I remember it so you don't have to!

It's the only musicial I don't completely loathe, if you can even call it that. It's more like a really long music video. It's about the cult of personality, no? Rock stars are only a few steps away from Hitler. Something like that. Great flick. I saw it when I was like 8.

You should watch Phantom of the Paradise

I've heard good things, maybe I'll check it out. How does it stack up against picrel?

Waters does the DVD commentary and explains pretty much everything. It's essentially an autobiography

The cult of personality bit OP mentioned for example was based on a time he spat at a fan (maybe the fan had thrown something at him, I can't remember) but he was saying that he realised then how toxic he had become

A lot of it is more obvious (drug addiction, marital breakdown, anxiety over nuclear war, growing up without a father etc) and The Wall itself refers to an emotional barrier he gradually constructed to protect himself emotionally that lead to him becoming emotionally distant from other people, when it ends with the wall being torn down it's like his attempt to open himself to other people

Guys like him are the worst. They do all that shit, take over entire projects, strip the uniqueness out of them and rebrand them with their own stupid concepts just because they need everyone in the world to know that they were sad some time ago.
>>
it's about sex drugs and rock n roll

All great artists are sad sacks
believe it or not, you're probably a sad sack too

Childhood scenes are about his dad dying in combat, while leaving behind loneliness and the paranoia of a nuclear war.
School scenes are about the UK educational system at the time. It prioritized making kids memorize information over anything that had to do with their individuality, think of it as inputting information on a computer. Anything outside the curriculum was laughed at by teachers, but at the same time, those teachers had awful lives at home, had awful younger lives at war, and were being paid peanuts.
Music scenes are about being obsessed with yourself during the peak of your career. You distance yourself emotionally from people, from your bandmates, from your fans, your producers, etc. Because fuck it, you're an idol, a god. At one point you even start hating your fans for being so blind to the real you and only wanting the good aspects of you, so you build a "wall" between you and them.
Animated scenes at the end are about accepting you have issues and attempting to open yourself to other people, even tho you feel an idol shouldn't break character (the jury even says he's being charged for "showing feelings")

I made my mom drive me to like three different video stores trying to buy a copy of this but nobody had ever heard of it or even believed it existed.

Literally, video store workers would try to gaslight me, "Yeah, I've heard of Pink Floyd, but it's an album, not a movie."

"I literally just watched it on TV a few days ago."

"Yeah, well I don't know what you saw, but it wasn't a movie about Pink Floyd, they're a band. There's no movie about them. Unless you mean like a concert, but we don't have anything like that."

Fucking small town backwater shithole. I should have just told my mom to drive to a CITY. ANY CITY.

I’m coming around to it being the best Floyd album again despite “The Wall is bloated and overrated” being conventional wisdom for about a few decades now

The opposite of a sad sack is a dumb cow.

I rate the Syd Barret era way higher than anything post Saucerful but who else was going to lead the band? And I'm someone who defends The Division Bell.

I just got this movie, why is there a thread about it all of a sudden? why does this keep happening?
WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON THIS IS FUCKING WEIRD.

There's a difference between leading the band and completely appropriating it. For me, Meddle and Dark Side of the Moon are in perfect balance. After that it was all Waters' faggotry.
