What exactly is so bad about this movie again? This is nowhere near the worst film ever made. It literally felt like watching a Comic Book come to life, the villains for one act like straight out of the comics and stuff.

Jim Carrey and Tommy Lee Jones deliver worse performances than Arnold and Uma, especially Jones. Both of them just try be be The Jokah Baby again, even though that is not what Riddler and Two-Face is about, their performances are just grating. Arnold and Uma are actually funny, Arnold sporting probably the largest quantity of one-liners in any of his films, and Uma channeling Audrey Hepburn if she had Down's syndrome.

It was stupid, but at least they are distinct.Kiss From A Rose is a cool song and Nicole Kidman is really hot in the film, but that's where my praise for Batman Forever ends.

People see the neon and the camp and think that means the films can't be taken seriously, but both of the films are more interesting from a character angle than either of the Burton films. Forever has this funereal tone and explores the idea of what do you do in the aftermath of tragedy. Bruce is trying to figure out whether his quest for revenge is actually helping or if he should hang up the cape and struggling with the choice of who he wants to be, Dick is starting down the path of revenge, and these are paralleled in Riddler and Two-Face, whose personal tragedies have consumed them, Riddler is starting his own path of revenge in the wake of losing his life's work, and Two-face is unable to make any choices for himself after losing his perceived humanity, he relies on the coin to give his life focus the way Bruce relies on Batman. Batman & Robin deals with a similar idea of accepting death and loss of control. Bruce is no longer a young man, and is learning to let go and let others take the lead, Robin is trying to gain control of his own life, Freeze can't accept the death of his wife and enforces control through keeping her in cryostasis, and Ivy wants to take control of everything around her to prevent the death of nature. The only part that doesn't really fit is Batgirl and I try not to think too much about her in the film.

I liked The Batman. I think it rides the line between campy and like a comic book, but serious as well. Batman Begins and The Dark Knight were good. Batman, Penguin, Catwoman, they are all searching for identity and some kind of connection, and the film is mostly about the isolation of being a freak, fitting for a film about costumed heroes and villains, almost Watchmen-esque. The romance in Batman 89 and Forever both feel completely tacked on and empty, while the romance in Returns is the emotional core of the film and very meaningful.
