in general with these kind of stories, it's a movie (or book or whatever) and none of it happenedso you can disregard any "did it happen" talk and judge what they put in front of you on its own termsit's because Total Recall and American Psycho are such good movies at the surface level that some people then wander into the uninteresting "well did it happen" question

Its pretty much one long joke where its revealed the blocked memory that cased all the problems was him saving tiny aliens who were scouts for an invasion fleet from a dog, in gratitude they decide they wont invade earth as long as he's alive, and then he dies.

If it was an implanted fantasy why would it involve being betrayed by and violently killing his hot, loving wife who he apparently had a very good relationship with? I'd have angrily demanded a refund the very second I stepped out of the machine, that's horrible
