The Operative was kino in every scene. And he actually gave some teeth to the Alliance. In the show they were just occasional nuisances on par with a hick village planning to burn a mentally ill girl for being a witch. But in Serenity that tear their way through Mal and the crew's life like its tissue paper.
Oh, the movie also gave us a very interesting origin story for the Reavers, who until that point were basically just Buffy Vampires in space.
All in all an incredible improvement. If the series had been on that level from the start it might not have been caneclled.

everyone talks about the writing of the show but I think the aesthetics are underappreciated. the warm colors, the handheld camera, the set dressing, but what I like most of all is the cgi. it was at the perfect era where it was still a little stylized but also good enough to be unobtrusive. and of course it didn't hurt that basically every single actor, main or side, was super hot. its such a cozy show and im sort of glad it was cancelled because its the perfect little encapsulated thing and never had the chance to disappoint.
