Check.
>>
>>223197384
it's a good check, you have nothing to protect against and allows someone else to bluff at it

>mfw I'm in Matt Damon's place, but the turn and river ends up KK.
>>
>>223197945
Checking on the flop is acceptable (still not sure if it's the optimal play; I imagine a small bet would be smarter) but not raising against the other guy's bet on the turn was pure retardation and checking on the river was double pure retardation.
>>
I always win poker against my friends because I'm luckier and get good hands more often
Checkem
>>
>>223198369
That's the danger of slow playing. The 8 on the turn was a lucky card, nobody really had anything so I don't know how much action he was getting with a bet on any street.

Yes but they were mad that he was doing the opposite here
>>
>>223198509
Poker players are the most anal by the book people in the world. They will throw a fit if you don't play as you're "supposed" to.
>>
>>223198546
But how can you be a poker "pro" if you're just going to blindly follow a strict formula to play?
>>
>>223198251
three of a kind doesn't beat a full house, retard. seidel needs... wait i can't figure out what 1% hand he needs to come up in order to win.
>>
>>223199021
Its two kings like rick flair said
>>
>>223199021
It's two kings, anon. It'd mean he'd lose to a higher full house (kings over tens as opposed to Damon's tens over sixes)
>>
>>223198546
Last time I played I won a huge pot with pocket 5’s in the big blind. No one bet enough to chase me off the hand and I caught a 5 for a boat on the river. Some guy shoved trying to buy it and I snap called. He was livid, criticized me for staying in the hand so long with a weak 2 pair. He checked the flop and bet like 1/4 pot on the turn. I love poker but hate poker players
>>
>>223199021
running kings
>>
>>223199135
Literally what's the problem here? This is wrong but bluffing is pro?
>>
>>223198561
Poker GTO isn’t black and white. Take your table position in the hand plus the quality of your starting hand and optimal play will be like
>small blind
>QJ suited
>this should be a flat call 65%, raise 35%, and always fold to a 3- or 4-bettor
>>
>>223199166
Idk man the guy was furious. Bought back in and kept running his mouth about how bad the play is at that casino. After a few minutes the dealer told him to shut up or leave
>>
>>223199181
The unwritten rule of poker is the guy who read a book about it has to win
>>
>>223199201
It was a fucking 1/3 table lol. Fag was acting like he was playing at Aria for tens of thousands
>>
>>223199228
Normies sometimes watch too much television, he probably yells at his tv watching football games too
>>
Can you really tell that someone has a 7 instead of an 8 if someone moves their finger like they do in this movie?
>>
>>223199181
"Pro" (actually amateur) players despise "amateur" (normal) players because they haven't read the How to Win at Poker books that they have, so they don't play by the agreed-upon meta that they imagine every other player does, and might decide to play genuinely if they have a mediocre hand instead of folding on anything below a three of a kind or whatever autistic strategy they follow.
>>
>>223199272
“Tells” are almost entirely BS
The only real tells you get are when someone calls too quickly or makes a suspiciously sized wager, like a ridiculous overbet on the river after a draw didn’t get there
>>
>>223199300
To play devils advocate, that is the worst part of low limit poker. Everyone chases everything. You get sucked out on constantly because some turd with 8-3 of hearts chased a flush draw with AK on the board
>>
>>223199135
>>223199181
>>223199228
Was that man's name by any chance Phil Hellmuth
>>223199272
The movie vastly over represents how important physical tells are in poker. They exist of course, but no one who makes money relies on them as a primary tool. "Reading" other players in poker 95% of the time consists of figuring out their ranges, betting patterns, and table position and approximating what hands they likely have based on that data. Speaking of which, the movie ALSO vastly over represents how accurately you can guess another player's hand. Even pros guess wrong more often than not, otherwise none of them would ever lose.

But of course, the film is just meant for entertainment, so who gives a shit.
>>
>>223199330
Yeah, at the end of the day it sucks when you're playing the odds only to get fucked over by some idiot with a lucky draw, but that's just the game. If the odds aren't 100% in your favor, then there's always the element of chance.
If you could guess what the other player would do with 100% accuracy then poker would be as dead as faro because the game would be solved.
>>
>>223199272
No lmao
Theyre all bullshitting, its all nonsense
Reminder counting cards is banned in certain games because it actually works lmfao, nerds figured it out and the response was to throw a hissy fit like a little sissy and make them leave
Card games are for fags
>>
>>223198509
>I will never understand poker players
they're more thinking "he didn't boopski on the derf?? haha what a noob!!! (jargon allows me to pretend this game is deep and that i am sophisticated!)"
>>
>>223198561
Pros have mastered the formula and can exploit it against the more rigid players. That's the difference.
>>
>>223198400
Shit, now someone needs three of a kind or you win the pot

That was a bluff so nonsensical to an amateur that he was right to call her out. The fact she let him have is a tell she was in fact cheating. Amateurs aren't comfortable going commando, unless they don't have the slightest clue.

Damon would have 10 over kings if 2 kings showed up.
He'd still have the weaker full house, but it would be 10s over king.
>>
>>223199426
You can't cound cards in poker.
And counting cards in blackjack isn't banned because it just barely nudges over 51%
The worst a casino will do is comp you some shit and ask you to get off the table.
You only get in trouble when you're using multiple people or outside information.

>>
>>223197384
Damon isn't making any serious money in that hand unless the turn and river are hearts and mecs is being super reckless which he won't because Damon choosing to play that flop tells him he already has a decent hand
Anyone who has ever played has seen this scenario play out many many many times
Betting would just confirm mecs thoughts early on and he would insta fold so you get nothing either way
>>
>>223199300
I had a similar situation playing Pokemon showdown
>what the fuck? You put points into Niggerdon’s speed?? You fucking scrub. You’re garbage. Get off the game
Meanwhile, doing what I did caught him off guard and made me win the match.

Of course not but calling an all-in isn't a bluff.

>blindly follow a strict formula
They don't follow a a strict formula blindly. Some are looser player and some play tighter.
The formula you speak of is basically the statistical foundation of the game which they do follow in general but they still add their own spin to it.

Again, you literally can't bluff while calling someone betting all-in. its the last play of the hand, both players reveal their cards and whatever bluffing anyone did before hand is revealed for what it is.

He's not talking about whatever technical poker term you read in a book for bluffing.

He's talking about the general definition of bluffing which means to fool your opponent.
