What could you realistically do in this situation?
>>223145439Get your surfboard and stay on top of the water, easy
just swim dude
>>223145439Surfs Up!
>>223145439stop the water with my mind
If you've ever done surfing or body boarding you know that you have to go under the wave.
Dive headfirst into the bottom of the wave and swim under it. I do it all the time at the beach. No big deal.
Close your windows and keep playing vidya
>>223145505>>223145507>people actually believe thisYoutube comments are also filled with retards like this.
>>223145439Getting hit with that much water moving that fast would be like getting crushed by concrete.
>>223145519What if it's Chinese concrete?
>>223145519Water is liquid, retard
put on a diving suit and get to the bottom of a pool. since you are already under water the wave won't affect you. you can jusr chill at the bottom until the water has moved on.
>>223145519You might also be interested to know falling from a great height into water is the same as falling into concrete.
learn to swim
>>223145519Just plank on top of a chair so you break the water resistance
>>223145517>admits he reads youtube comments>thinks anyone but himself is the retard in that dynamic
>>223145439Realistically? I'd keep fucking you fat mother, I'd have no time top deal with you lame thread on /tv/.

>>223145439Unleash my meridians and use the heavenly wave cresting footfalls of the century spanning sunfish qigong technique
>>223145519Even if not, you would horribly drown if you were out on the ocean or get hit and impaled by a bunch of shit if you were in the middle of the city

>>223145439Considering how much time I have left probably just pop a velo in my mouth hit one last blinker off the penjamin an prepare for the long sleep.
>>223145529uhm not necessarily my dude
i put on my robe and wizard hat :D
>>223145553Why can't you do this? Is it just too hard to time correctly?
You can literally just float as the wave passes by
>>223145629>Why can't you do this? The Demiurge forbade it
surfs up
Just surf the waves, my dude! Cowabunga!
>>223145629You can do this. Just try it.
Bend your knees, use your arms!
>>223145600YOU DARE?! Junior, you are courting death!
>>223145519only if you're staying still>put surfboard on top of car>drive car to almost match speed of the wave>get on surfboard>survive
wait a second, I don't think any of the suggestions ITT are actually realistic
Die like the thousand people on the nepal flash flood incident
>>223145683this one>>223145553works
>>223145683If you are a surf master you could do it. Just spin 1080 through the waves.

I sit down and talk to it.

>>223145629You would just push the chair faster downwards while your velocity remains the same.
>>223145439Me and my uni team mocked this exact scenario for our architecture degree as part of a funny. Long story short the only way out is up but the chance of survival was basically zero because majority of people would have no access to a helicopter and even if they did they wouldn't know how to fly one and even if they did there is no way to land safely once you are in one.
be laughing at the normoids who have somethign to lose
>>223145854You'd lose this (you)
>>223145820Hahaha and they told me I was a nerd for playing to much flight simulator, learning to fly aircraft even like that is priceless and probably useful. Sky King took off, did a motherfucking barrel roll and he only played flight sims before
>>223145529hydrogen bonds and surface tension exist lil bro
It's just water....
>>223145904this, just drink it

>>223145915Isn't salt water bad for you?

>>223145891Air is mostly hydrogen and we can move through it easily too. Are you ok, m8?
>>223145439catch a wave and you're sitting on top of the world
>>223145553The velocity and weight of your body would be like trying to kick a feather away at the last minute for some lift.Attempting to jump off of a feather will not slow down your velocity or change your mass. May as well try jumping off some air. >>223145629Your body has more weight to it than the chair, you would push it out of the way just before impact, and would not stop your own acceleration in any meaningful way. Even trying to jump up off a fairly solid table would be challenging after you're falling 32ft/s squared. The timing could be perfect, but you're not going to jump up and away without slamming down.
>>223145992>ft/slmao
>>223145629you'd need to kick the chair really fucking hard to cancel out your body's momentum
>>223145439Die, probably.
>>223145439Take a piss that will split the wave
>>223145439Surfboard makes sense because you could fall off and get fucked up but eli5 why this wouldn't work? Assume you would be above the rubble at all times

>>223146018*spin kicks you in the jaw*Hows that for a hard kick, nerd.
How many movies are there at this point showing New York getting fucked by giant waves
>>223145439Would the buildings actually get knocked over? I feel like if you were high enough and in a central location that was secured (like an elevator) you wouldn't get washed out.
>>223145439Jump in and drink it all, thus saving the city.
>>223146604You failed physics huh
>>223146604Maybe if the wave were 1/4 that size, there'd be a slight chance the building would stay standing, but even then it'd be unlikely.
>>223146649If the corner stones where large and heavy enough and the building was actually made of steel i feel like it would survive
>>223146106You're a big guy.
>>223146649>>223146672The wave itself is unrealistic. A breaking wave hundreds of feet tall simply doesn't form and hold that shape over open water near a coastline. Wave height is limited by water depth, and as a wave approaches shallower water it breaks well offshore rather than staying intact as a towering vertical wall all the way to the buildings. Real tsunamis don't look like ocean surfing waves at all. They behave more like an extremely fast, relentless flood: a wall of churning brown water and debris rising over minutes, not a curling green wave like this.Toppling buildings isn't really how it would go. Modern skyscrapers have deep foundations and steel or reinforced concrete frames designed to resist massive lateral loads (wind, seismic forces). Even a genuinely enormous tsunami is far more likely to flood, gut, and structurally damage the lower floors of a high rise than to knock the whole tower over like a domino. You saw this in the 2011 Tohoku tsunami in Japan: waves over 100 feet in some coastal areas obliterated wood framed houses, ports, and low rise structures, but concrete high rises mostly stayed standing, just flooded and stripped of their lower levels.>>223146604Is technically correct
>
>>223146714Did you see the recent footage from Nepal?
>>223146749Yes, it's unrealistic, but that's irrelevant. We're not talking about a realistic scenario, we're talking about the unrealistic giant tsunami in the OP image.>Toppling buildings isn't really how it would go. The underground foundations would, of course, stay intact, but what relevance would that have? Everyone in the building would be instantly deleted.
>>223146772There wasn't a single skyscraper in that footage.

>>223145820Mfs going to university to learn the best way out of doomsday scenario is escaping by air
>>223146828Okay anon, you win, the little buildings would stay standing with the force of multiple nukes hitting them. God damned retard.
quickly make a russian coom in the water so the serbs slurp up all the water
>>223146793It's not a tsunami, it's the splash from a comet striking the Atlantic.
>>223145439Die. The only chance of survival would be to get out to sea before the wave starts to form as it approaches the shore, though at that size you'd have to be really far out.
>>223146839-ACK
>>223146839Ok but this isn't comparable for 2 reasons. 1. It's nowhere close to the size or strength of a skyscraper or any other large building. It doesn't have the deep buried steel in concrete foundation most western buildings have. 2. This also takes place in a very narrow canyon. When a landslide or avalanche or rockfall hits a large body of water in a canyon it causes a wave to move a blistering speeds which does create more force projection due to inertia. It's basically taking 100 gallons of wateer and putting into a 10 gallon house all at once, that shit is going to spit out like 300 mph to start. A wave over an open ocean covering a massive distance and hitting a coast line like OP's image is never going to have that kind of velocity, especially as it starts hitting shallow water. The largest wave that could potentially hit a coast line is maybe 100 feet and it would almost instantly dissipate if it hit anything other than flat beach land. From there you're just dealing with basic flood surges, while dangerous, catastrophic even, are not going to knock buildings over. Remember there is video of people in Nepal downstream of the initial flooding who's buildings didn't collapse and they were able to climb high and record it.
>>223145439>this is what climateoids actually believe
>>223145519Water is soft tho
>>223146976The hypothetical wave in the OP is about 200m tall
>>223145439Shoot the water with my sig.
>>223147057Not in my city, our water is hard as hell. Just had to have some valve in my toilet replaced the other week
>>223146976What would happen if I'm already under water?
>>223145439In pic related, a comet breaks up and diverts its orbit slightly and slams earth. Most of them are going to impact in the pacific. On the day it is supposed to hit a bunch of surfers paddle out as far as they can with the plan that if they're going to die they want to go out riding the most monster wave ever. One by one the surfers wipe out until there's one one guy left, who's nose is bleeding and he's feeling light headed because he's at the crest of a mile-high tsunami. Its genuinely a pretty fun book. Niven and Pournelle books are basically the literary equivalent of a big dumb michael bay movie if they weren't dumb. Its a fun sci-fi story about the day after where they DON'T stop the asteroid from hitting. I'd also highly suggest Footfall, which is basically the same book, but with an alien invasion thrown in for good measure, and a fantastic HFY ending. Though my favorite part of the book is when the president hiding in colorado springs brings in the only experts they can think of, Science Fiction authors, and you get a whole segment where Not-Heinlein, Clarke, Asimov, and the author self inserts spitball ideas and pal-around with one of the baby-elephant aliens
>>223146604Buildings aren't really designed to handle that kind of sustained lateral stress. I'd also suggest looking up videos of Hydro-mining where they use nothing but the weight of water to dissolve a mountainside.
>>223146298jokes on you I had feces on my jaw and now they're on your shoe lol
