I quite enjoyed it. The character motives were a joke and as soon as you think about the plot it barely makes sense, but it's rescued by sheer movie magic. The sets and lighting were excellent. There's something magical about this giant statue head chilling around it puts modern movies to shame, they just don't care as much. Also the ending theme went hard:

This had the biggest woman moment in it I've ever seen in a movie.
These two women are stranded on a couple of fucking planks sticking out the side of a mountain 4000 feet up for days, they manage to find a radio and call for help, then they discover the guy who came and saved their lives was also smuggling drugs. So they get indignant and dump his drugs off a cliff. Predictably, he shoves one of them off said cliff as well.
>>

/hor/bros, I need your help. I'm writing a little set of rules to help me select the movies for my all-month-long October marathon. I want to have a good mix of everything. So far I have the usual stuff: at least 1 movie from every decade from the 1920s onwards, 3 Italian movies, 3 Universal classics, at least 1 Stephen King adaption, etc.

What would some other good rules be for a stone-cold classic spooky season?

Wrong title. It should be /gore/ general as these movies are nothing more than gore/snuff film and medical mutilation blood splatter films disguised as "horror".

True horror is very few. Movies like exorcist, 13 ghosts, the cell etc. It has to be mental and spiritual.

Tl dr ; today's lesson for /tv/ anons
>Gore is NOT Horror
>>
>>223076943

The goofy William Castle one or the gorey remake?

I never knew an original existed. The gorey remake with the sexy slut in it yes but it has a spiritual element to it which the spells written on the glass can keep the spirits inside and they only kill you if you wear glasses etc. Thats perfect horror. The gore is accessory.

In most movies now including obsession they just focus on gore.

Reminder, mental illness is not horror and gore is not horror.

I just finished it after that anon recommended it. I think many people will like it considering the success of the Conjuring franchise and its spin offs. However, the Conjuring had the touch of James Wan that really brings movies from excellent to absolute cinema.
>>
>>223078887
Yeah. James Wan has his own artistic touch that truly elevates a movie. 32 Masalana St was good, like really good, good enough to keep making me think of the Conjuring 2, all it was missing was that stylishnss or elevation that makes a movie good from very good to excellent.

The worst one is 100% the first one, the second is kino. The whole sword from her father saving her life at the end of the movie was peak plus the shootout scene on the playground is one of the best moments of the franchise. Plus the kill that Clown did of that woman on the bed where he fucking skinned her is one of the most brutal kills, even more brutal than the girl he split in half in the first movie.

T1 is a much more entertaining movie with pretty good pacing and knows what it's doing. T2 is a bloated mess of bad writing and bad acting that just exposes the director's lack of talent, as he tried to make a bigger film that fell completely flat.

The second one did have really bad acting, especially the Mom, but the first one has arguably worse writing, at least in terms of scene to scene transitions. The movie just didn’t flow very well. It felt like clown was just killing for the fuck of it while it felt more sensical in the second one. 3 is better than both though

To add on the tire slashing scene was so stupid because how are you gonna come from a restaurant with a crazy looking clown, see your tires slashed, and then go into an abandoned building? No thinking person would do something like that. It would’ve been better if they called the cops and clown murdered the cops or even killed them while they were waiting for her sister or something
>>
>>223080591
The way the first one was made didn't require great writing, whereas the second movie tried to go so story and character heavy that it made it impossible to ignore how bad the whole thing was. 3 suffers from that to a lesser extent as well, but it has more focus on the gore and aesthetics to make up for it.
>>
>>223080535
yeah, it sucked. the villain looks like a Slipknot member again and it's got two good scare sequences and then the rest of it is anime rules magical fantasy. Also for the traumaslop lovers it's all about a woman getting over her mother's suicide.

That’s fair, the movie was just an introduction to the series so the writing wasn’t as important I suppose. It still has its flaws though. I’m just glad 3 turned out really good, it feels that they took the strengths from both of the first movies and capitalized on them.

>the movie was just an introduction to the series so the writing wasn’t as important I suppose.
I mean moreso that the movie, as a sub-90 minute slasher flick, knew what it was going for and executed that adequately. 2 screwed up by trying to create this whole lore and deep plot when the guy who made it just didn't have the chops or crew for that. He's good at special effects and that's about it. Anything else, he's tripping over his own feet.

I disagree on the basis that such an effort isn't always appropriate, and that type of movie didn't call for it. To add an extra hour of runtime just to pad the film out with middle school quality writing could only harm the film, and any decent director would understand that. I look forward to a tigher cut of the movie in the future that puts it around 90-95 minutes, which I think it would benefit a lot from.
