. I'm not sure how much detail was lost in that upscale since I didn't make it but at worst it's fairly damn close to the original shot. Don't post again.
>>222955063If it's not sourced from the laserdiscs I don't want to see it.https://vimeo.com/1123601150
>>222955769you're actually retarded man, please just don't weigh in on any of this
>>222955740I'll own up to that, but I insist that if he had known anything about manual editing then he wouldn't have made such pedestrian errors. I stand by my assertion over his inherent lack of expertise, and inability to cultivate it any further so long as he impedes himself with this hobbling block.>>222955769It is very slightly magenta, as can be seen in the underside of the station. It's not the proper shade of gray of the actual broadcast version. Yet more proof that even if you avoid crushing blacks, AI can't do dick.
>>222955789That's god tier unfortunately only Japan has laserdisc releases of ds9 up until s5 and there is none for s6 or 7 anyway
>>222953851Reminder that Janeway murdered Tuvix
>>222955875and she was right
>>222955566Mine *unzips dick*
>>222955875Why not just use the transporter to combine the entire crew into a single entity?
>>222953564Me too
>>222954362who knows ?
>>222955789Interesting project. Seems like the best option we may have for HD DS9 right now. I will probably keep experimenting with the DVDs though. I can play with the sharpening and motion blur parameters in QTGMC to see if I can address some of the complaints.

>>222957508That must be the original timeline where Sisko didn't manipulate the events of the Bell Riots.
>>222957508No, Harry develops that new safe warp drive and teams up with Carey and Miles at the academy.
>>222957508Seska is an Obsidian Order operative, Dukat is the son of a traitor and a traitor himself who both the Cardassian military and Obsidian order tried to have deposed, removed and terminated countless times. Noone, least of all Seska, would try to save such a man from himself, especially since he sold the entirety of Cardassia to be used a meat shields by the Dominion for a statue.
>Q creditsheh
i finished DS9, i really liked it, the ending has basically every major faction on the road to recovery.cardassia after getting a small taste of their own medicine under the dominion seems like the new cardassia will not be as antagonistic as beforeklingon empire was a dying empire but now has a new chancellor who seems to be the right person to get the empire back on trackbajor's pah wraith problem is over, beginning their golden age.the only thing that gets me is, what the fuck happened to the ferengi. quark is apparently the last true ferengi, with everyone else seeming to just go along with the grand nagus' sweeping progressive reforms to introduce taxes, universal health care, equal rights for women. i get that there were some reforms, allowing women to get profit, but it felt like a slow and long march to change, with small concessions at a time, but suddenly the entire culture did a complete 180 on the second to last episode and came right in line with federation values somehow. did the prophets de-evolve the entire race behind the scenes like they did to the nagus that one time or some shit.
>>222958087How did the "entire culture" do a 180? Are Misoginy and a sense of communal responsibility the defining factors of Ferengi society to you? Nigger please. And yes, Star Trek tells stories of enlightened ideals being victorious in the end. Always has.
>>222958160the ferengi lost their greed. they're willing to do things for the greater good instead of purely personal profit.
>>222958087the ferengi had a pretty good arc, they basically turned rom's retardation into a real class struggle story. they were tipping into revolution commie shit on the small scale for a long time so making them even slightly less greedy was kind of saving the species.
>>222958173How is ensuring more healthy competition losing greed? The Nagus collects more taxes to be avoided or misused, Females now compete with their own family for maximum exploitation and any hostile takeover leaves the victim capable of recuperating their losses for additional exploitation with home advantage down the line.
>>222958219>The Nagus collects more taxes to be avoided or misused, the nagus didn't introduce new taxes, he introduced taxes as a new concept. the ferengi didn't pay taxes before, they paid bribes.
>>222958267To the authority, yes. Call it what you want, but having a set of rules in place to ensure financing the basic health and needs of your population creates opportunity for profit both within the system and by bending the rules. Same goes for females joining the workforce and being allowed to wear clothes.
>>222958267Taxes are the ultimate shakedown
>>222955626vertag
>>222958320it just feels too sudden. it felt like the ferengi were already on this path, but it should have taken more time rather than coming out of the blue all at once. when quark is being told by brunt all the new changes in the ferengi alliance, i am just as shocked as he is.it's like they ran out of time and had to really rush out all the stuff they wanted to do in a single info dump when they really needed another ferengi focused episode or two about these reforms.i also feel like it ruined some of the development quark had, like the episode where he reluctantly accepted moogie wanting to wear clothes and have the right to profit by helping her in order to keep the current nagus in power, quark is the quintessential ferengi, so these changes being put in place really should have had an episode where at the end quark has to come around to accepting it even while not fully agreeing with it.we kind of got that with him saying rom is the perfect nagus for this new ferenginar. but i don't think rom would make a good nagus, i thought his arc concluded with him giving up the rat race that he never had the lobes for and finding satisfaction in doing what he excels at which was engineering.
>>222958434Did you miss the engoodening that happened with Zek and Ishka? Also Rom is an idiot, that's the point, the reforms his predecessor began and he's continuing are rash and informed by emotions, making them even more abusable and creating opportunity for profit. Neither Rom nor his Huzz will ever realize the amount of delicious corruption they introduced to Ferengi society nor have the power to do anything about it while still getting credit for raising the average quality of life of Ferengi everywhere.
chud has a mental breakdown when he finds his worldview challenged by STAR TREK. you love to see it lmao.
>>222958486i would worry rom would get assassinated or replaced by someone like brunt looking for any slight slip up, the ferengi seemed way more cut throat earlier in the seasons, even the nagus would risk getting thrown off the chamber of commerce if made an unpopular change that he couldn't explain how it allows everyone to profit.>>222958495what do you mean? i am pro universal healthcare and all that. i just don't see the ferengi as being able to change like that in the span of one or two years without a better explanation than just saying quark hasn't been keeping up with news for awhile. we went a long way from the earlier season ferengi to 40% of ferengi no longer believing you have to pursue profit in order to pay your way into their version of heaven.
>>222958585>i would worry rom would get assassinated or replaced by someone like bruntWhy worry? That's just good business, if Brunt can pull it off go for it I say.

>ordered to be removed from the bridge>refuses>remains on bridgepicard is a bitch
>>222957313Aw crap, they will have Kirk meet Sybok in SNW, arent they.
the ferengi developed technology comparable to the federation and secured a signifigant amount of territory without women having rights and without a centralized currency and without taxation and without any sort of public welfare programs. the systematic destruction of ferengi society conflicts with the core concepts of star trek and is the primary reason that ds9 sucks.
>>222958751>implying it makes any difference outside this 45 episode parody

>>222957737If you think about it, it's the Bajorans' fault things escalated the way they did. Had they shown more gratitude to the man who slashed quotas and abolished child labor, the long chain of events that ended with the deaths of billions of Cardassians would never have been set in motion.
>>222958087>the only thing that gets me is, what the fuck happened to the ferengi. They displayed too many jewish stereotypes and thus became "problematic" for TV executives. First they started softening them up from Space Slaver Rapists they were in TNG by turning them into a bunch of Seinfeld comedy characters over the course of DS9. And then towards the end they just go full blown Lefty Progressive with all of the political reforms. They had their balls cut off and It completely ruined them as a species.
>>222959348As cringe as it is I do appreciate that even Starfleet Academy maintains that the Klingon Empire never truly went away over the following 800 years. Like, it's not as if Alexander became Chancellor after Martok and instantly made them all gay.

Even Enterprise is worth discussing.Like what if Reed and Hayes had just had rough gay sex.

>>222960779You can't put Garret Wang's delivery of dialogue (particularly technobabble) side-by-side with Terry Farrell's and say Wang is the one who is the shit actor.
I very calmly explain that I don't recognize anything post-2009 as legitimate Star Trek. And I don't have any reason to. It does not share any producers, writers, designs, or values in common with Star Trek 1966-2005. But They screech at me; "THAT'S NOT FOR YOU TO DECIDE, IT'S THE IP HOLDER!!!"I find that... amusing. Sad, almost.
>>222960806Not just that she's a pretty weak actor, the writers had absolutely not handle on the character at all. Her being the chief science officer completely disappears in favor of being Defiant pilot and Klingon LARPer, and there's at no point at all where Jadzia has any character, she's completely defined by her previous hosts
>>222960533It's the inevitable result of having the progressive political aspect of Trek still be a priority. It's not the 90s anymore. Today that type of politics is antagonistic towards men meaning you need the audience to be overwhelmingly female to make it work commercially. This is what Kurtzman & co have been desperately trying to pull of for the past decade, twisting Star Trek to a comical degree in the process.
>>222960887Jadzia was originally supposed to act old and wise beyond her years, which is seen in the first handful of eps, and it sucked. So they retooled her in S2 to be "one of the gals" who loves to party and drink and gossip with Kira.

>>222960853>But They screech at me; "THAT'S NOT FOR YOU TO DECIDE, IT'S THE IP HOLDER!!!"Yes. This is how property works. It's not yours to decide. Your parents didn't teach you to respect boundaries so now it's up to other adults .
>>222961070>Workers of the world, unite!>Rom spent so much time with Starfleet folks, he embraced their comunist life style.
Rom is a character I never actually warmed up to. i tolerate him being there but I just never enjoy him. and I don't like the way he talks.
>>222960853You do realize, that if your beloved >producers, writers, designs, or values in common with Star Trek 1966-2005tried to make Star Trek now, it would be woke too?
>>222961125I think I can kinda respect SNW if that's what it wants to be rather than acting like it's just a regular Star Trek show.
>>222960853youre pretty much correct but there is one exception
222961041Boo hoo.
>>222961106Yes, but this one is honestly like the black and white world episode where the gimmick isn't overbearing it's just thereIt's really "Trelane traps the crew in an illusion where they have to face problems that are weighing on their minds"The most gimmicky thing is after the credits where it doesn't mean anything and is skippable
>>222961177
Notice how they're still mad at me because I stick to my guns and refuse to acknowledge their version of Star Trek.
>>222961106Thank Joss Whedon and Dan Harmon for ruining TV for over 20 years.
>>222961168i don't mind Star Trek being woke, it's supposed to be. but it has to be Star Trek.
>>222961207Don't forget Eric Kripke. The soap opera episode pulls from Supernatural.
>>222961171Dumbest shit I've ever read
People think they are these great TV writers and then they don't even try and fude with Chevy Chase fuck you writers at least put in the work.
>>222961070I feel like Little Green Men is when the writers realized they didn't have to write serious technobabble scenes anymore because Berman and Piller were barely paying attention to the show. And when they *do* have serious technobabble it's usually in Julian's ballpark like The Quickening or anything involving Changeling biology. That plus Worf joining the crew made Jadzia obsolete as a main character.
>>222961145Stay mad.
>>222961209We're on something like woke 4.0 at the moment and this version now considers your preferences to be problematic and exclusionary. That's why you're no longer getting what you consider to be Star Trek. Woke has cast you out.
>>222961157>The only reason they haven't killed me yet is that I'm part of their victory celebration.>7:00, Dukat makes a speech>8:30, cake and raktajino.>8:45, execute the Ferengi.
>>222961145>Yes. This is how property worksProperty is fluid. Or are you saying that because black people were property once, that they should all go back to being property?
>>222961356sounds like you have no idea what my "preferences" are
>>222960704>our "collective" opinionsnot your personal army, newfag. kys
>>222961526are you retarded? don't answer that because i already know but it's a fucking aggregate you idiot, no one is petitioning you for anything. instead, it's a compilation of what is arbitrary posted.Dumb fuck, why is it always you being such a faggot?
KINO is back on the menu.
>>222961546>kino>more subversive "dark trek" where the heckin' utopia... ain't all it's cracked up to be... but our team of rag-tag heroes will beat the odds to save it from itself!
>>222961546the 4th pine movie was in various states of development for almost 10 years. this is whats called a trial balloon to see if anyone is interested in financing such a retarded idea. it will be abandoned before the WB deal is done.
>>222961619>trial balloonThis is what they're doing with that stupid fucking "President Archer" series that someone, Sussman I think, is shopping around. You'll see a newly papered clickbait article about "how badly fans want it" every couple of months and you can just feel the desperation from them to get people behind the idea.
>>222961506Did you like the professionalism and meritocracy aspect of Trek? Maybe you liked the spaceship porn? How about the inter-power quadrant politics? The pretty alien girls? Those are all "too straight male" and thus exclusionary.
>>222961546It's very funny to do an interview talking about how your big new idea for a Star Trek story is something SNW is doing next week
>>222961336I'm not mad. I just got some shaky box from wherever I get my things.
>>222961491I won't comment to that outside of /b/.
>>222961809 I was correct
>Why would the Dominion leave your runabout orbiting the camp unattended?THANK YOU
>>222962245I wonder how their sales numbers are
>>222962147This felt like an acknowledgment by the writers that, yeah, we fucked that up
>>222961663I mean I'll take it over whatever they're probably cooking up themselves
>>222962309I also thought it was pretty ridiculous that they could make a transmitter out of a life support system, like, what even is a life support system really? A heater, an air scrubber, some pipes and a power supply? How the hell do you make a transmitter out of that
>>222962325The idea that a West Wing style show with Scott Bakula playing the Martin Sheen role is going to be the thing that "brings Star Trek back" is the fantasy of an insane person.Bakula does not have the acting chops for that kind of show. It would be fucking terrible and it's not like ENT and Archer set the world on fire in the first place. You're gonna pursue a memberberries strategy with your least popular Berman Trek show? Just seems odd.
all that "President Archer" show talk made me think is that Scott Bakula must be poor and really desperate for work because who the fuck besides him would actually want that show?
>>222962427I can just imagine Michael Sussman going through his entire fucking list of contacts>So hey, Andrew, what do you think about me pitching a Garak show to P+? No? Well, alright...>Hey, John! How about we get a Q vehicle going with P+? Hello? John? Mr. de Lancie? Hello???>hours later you see Sussman and his list, a bunch of names with a line through them. Archer is down at the very bottom, the only thing written below Archer Vehicle is "Neelix Vehicle???">you see T'Pol's name with a line through it right above Archer>Hey, uh... Scott. It's Mike. Mike Sussman. I was wondering if you'd like to be a part of a--You're in? Really? You'll do it?!
>>222962427He must have made quite some bank with NCIS. Network TV pays well.
Would you watch a Trek show where the crew is people from /trek/?
>>222962558people or personas? How would the people be competent characters?
>>222962363thats the really cool technical shit of spying, you can make a transmitter out of anything even today. people (in universities) are exfiltrating data through blinking LEDs and fan speed shifting and other nonsense
>>222962558I will score the show>t. sloperator
>>222962586An entire crew of starfleet officers who have had their personalities, but not their expertise, overwritten by /trek/ posters. It'd be like if you got all the knowledge a CMO would need to perform his duties, and then got bodyswapped into an Andorian or something.

paramount should stop making movies and tv for awhile and instead start building a beIievable universe on tiktok. half a dozen actors of mix demos acting like social media influencers in the star trek future. >old german engineer tinkering in his shed>sexy young caitian showing off the latest fashions>a twink obsessed with 21st century technology, his antiques just so happen to be the latest offerings from apple>lunatic innamoon weapons expert>a terraformer who shows cool hardscaping>a guy who travels around the galaxy and takes video of his beagle peeing on aliens.

>watching the episode where they discover that warp drives damage subspace over time>oh this episode is an allegory for climate change>at the end of the episode character beats the message over your head going as far as directly mentioning that the warp rift is causing climate change btwoh, thanks writers, wouldn't want the viewers at home to get confused about the episode's message after all.
>>222963674This episode sucks.I hate how afterwards they have to occasionally throw in a line like>We've been authorized to exceed the climate change warp speed limits because emergency!Like why would you shackle your entire universe to that rule? Lucky Ds9 and Voy just ignored that shit iirc
>>222963674>they forget about it and everything's fineAccurate!
>>222963466it would be announced as a revival of the Quibi short-form concept. lets them play around with things until they find something/someone that catches on and builds demand for a proper series or movie. >>222963475you get it. its cheap. its fun. its star trek.
>>222963700The way Voyager's nacelles move was post-hoc decided to have something to do with the warp regulations, so it's implied they figured some way around it (but really they just wanted a moving nacelle gimmick)
Ridddles is the best episode of star trek across all series all movies and everything, love you respect you bro and Neelix is the one true king yo. You are correct never let anyone tell you different, Riddles draws a tear every time, love you brother

They're playing Trek movies in the theater every day this memorial weekend (only up to IV lol) along with original series episodes. Might be worth the experience.
>>222964092
I fukken love Neelix bros what can I say
>>222963961I like it, but best ever?Even if you just ranked it against other hammy trek episodes I'd probably not put it in the top 3
>>222958389I checked it out. He doesn't squeeze nearly the level of detail out of the DVDs that I did. It just looks like a regular upscale. There should be visible lines on O'Brians's forehead. But the edges look more natural. I'm going to weaken the sharpening parameters I used for encoding the DVD source I fed into topaz. There was probably just too much sharpening already present so the AI made it a double whammy.I watched my episode on a 4K TV and it looks noticeably better than the source. I have a feeling this vertag one would basically look like the same picture stretched out.
>>222963700the writers wanted to do a climate change episode and then realized they wrote themselves into a corner because it's hard to boldy go anywhere when you put a low speed limit on warp speed.feels a bit silly how that girl matyred herself because she didn't want to wait a little bit longer for the federation researchers to go over her data given how they managed to solve the problem almost as quickly as they realized it was one due to the writers wanting to handwave it away.
>>222963961Riddles? More like Middles because it's a mid 'sode.
>>222963783I think this was fan theory that never became real. It's never said in the show and the movement when going to warp was just meant for the cool factor and a compromise since they kept going back and forth between traditional nacelles and underslung catamaran style
>>222964224It's never stated on screen but Rick Sternbach said it was the in universe reason.
>>222963961You're right, Riddles is the greatest episode of Star Trek ever put to screen.Forget City on the Edge of Forever, forget the Balance of Terror forget The Inner Light and Measure of a Man, forget The Pale Moonlight and Darmok. This is the one, this is the greatest example of Star Trek ever sent out to the world. You are right, Riddles is number 1, all others are pretenders.Love and respect to Neelix and Tuvok.
>>222963961>Neelix is the one true king yoAgreed without reservation
>>222963961Riddles fucking sucks.
>>222964306kek i love that somebody made this
>>222964326I like to smile
>>222964167youre not "squeezing out" detail, youre inventing it where it doesn't exist and that's why your shit looks ugly and fucked up. all I want out of an upscale is to be able to watch it on my modern TV and not be able to count the pixels. I dont want extra slop an AI decided to shart all over the frame. the problem with you jeets is that you have no sense of aesthetics in the first place so you have no way of knowing that what youre making with AI looks like shit at a glance.
Riddleschads run this threadBack off Nonlixers and Novoks. You are NOT welcome in /trek/.
>>222964378Sorry but that fact you cited what is esstentially just a stretched picture of the DVD source as an AI upscale proves you don't really know what the aim is or have an eye for this thing in general.
