Other than Bonds hilarious misogyny, obvious alcoholism, and one skiing chapter, the book has nothing going on. At least the film has Diana Rigg to look at.

the plot was absolutely batshit insane: >while out for a drive he just randomly sees a girl trying to drown herself >so he goes to save her and then two random people try to kill him for no reason>the suicidal girl runs off >he just so happens to run into her at a hotel and fucks her >then the two guys who tried to kill Bond from before capture him>they take him to meet the girls father, who offers Bond a million dollars if he marries her >Bond, of course, refuses this offer for no reason at all >the father then says he can give Bond information on Blofeld, and then he agrees>so then Bond goes on a bunch of dates with this girl >then he ditches her to go do some actual espionage >and Blofeld's plot is even crazier. >he's planning on using cosmetic surgery on his earlobes so he can pass himself off as an aristocrat >and Blofeld has set up a lab in the mountains where he plans to cure a bunch of food allergies in some young women, but really he's hypnotizing the girls to turn them into sleeper agents and release a virus across the world

Telly Savalas was a good Blofeld, quite possibly the best, and certainly better than what came before. Donald Pleasance was feces-tier in every performance of his career, and that's why he was the only OG cast member who showed up for all the cheap Halloween sequel made during his lifetime.

It's one of the best books of the series. The opener with Tracy's attempted suicide and the blokes coming along is enigmatic, obviously, but then there's a flashback to the previous day with the casino etc that explains everything. And Blofeld's evil scheme is ingenious and not wildly implausible.
