How is this so high rated? I mean it's fine but I don't get how can people say is a 10/10

I think it was the group reaction to it being prematurely cancelled. The betterer its reputation, the worserer of a mistake it was to cancel it. TL;DR for spite.

Why did you post lol
>>
>>223012777
There wasn't a lot of scifi shows at the time and the ones that existed were all technically military scifi (Star Trek may be "noblebright" but its still technically a military ship or station every show, Stargate obviously, Battlestar Galactica, etc).

Firefly was the only one that was just quirk chunguses at a time that no one was tired of that yet.

It also had a lot of potential, the world was very interesting, with all its factions and political history. would have loved to see it unfold over multiple seasons. you could have found out more about how much influence the corporation had over the core worlds, about the blue hands dudes, the program that created river, the reavers, maybe have another war

>>
>>223012777
The show itself isn't a 10/10.
The movie is though. That shit was Whedon's best work. Gave the story actual stakes and consequences, gave it an actual villain instead of the random dudes in latex gloves, upped the budget...

The Operative was kino in every scene. And he actually gave some teeth to the Alliance. In the show they were just occasional nuisances on par with a hick village planning to burn a mentally ill girl for being a witch. But in Serenity that tear their way through Mal and the crew's life like its tissue paper.
Oh, the movie also gave us a very interesting origin story for the Reavers, who until that point were basically just Buffy Vampires in space.
All in all an incredible improvement. If the series had been on that level from the start it might not have been caneclled.

Same reason people say that E33 game is a 10/10.
It took an anime, ripped it off, and took out the anime.
All of a sudden, all the north american normies and women and poofters who claim anime gives them the ick, go bananas over it.
>>
>>223013841
>There wasn't a lot of scifi shows at the time
"TNG ripoff" was an entire genre you larping zoomer
>>
>>223014132
Anime is even more cringe than firefly
>>
>>223014132
>>223014323
anime has a lot of very good and creative elements, if you dump a bit of the cringe that only appeals to japanese children and spics and seamonkeys, of course you'll come up with a wonderful result
>>
Well when you only make like 10 episodes you have less of a chance of making a shitty one
>>
>>223012777
firefly was good but people rate it so highly cause it had potential to be great but never got to see it
its like if star trek tng was cancelled in season 1, firefly never got to have its season 3-5 peak
that said all we are really left with is just a sorta decent show
>>
>>223014464
>>223014512
We never had writers running out of ideas, actors making demands about their character and all the other stuff that contributed to shitty episodes in longer running series
>>
>>223012777
It’s 10/10 mainly for how comfy it is, only a handful of shows beat it in that capacity, other than that I’d rate it 7.5/10
>>
Why is everyone cursing in Chinese, but we never see a single Asian character in the show? Like, if China had taken over as it's implied, you'd see a lot more influence, but Whedon just slapped a few Chinese words into the dialogue and called it a day.
>>
>>223014715
>Why is everyone cursing in Chinese, but we never see a single Asian character in the show?
I believe it's similar to Mass Effect. The idea is that on Earth, the North Americans/Europeans are the poor/desperate people seeking a better life elsewhere, which is why they're all over the place in outer space, while the Chinese and Indians are more prominent on Earth itself.
>>
>>223012777
TAKE MY LOVE TAKE MY LAND TAKE ME WHERE I CANNOT STAND
>>
>>223014600
But all of those things never seemed to hurt successful long-running series. The other anon brought up Star Trek TNG, a show that has plenty of examples of actors making demands about their characters:
>Patrick Stewart constantly demanding that Picard be more of an action hero chad character, resulting in ridiculous episodes where he's cosplaying as a noir detective in the holodeck and those horrible TNG movies where he's cosplaying John McClane
>Lavar Burton getting annoyed that Geordi is the only guy on the Enterprise who never gets laid (fair complaint) and accusing the writers of being racist (probably not a fair complaint)
>Jonathan Frakes asking that Soren in "The Outcast" (the trans episode) be played by a male actor instead of a female actor because he wanted to make a statement
>Marina Sirtis demanding that Troi be allowed to wear an actual military uniform instead of a stupid jumpsuit (again, fair, she is technically a Lt Commander)
>>
>>223012777
It got canned before it had a chance to get bad. It was a well done Western story in a sci-fi setting, which was novel at the time, the actors/characters had unprecedented chemistry, Whedon's writing was at the top of his game, and the sci-fi was "realistic and gritty" at a time when most tv spaceships were sterile, powered by blue laser magic, and crewed by card-carrying heroes.

>>223013923
Morena is the hottest, but Jewel has that "girl next door" charm. Summer's character has the bpd pussy.

>>223014512
Firefly was a hell of a lot better than TNG S1. But then, so is watching paint dry.

>>223014782
It's canon in the show that Earth was Wall-e levels of fucked so all of humanity fucked off to "The Verse"

Old sci fi reference to how back in the day Japan was going to dominate the future, hence why so many properties like Blade Runner have jap stuff everywhere.
That and its a wild west in space show. The chinese came over to the US in droves to build the railways. It just sort of...fits.

>>223014782

everyone talks about the writing of the show but I think the aesthetics are underappreciated. the warm colors, the handheld camera, the set dressing, but what I like most of all is the cgi. it was at the perfect era where it was still a little stylized but also good enough to be unobtrusive. and of course it didn't hurt that basically every single actor, main or side, was super hot. its such a cozy show and im sort of glad it was cancelled because its the perfect little encapsulated thing and never had the chance to disappoint.

They wont do it but the sequel series should 100% be about him.
Hes in the same position Mal was at the start of the series. They swapped places now hes the wandering bum on the run who has lost hope. It should be about him cobbling a crew of misfits like Alliance types that did bad shit or whatnot.

I had an early "Tivo" called ReplayTV, and I was recording new episodes. Usually on playback, it was the local basketball game instead. I doubt that was just in my local area. It wasn't like now where you can just log in and see the new ep on demand. If you didn't see it, it didn't exist.

They did try, but the glowies were...kind of fucking lame. They were just empty suits and gloves and a weird sound thing that was their version of the heart attack gun. They also only killed a couple of bystanders.

The Operative on the other hand killed Book and butchered every single one of Mal's contacts. Hell he almost killed Mal twice.

It's clearly written as a passion project by writers who really cared and thought out the setting and characters

She was going to become the newest in the line of Slayer archetypes that Whedon loves so much. You can see it in the movie that she would have ended up mary sue as fuck. Super strong combat monster (replacing Jayne) and ultra skilled pilot (replacing Wash)
In the comics IIRC she even replaces Mal as captain.
