Just looked it up and apparently the survival rate of a U boat in World War 2 was only 1/4. Brutal.

My grandfather was on one of the U-boats. He said it was the most terrifying experience of his life. At one point, he defecated his pants and didn't even realize it until someone pointed out the huge mess under his feet. Another time he panicked and started screaming and a few people had to restrain him. I feel bad for him but none of us are allowed back at the museum now.
