Terminators have a self-contained power source and don't require active comms either since they have pre-programmed instructions. From an engineering standpoint you could absolutely make them virtually immune to EMP, at least while they're in the field. The one weak spot however, would be their visual sensors, which need to be able to receive EM radiation in order to function. So frying their "eyes" with a high-powered laser would at least render them blind. And a sufficiently powerful shockwave should be able to blow out their audio sensors as well. I doubt a deaf-blind terminator would be very capable of finding anything.

Maybe, maybe not, since that technology never developed in-universe. Judgement Day happened in 1997, when the Internet was still essentially in its infancy and before wireless networks matured. Unless Skynet itself developed and deployed that tech afterward (and from what we saw of the future in the movies, it doesn't appear to have), it never came into existence.

Obviously evading the immediate danger would be pretty easy (just go somewhere else). But really, for peace of mind, you would have to destroy the thing. (They run for years don't they? It's not as though it has a one week battery life.)

That wouldn't be unreasonably hard because you don't have to destroy it yourself; you just have to destroy its human flesh sufficiently so it can't pass for human. Then it will attract attention and other people will deal with it.

So, how hard will it be to damage its human flesh enough?

The whole Terminator premise is silly and can't ever work, obviously. You have a super-strong metal skeleton, fine. But the flesh is just normal human flesh. So when a Terminator is in a car crash or jumps through a window or punches through a wall, the actual flesh will absorb all the impact and do what human flesh does in that situation i.e. bruise and tear and disintegrate. (In about five minutes, if a T-800 did what it does in the films, you would have basically the metal thing with a few tattered shreds of flesh hanging off it.)

The problem is, it's still going to be hard to do that without giving it a chance to kill you.

Depends if you have access to firearms. You could easily shoot it from a distance enough to damage the human flesh sufficiently.

Without guns . . . you could try rigging up some sort of bomb (possibly a petrol bomb) in your house. When it goes in there looking for you, blow the thing up then get to your car and get the hell out of there. But you don't have long to do that; it will find your address pretty fast I assume. Also that would be dicey if it has a vehicle and can chase you.


Once you've damaged its human flesh, as I said, it's game over. It's gonna be this monster walking skeleton and everyone will be like wow and it's on the news and the army are called in and basically it's going down.

You need to get the authorities on side instead of chancing it yourself. Sarah Connor struggled to get help from the cops because she didn't know what she was dealing with, and Kyle Reese didn't get help because he sat in the police station going, "I'm Lt. Kyle Reese with the human resistance, I've been sent back through time," sounding like a crazy homeless man while also being dressed like one.

But we don't have to do that. OP says we know our T-800 is somewhere in the city. And because we've seen the movies, we have still more information about it. We know it's 6'2", built like a bodybuilder, walks in a distinctly robotic fashion while staring straight ahead, never shows emotion or reacts to off-mission humans, and tends to wear big jackets for weapon concealment. That gives you a reasonable description to pass on to the police. We also know our T-800 won't arrive with money and will probably kill someone to acquire weapons or, much less likely, the money to buy weapons legally. It may also kill to get clothes.

So you tell the cops to look for someone fitting that description who has stolen guns and/or clothes in the last two days. You don't have to say he's a robot from the future, only that you have reason to believe he's a threat to you and others. If they bother to look into it, they'll soon have their own reasons for wanting to bring this guy down.

The T-800 would likely give you a better death than you'd manage by your own methods. Under ideal circumstances, it can end you with a single clean, laser-sighted shot through the brain.
