Why cant Hollywood understand THIS is how you make a good sequel.Rehashes are never good.

Heroine wakes up from sleep, has to see about the alien(s). She is technically skilled and generally competent, but still in over her head. She advises caution but no one listens until it's too late. Once about half the crew are dead, she reluctantly takes charge and learns the truth about the evil company. The alien(s) pick off most other survivors and she escapes from an exploding site in the nick of time with a small creature that she cares about and went back to rescue before escaping. Everything is fine on the escape ship until the alien has stowed away so she has to blast it out of the airlock, finally eliminating the threat(?) The heroine and the small creature go back to sleep, and the final shot shows the heroine sleeping, The End. Cameron wisely did a total story rehash (the original film was well-liked right at the start, so just do that again), cloaking it in his own stylistic choices to present a distinct film and make people fee like they're watching something different. It DOES have a few substantive differences (the family angle formed by Ripley/Newt/Hicks is the central one) but as I've proven it's really the same basic story again. It worked.Also TCM II ends with a goofy "chainsaw spin" from the girl which is obviously a pathetic rehash of the original, with none of its raw magic.

One of the most interesting movie monsters ever put to screen, and James Cameron turned them into space bugs. It says a lot that the story for Aliens wasn't even originally written as a sequel to Alien, he just took a story he already had and jammed the alien into it. What a creatively bankrupt "masterpiece", and it's really sad that the rest of the franchise uses Aliens as a blueprint for how the titular aliens are written.
