SAC is atrocious.
It has jar jar binks robots in it.
Stop recommending that crap.
>>
>>223169056
Start with the 70s.
Miyazaki did some great stuff.
Future Boy Conan, The Lupin TV shows + Castle of Cagliostro, Sherlock Hound etc.
Also check out the space operas like Space Battleship Yamato.

Then move onto the 80s, make another thread when you're ready and i'll make some recommendations but it'll be a BIG thread because there's a lot to cover.

I don't like anime because most of it is adapted from unfinished light novels so you never will get an ending to the story.

I love LoGH, but if you think it's the ONLY good anime ever made, you just have a trash personality.

There's no other anime like LoGH, but to say nothing else is even GOOD, fuck you. You just made LoGH look bad, dipshit. It's actually my favorite anime but you just made it look like it's for fucking stuck-up snobs.

>Oh, I'm so unbelievably COOL that I think everything is SHIT, that's how cool I am...

Fuck you, loser.

As for memories, I actually agree with you there too. First segment is legendary, last two really let it down, last segment should have been scrapped altogether.

Actually if you didn't care for the first few episodes, you probably won't like it period.

There ARE a lot of anime that get really good later on but take a long time to get cooking. Gintama, One Piece, Bleach, etc.

Demon Slayer is one that if you don't like it right off the bat, you're probably not going to suddenly fall in love with it in later arcs. It's really not a "slow burn" like that.

But in general, when you're first getting started, you should just skip things that don't strike your fancy right away. Some of the things you skip during this phase, you might come back to them one day and they might go on to become one of your favorites. That's happened to me dozens of times, some of my all-time favorite shows were ones I passed on sometimes more than once.

But there's also a lot of the opposite, shows that start out really great and then by several episodes in, they just suck. If anything, that's more common. One good rule of thumb is that if a show has a main cast of four characters, it's not going to really get good until all four characters are introduced. Avatar the Last Airbender is like that. The first season is kinda good, good enough, but once a certain character gets introduced in the 2nd season, then it really takes off. Yu Yu Hakusho is another example where the show is only mediocre until the full cast is assembled and it can seem like a drag until you get there.

Basically the quality of shows fluctuates wildly, sometimes only the first episodes are good, sometimes only the last episodes are good, sometimes the middle is great and the beginning and end are disappointing.

More than anything, you need to watch as many shows as you can until you develop your own taste and then you'll actually KNOW how to judge anime for yourself without relying on other people's recommendations.

My favorite anime, you might think is dog crap, your might totally love a show that I think is dog crap. And that's okay. That's normal.

Anything directly inspired by Western fantasy will be a really easy and almost frictionless way to get into anime.

For some examples, Frieren, Mushoku Tensei, Goblin Slayer, Berserk, Record of Lodoss War, Dungeon Meshi, possibly some of the Fates.
And there are loads more smaller titles too.

Many of the more traditional, conservative, sensitive young men in the West use anime as a kind of alt-timeline for Western civilization because the Japanese adopted Western aesthetic sensibilities wholesale. With their society being more traditionally minded, they have retained said sensibilities far better than most quarters in the West, so you have this strange feeling of seeing a very foreign people capture a Western aesthetic and style better than any Western person can nowadays.

From there you can slowly get into the more culturally Japanese anime, especially anything set in the real world or in modern times.

>Gintama

This is a great example to learn from. Gintama I would honestly say sucks for at least the first 50 episodes and is only "kind of good" for another 30-40 episodes after that. And then it suddenly has one of the greatest arcs you'll ever see in any anime, but you can't skip to that part because the world and characters are so goofy that it won't make sense. The premise is flat-out hard to explain, and that's why it takes a long time to get good. From that point, the quality dips and rises, but it stays pretty good for it's duration, a lot of great episodes, and some that aren't so great, whole arcs that are awesome and some arcs that can be a slog to get through.

Gintama is also a parody anime for the most part, so you have to be pretty well-versed in many other popular anime to get a lot of the jokes. In fact, Gintama is an anime that rewards you the more of a weeb you are and punishes you the more ignorant you are.

It's a TERRIBLE anime for beginners, but once you're really advanced, it can easily become one of your favorites. In fact, you can use it as a benchmark to determine how much of an expert somebody is. If they love Gintama, chances are, they're a true master of the discipline. If they hate it, they're probably just a frustrated novice.

Anime is like a muscle, it takes a lot of time and effort to get strong, but it's wise to build your strength slowly and patiently. There's hundreds of good shows, and my top 100 and your top 100 are probably gonna be pretty different.

>>
Aim for the Ace, but ONLY the first series.
>>
>>223180310
Yeah, I've seen both series. Loved the first one, but the second one left me indifferent, despite being competently made and more technically advanced.
>>
>>223170779
honestly yeah I recall really wanting to like Stand Alone Complex but it is just really not that good.
The Major especially is an insufferable mary sue like constantly and I only remember it being decent when it's the Batou and Togusa buddy cop show, everything else just sucked.
Way too many fuck-boring scenes of just yapping about stupid in-universe shit that absolutely is not interesting or sequences of the Major effortlessly solving some situation with no tension or intrigue.

old school OVAs and the first movie where cyborgs were there mostly for cool visuals and action scenes understood this shit way better.
>>
>>223169056
Let me introduce you to an OAV called "Plastic Little", from there you might like to check out a two episode OAV called Eiken, then Burn Up W and Gun Buster. Those are the best 90s anime has to offer, ignore the standard recommendations like "Cowboy Bebop", Ghibli-slop, and "Death Note", at least at first, because these are "safe" and "neutured" anime for autists that are worried their family will disown them if they walk in on them tugging over gigantic bouncy cartoon boobs.

Also, if you really are new to this, you are advised to watch subtitled rather than dubbed, as dubbing of series in the west is usually pretty poor and done by the same 5 or so Yankee-doodle-dandy VAs that can't do any accents apart from their own guttural texan ones.

I hope so, I would rather have hundreds of shows I love than only 10.

I don't think there's anything cool about hating everything, it doesn't make me think that your taste is just so much better than mine.

Where I come from, being a "picky eater" is considered fucking obnoxious. I think it's even more obnoxious when it comes to anime.

You either haven't watched enough anime or else you watch things just to find a reason to hate it so you can try to impress other people with how hard to impress you are.

That doesn't impress me even 1%.

I bet the 10 shows you do like are fucking trash and I also bet you won't post your top 10, EVER, no matter what, because you love shitting on other people's favorites but you can't take having your own tastes criticized.

Here's my top 10, let's see you post yours, coward.

1. Legend of the Galactic Heroes
2. Every Ghibli film + Future Boy Conan
3. Akira
4. Rurouni Kenshin, ESPECIALLY Trust and Betrayal
5. Yu Yu Hakusho + Hunter X Hunter
6. Bleach minus the filler
7. Dragon Ball and DBZ
8. Berserk
9. Initial D
10. Cowboy Bebop

Not only is that in no particular order, but Jujutsu Kaisen should go in there somewhere, but it's not finished. Neither is Berserk. I also can't fucking WAIT for Kagurabachi. Anything on my list that was originally a manga, I pretty reliably exponentially prefer the manga.

Anybody who wants to shit on me can go ahead, I don't crave the respect of people who hate on everything to try and prove how cool they are. You know what else I love? Thunderbolt Fantasy. You know what else I love? Darling in the Franxx. Gintama. Fullmetal Alchemist. (Which version? BOTH, FOOL. AND the manga.)

And at least 80-90 others I can't think of or don't care to name. Like One Piece. Like Hajime No Ippo. Like Ninja Scroll. Like Captain Harlock. Fuck, I can't even narrow my top 10 list down to 10. I'm forgetting so many it's insane.

If you can't come up with 10 anime you love, you're a fucking turd.
>>
>>223180927
Bleach, JJK, Darling in the Franxx, base FMA and modern shonenshit suck.
>Where I come from, being a "picky eater" is considered fucking obnoxious. I think it's even more obnoxious when it comes to anime.
Where I come from, people with low or no standards are considered way worse
