I mean REALLY tricked- like you thought you were going to see a completely different movie than it turned out to be.

Pic related- it’s been like 20 years and and I’m still pissed about it. AT NO POINT IN ANY OF THE PROMOTIONAL MATERIAL DID THEY EVER EVEN HINT THAT IT WAS A FUCKING MUSICAL!
>>
Kek I saw it for the aesthetics/depp kino despite not really being into musicals and still liked it but that would be funny to be completely blindsided by it
>>
Moulin rouge had the same thing occur to me.

I've now learned in the intervening years that it was an updated version of a very popular broadway musical from the 70s or something, so I guess they just assumed everybody was already familiar with it- but I wasn't alive back then and nobody bothered to tell me that part. I just thought it was kind of a Tim Burton-y goth-ish looking movie where Johnny Depp and Helena Bohnam Carter go around London killing people, but then you go to see it and like two minutes in they all start singing and dancing- it's literally only one of two times I've ever considered trying to get my money back from the theater. (the other one was Harry Potter 4, but I wasn't tricked or anything, I just thought it was fucking garbage)
>>
Fucking Suckerpunch holy shit what a bait and switch
>>
this piece of shit.
promos on TV made me think it would be a goofy robotman movie with Robin Williams, not some sappy crap.

I love HBC.I rewatch all her movies and masturbate to her every day I also make Bellatrix post and masturbate to them also I also imagining her being my gf (am white chad)

I guess that was the point! You wouldn't have gone to see it if you knew the truth. The marketers took $15 out of your pocket because they didn't believe positive word of mouth would perform better. They traded your good will for $15

This movie is great, what's wrong with you?
>It's a musical!!!!!
You hate music?

Hey a comedy about a guy with a remote that controls everything looks funny it definitely won't be about how he wastes his life working and ignoring his family.
I didn't see it but honorable mention to kangaroo jack that made it seem like it was some kids movie about a singing and dancing cartoon kangaroo and not some shitty robbery movie with niggers

yeah i remember the UK trailer and how this was in the tabloids. audiences walking out. there was a snippet of a song in the trailer, but within the realm of
>maybe a guy just sings.

i suppose 'Sweeney Todd' as a 1970s musical is pop culture for dramafags, but i was genuinely expecting a dark n gritty (15-rated) slasher film jej.

rewatched it recently. only the two young unknown actors can actually sing. but overall i like the production design, and it's a lot of fun.

some MySpace part of me wishes they'd worked Sondheim's music into more of a rock opera. some Dresden Dolls type shit.

It's not that I hate musicals or anything- they're fine- I just want to know in advance that's what I'm going to see. Having a musical sprung on you when you weren't expecting one- and actually you were basically expecting the polar opposite of one- really sucks. I probably would have liked it just fine if at any point in the tv trailers they had shown like one single person singing a song, so I knew what I was getting into

>but honorable mention to kangaroo jack that made it seem like it was some kids movie
I'm pretty sure I remember that one was done on purpose because it had tested so poorly with audiences prior to release and the only way they could think to save it was to try and trick people into thinking they were going to see a different movie

Broadway version was Angela Lansbury, then just some American (Canadian?) guy? dafuq?

I definitely got tricked by that.
Kangaroo Jack and Snowdogs have to be the two most talked about movies that used deceitful marketing tactics
