Why is there literally no other AYYY movie done like thisFirst contact in a logical way.Only other thing I know of even remotely like it is childhoods end but even that has some mary sue random guy as a messenger between the AYYYs and humanity.Need a grounded first contact, AYYYS come to earth and communication begins movie.
Coz the average npc thinks it's boring and or "doesn't get it".I really liked that movie.
>>223197430>I really liked that movie.I do too except the dead baby shit which lets it down.Every other aspect of how they deal with the AYYYS seems like what a realistic take on first contact would be.
>>223197430>>223197453>>223197367Because "a language that can travel time" is fucking retarded
>>223197367Contact and Close Encounters
>>223198520I didn't think it was so much a language but if you somehow could understand the language then it brainbroke your mind to be able to see in the 4th dimension which is time.
>>223198612Yeah that's fucking retarded
>>223197367What I love about this, Contact and Close Encounters of the Third Kind, is the scientists trying to figure out how to communicate with the aliens. These movies could've cut the family drama stuff out; the characters cooperating to get the first contact right is thrilling enough for an adventure already. Only Contact managed to balance out the personal drama anyway and even then it's kind of clunky with the alien dad vision bit.
Seson 4, episode 15 of TNG, "First Contact".It's a first contact episode, but we are the aliens contacting and "advanced" civilization.Season 3, episode 4, "Who watches the watchers" it's the same but better, and peak introduction to Star Trek (the first contact is made by accident and the aliens are on bronze age, so the episode is trying to fix the fuckup. So it's kinda resolves like the other episode, but with more tension and action)
>>223198520They’re a 4th dimensional civilization anon
>>223197367Do the beings in The Abyss count as "aliens" if they come from the ocean depths instead of outer space?

>>223197367I love the concept of this movie, but the story itself is fucking retarded.
>>223197430alien first contact is boring. I guarantee people will forget about it in a week while at the same time making porn about them.
>>223199589I think the Abysseans are an aquatic species from space, specifically Pandora.
>>223199175Contact does not belong in the same discussion as arrival. It's an absolute train wreck and an insult to anyone's intelligence.Carl Sagan must be rolling in his fucking grave.
>>223199670>muh storyShoo. This thread is for grown ups.
>>223199691Avatar didn't have any insinuation that any native Pandorans had that kind of space faring tech nor did any of the species seem to have any desire to leave their mother planet, but the implication in The Abyss was that they were Atlanteans from a civilization that long ago retreated from the barbaric surface races, but still kept tabs on them from a distance.
>>223197367the ending is trash that reframes the rest of the film as mere allegory for mundane nonsense. tarnished.

>>223199749I believe that the first place they did it was Pandora. I believe they were already ultra-advanced when they noticed that the Na’vi were on the verge of achieving sapience, so they re-engineered themselves into an aquatic species and turned Pandora into the unlikely paradise that it is. We’re the “serpent” intruding into their garden, and by the end of the story, I think humanity’s going to see what they're capable of.
>>223199801Hell yes.
>>223199842>I believe that the first place they did it was Pandora.Which doesn't really makes sense by the plot of Avatar since the planet was caught off guard by human arrival and the whole conflict was about how the tribal primitive navi didn't have tech to rival the human tech and had to rely on their superior knowledge of the natural habitat of Pandora, if the Pandorans were on earth all along secretly monitoring human progress with superior tech, the plot would have unfolded much differently.
>>223199957Depends on whether or not you think they stayed.
>>223199968No, your impromptu head canon doesn't make sense either way, it wouldn't make sense to stay in one place if they had superior space faring tech and it wouldn't make sense to just watch earth attack Pandora if the Panorans had superior tech.
>>223199957>>223199968To further elaborate, in the extended cut, the Abysseans were going to go Old Testament and flood us until Bud’s selfless act saved us. For all we know, that was the beginning and end of their contact with us. As for Pandora, there have been hints scattered throughout the movies that Pandora’s habitat isn’t entirely natural. And since Cameron doesn’t really seem to go for mystic mumbo jumbo, the safe bet is that he’s giving us his own corollary to the famous quote from Arthur C. Clarke, namely that any sufficiently advanced technology would also be indistinguishable from nature.
>>223200038>the Abysseans were going to go Old Testament and flood us until Bud’s selfless act saved usWhich is exactly why it makes no sense that they would just sit by and watch and let humans invade pandora.
>>223197367Because it's a piece of shit movie and there is no logic in it.Villememe can't make movies, especially sci fi
>>223199745>muh audiovisual porngo watch a music clip
>>223197430>he furiously typed while praising a dogshit flick
>>223200107Well that’s just it - I don’t think they know yet. Itks only been, what - 16 years? I think it hinges on Kiri truly waking up/becoming Eywa, which I believe to be some form of Ai that they left as a steward of the planet. So far, humans have barely established much more than a beachhead.
>>223200158>I don’t think they know yet.Which doesn't make sense if they are a highly advance species that is way ahead of humanity on the tech ladder and is engaging in interstellar travel before humans have even explored their own ocean in The Abyss.>16 years? What? The Abyss takes place in 1994 while Avatar takes 2154, a difference of 160 years.
>>223200107>>223200158Oh! And something else to consider - regardless of whether the Abysseans are related to Pandora at all, the odds of them having always been an aquatic species are highly unlikely. I just can’t see a technology reaching their level without having first gone through a terrestrial phase.
>>223197367>want to watch a movie with aliens >get this pretentious slop instead mfw
>>223200225I’m saying that they monitored humans briefly and left and that they’ve stepped away from Pandora, leaving it in the hands of the Na’vi. When I said 16 years, I was talking about the time that’s passed in Avatar so far, meaning humans have been on Pandora somewhere north of 16 years, but not *much* north of that.
>>223200271>I’m saying that they monitored humans briefly and leftWhich doesn't make sense given they saw how much of a threat humans are to the point they nearly decided to destroy them completely. And if humans somehow managed to travel to the one planet that those aliens came from, it would have to be with guidance and there would be mention of the old pandora civilization that gave them the map to the planet at some point in Avatar.
>>223197367>octopussies are psychic and blast ink everywhere to communicate>logical
>>223200316Humans haven’t just traveled to that one planet.
I really liked the gloomy and dark atmosphere. 9/10
>>223200514My favorite scene was them tossing the glow stick. That mindfucked me the first time I saw it.
>>223200329Which makes even less sense that the more advance aliens would let humans destroy a bunch of other potentially useful planets on their way to destroying the homeland of the much more advance species without reigning in their destructive conquistador inclinations.
>>223197367Childhood's End would be so good if it was not 3 episodes long, it somehow ends being full of filler and too short.I hate ending tho it really made me feel bad to watch them getting away with it all, its such a bleak way to end things; but honestly at same time most realistic, whoever is coming in here is not going to be our friend.
>>223200549Even if I’m wrong about the species being the Abysseans, I still think Avatar will involve a third species before all is said and done.
Ayyliyum craze peaked in the 70s and died when smartphone cameras became ubiquitous. There was a blip this year when supposedly real ayyy footage was released by Trump to distract everyone from the Epstein files but they turned out to be video artifacts or unironically balloons. UFOs is passe.
>>223199056It's a pretty logical next step of consciousness.
>>223200580It just doesn't make sense to try to unify Avatar and Abyss into a single universe where pandora now has the superior technology since it completely changes the dynamic between the two worlds where earth represents tech and pandora represent spirit.
>>223187796Yes. Denying free will is something sunni musselmen and other deranged people do.
>>223200704Well, that’s the thing - the Na’vi, in my conception, *don’t* have superior technology. The forerunner species does, but they’re also working on some enlightened principle similar to Star Trek’s Prime Directive, only applied to other emergent sapience in their home environment. The idea that it might be the Abysseans hit me after I watched The Way of Water, due to a combination of the name as well as the revelation that Pandora has their own version of whales. I envisioned the advanced species looking upon their duty to the Na’vi being giving them “Paradise +1” and leaving it to them to do with as the Na’vi saw fit. Then they either retreated to the ocean depths or left for the stars, not so much abandoning the Na’vi as letting them be the masters of their own fate. Then we show up and start fucking things up, but not enough to blip on the “Engineer’s” radar. Yet. Because, all things considered, humanity has barely made a scratch or been there for more than an eye-blink in the grand scheme of things.
>>223200704>>223200850Anyway, I’m off to bed. It’s been good talking to you.

>>223200735>Well, that’s the thing - the Na’vi, in my conception, *don’t* have superior technology. I wasn't talking about Na'vi, I was talking about Pandorans, they are all supposedly connected to the source, and they all work together for the benefit of the planet as a whole because they all represent a sort of primal spiritualism that rebukes the need for high tech.

We're just hoping that become more intelligent will mean outgrowing tribal instincts and kill that instinctual drive. But that's a bet. All this to say it makes me less frustrated when I get served yet another serving of that slop, that being said it would be nice if it at least starts with this type of smarter careful negotiation, even if it's a ruse from the ayys or it devolves into violence.

Look at his stuff, he likes industrial buildings, long wide shots and BWAMPPPPPP music...it got annoying as fuck in DUNC as there was the backbones of world building there but he doesnt have the skill to make it good.
>>223198520This movie annoyed the hell out of me. The idea that you could travel through time by understanding an alien language is profoundly stupid, but the theme of "any conflict could be resolved if we could just communicate better" is so feminine and even more retarded. I like the concept of language being kind of analogous to a software for our brains which limits the way in which we're able to think, but the movie ignores that human beings are physically unable to transport ourselves through time and no amount of magical thinking will ever allow you to time jump.
Arrival is part of a recent series of movies I'd describe as Dunning-Kruger Sci-Fi. Along with Interstellar and to a somewhat lesser extent The Martian, they perfectly play to the crowd that fancies themselves as (and, to be fair, may truly be) smarter than average audiences but are not as smart as genuinely "smart people." They are movies designed to make the audience feel smart by introducing complicated and heady concepts, and then holding the viewer's hand the entire way through until there is next to nothing to be left up to interpretation. If you didn't already know the twist in Arrival by the time she was in the milky section of the ship with the aliens AT LEAST, you perfectly fit the audience I am talking about. There is no reward for being smart while viewing these movies because everything is eventually spelled out in big fridge magnet letters. Any clever idea is made so transparent that even the most simple in the audience will get it. It also removes any reward for rewatching or trying to figure out what you just saw.Granted, there is a difference between Arrival and Interstellar. I think where Interstellar was pretending to have a brain it actually didn't have, Arrival has a brain that it is refusing to let the audience use.Completely disappointing movie. Also>so that just happened
>>223203067>Sounds perfect for him. Can't wait for the stuff inside the cylinder to be just a bunch of cubes
>>223203110>>223202721I just read the synopsis and it actually seems quite interesting. Seems like a story that is just about exploring an unknown spacecraft and I would assume musings of the scientists. issue there is while visually it might be good as a movie and probably something he could do as he uses a distinct industrialist/bland art style. The jews especially wont allow some sci fi movie be released without gay human drama and a romance sub plot.
>>223203179>without gay human drama and a romance sub plot.I hate that shit in my sci fi.
>>223203215Me too.Especially the romance subplot shit. They just shove it in everything. Its jew tactics. Where they once decided sci fi needs some romance shit to keep the woman occupied of they cant get asses in seats and they are stuck in marketing loop where if it aint broke, dont fix it.So pretty much every sci fi movie ever made has forced romance and human drama faggotry.A good example, look at deep impact and armageddon... both could have been better without that faggotry and both are let down by it. Armageddon more than deep impact but both are hurt by that shit in different ways.
>>223197367>Why is there literally no other AYYY movie done like thisBecause it filtered the majority of audiences, especially pseuds, and made them seethe endlessly. It's like an anti-Nolan film. Nolan films make idiots feel smart. Arrival made midwits feel dumb. Considering how popular Nolan trash is, it's not hard to figure out why this didn't inspire new films.
