Estelle Getty as an actress. She got really lucky with basically just one old, sassy, motherly, from New York type character. She is so one note here, and her line deliveries are often just so drab, community theater levels at times, just reading lines to present them to a camera. If you love Sophia from Golden Girls, skip Torch Song Trilogy and SOMMWS. She doesn’t ruin Mannequin or Mask, her parts aren’t big enough in those. As an actress she had one good, big comedy sitcom role, Sophia, but she couldn’t carry any other role or project like that, and was actively bad if she took up too much screen time in anything besides GG.

She had already started to decline from dementia at that time apparently, so that would explain the decline in her performances. She would sometimes forget her lines on Golden Girls because of it and that cunt Bea Arthur treated her like shit and was really mean to her because of it even in front of the audience. The other two old broads were really nice about it though and would stick up for her and tell Bea to fuck off if she went too far.
