>>223196195I bet it's all full of heart and humor but also action and drama. That's the problem I have with the MCU, they're all fairly good but they're all good in the same way. I actually liked Fantastic Four while I was watching it but once it was done, it was like, "Yup, it was a Marvel movie." And that's how I felt about the last 3 Spider-Man movies. And this is the 4th one. This isn't huge because it's good, it's huge because people have decided that they fuck with Spider-Man this hard.

The suit and sets look real, it doesn't look like a video game cutscene (most of the time). Characters like the Hulk and Punisher are proper supporting characters to Spidey, they don't feel like they're there just to set up future movies. At the end of the day, yeah, it is just a Marvel movie, and there's a ceiling to how good that can be, but it is legitimately one of the better ones.

I saw an interesting comment that despite their focus on practical stunts like the tank chase BTS teaser we got as the first look at the movie, the final product really didn't look any more grounded or weighty than the previous films. I don't hate Holland's series at all even if it doesn't come close to Maguire's, but this was not the radical departure and improvement to the formula people were hyping it up as. It was just a decent movie with Spider-Man doing typical Spider-Man stuff.
