So all the murder and bloodshed was just in his head?
>>
>>223182552
he only killed the homeless guy
>>
>>223182552
yeah.
it's metafiction where Bateman is analogous to a writer fantasizing about violence because his life is boring.
the point is to make the audience compare their own motives for reading the story to Bateman's.

No.
>>
>>223182552
No. The others simply didn't care and only see what they want to see.

>Literally shoots the door man to his work
>Runs around the building
>door man is completely fine upon his return
It's obviously all a delusion
>>
>>223182552
it was all just a mirage
>>
>>223182635
huh? I missed that

He definitely killed Paul Allen
>>
>>223182552
They were the friends we met along the way
>>
>>223183358
That’s simply not possible. I had dinner with Paul Allen in London two weeks ago.

Eyes up, phone down zoomie.

The biological body corresponding to Paul Allen did die - briefly - but the memetic existence of Allen is necessary in the cultural landscape which overcodes the rest of reality. In other words, the map is more real than the terrain. Paul Allens can biologically perish and be reborn through a variety of cultural metamorphoses, which the film astutely demonstrates: someone might fabricate a dinner they had with Paul Allen, someone might strategically claim to be Paul Allen for expedient purposes, a woman might claim to be Paul Allen's girlfriend, and so on. But the essential existence of Paul Allen as a constituent of the cultural fabric can never be expunged because the predrawn map is now impervious to changes in the terrain and the observer instead fits the terrain to the cartography. Bateman has the nightmarish revelation of realizing he exists within an ontology where the most influential entities are cultural memes and amalgams that pattern the rest of reality while he serves as their physical instantiation. Yet despite his apparent free will, he lacks all ability to exert himself onto his surroundings. Any action he takes is ultimately negated and absorbed back into the cultural matrix which is the only thing that's really real.
The insanity he describes in his ending monologue is often likened to the wearing of a mask. But a mask-wearer can nevertheless control the movements of the mask and has the freedom to doff and don it at their leisure. Bateman's ontological enslavement then is like a mask that wears that wearer, can never be removed, and attracts so much attention from the onlookers that the pitiful spasms of its wearer are rendered useless.

It doesnt matter if it is or doesn’t because his life is fake and shielded from both danger and his own misdeeds, no matter how hard he tries to thrash and kill internally or externally, and that’s real Hell

True. When you reach the end of a biologic script, just run it back from the beginning. Aint nobody knows the difference

Different building different doorman. Meant to look similar to emphasize the disposability of low level workers and materials.
