Why did a magic unicorns have to use regular everyday weapons to kill his victims? He has the power to completely rewrite reality- he can teleport, he can fabricate objects that defy the laws of physics out of thin air, and he can shape shift… but for some reason he still needs knives and axes to kill children?

Buddy physically grabs them but all that other stuff in the lab is what turns TVs into portals and erases the victims from existence. That’s my theory anyway. We don’t know enough yet. You could be right but Buddy doesn’t exhibit any other omniscient abilities, from what we’ve seen he just kidnaps kids and kills them.

That name combined with the brains we see sitting in the lab hints strongly that it's a reference to the 19th century physicist Ludwig Boltzmann. He came up with this thought experiment theorizing that it's possible for a brain to randomly pop into existence from nothingness with entirely false memories of being a human and existing in the world as we know it right now. If that were the case it would be indistinguishable from our perceived notion of reality and we would never be able to tell the difference. I'm not sure how that all fits in with magic unicorns that kill children and erase their memories, but they spelled it exactly the same way he did and it's a pretty uncommon name

But that's where we run into continuity problems. Clint Howard actually really did play a cowboy on tv when he was child in real life... in 1962. Pic related is what he looked like back then. If we're meant to understand that he was a previous actor on an older incarnation of Buddy's show, it either couldn't have happened in 1999, or he's entirely too old to have ever been on it. And then there's the problem of the other two unicorns. We eventually see Benny- the yellow unicorn covered in dirt living down in the puppet workshop at the bottom of the well the kids go down at the end of the movie, but the other unicorn, Bobby, is nowhere to be found. This seems to imply that on a previous incarnation of the show it had been centered around three unicorns, but likely Buddy didn't like not being the star, so he imprisoned Benny, and it's unclear what happened to Bobby. Regardless, that raises the question- was this supposed to have been a WESTERN "Howdy Doody"-style kid's show... hosted by three magical unicorns? in the year 1999? Basically none of that fits together or makes sense. Western tv shows for kids went out of fashion decades before that (pretty much in the early 1960s when the real life Clint Howard was playing on one on tv), and Clint is way too old to have been on one anyway, and why would there be unicorns on a cowboy show in the first place?

It’s well known the government funded western & war themed tv programs, toys & games geared toward kids during the Cold War to mentally prepare them for combat.
