You can just tell on a rewatch that they expected the actor to actually grow up to be a normal sized man. He is getting into fights, is on the football team, has anger issues and is confrontational. His character was literally something the actor was supposed to grow into once he hit his fat kid in high-school growth spurt, but he never did, and they had to re-write his arc into a depressed "I hate my son" sack of shit.

This is part of my theory on why there is a lack of big tits in Hollywood.
Most actresses get their start young. When you're a young actress you get roles when you look younger than you are. The kinds of teenage girls who look like preteen girls obviously don't have big chests.
Ergo, the adult actress pool in Hollywood is skewed towards smaller chests.
Picrel is an exception.

AJ was such a disappointment.

It was hard to watch some of the scenes between AJ and Tony when it was obvious that AJ would never amount to shit compared to Tony.

>>
>>223204367
Sure, but I doubt they were planning a "chad AJ joins the mob" arc
>they had to re-write his arc into a depressed "I hate my son" sack of shit.
Obviously not, Tony would hate his son no matter what
>>
>>223205107
I agree with you on the Chad arc but I'm just saying, run that scene of Tony cradling his suicidal baby son with a version of AJ that is eye level with Tony. It's just not happening. That entire arc was them leaning into the fact the actors plates fused at 13.
>>
>>223204367
>>223204858
But that's what made AJ steal the show. To this day it remains one of the most accurate depictions of a suburban "white" millennial's childhood thru adulthood. One long humiliations ritual that seemingly everyone, even a mob boss father, is powerless to stop

I think most 4chin users get upset at this story arc because it hits too close to home regarding their relationships with their own fathers. I for one hate AJ more than anything because he's soft, he's weak, he's out of control, and he's an embarrassment to everyone around him.

Nobody really talks about it but dad's in the 2000s were total pricks mostly. The same boomers today who will randomly attack zoomers for swimming in a creek past 5PM or something back then were in a constant seething rage around young men for no reason. It was way easier to deal with people's mothers when we got in trouble back then. There is something about young men that tail end baby boomers especially fucking despise.
>>
>>223205327
Because they were a bunch of fucking retards listening to Slipknot and The Strokes and watching Jackass. Boomers just knew shit was getting worse.
>>
>>223205327
And now young zoomer men are literally nazi incels. Maybe the boomers were on to something? Idk, maybe if they were all beaten as kids instead of being ignored 90% of the time by their deadbeat gen x fathers they would've turned out better.
>>
>>223205327
This is what makes Tony such a perfect character. No other show really portrayed that middle aged boomer switch-flip into girldadism and open hostility to young men that happened in the 2000s.
>>
>>223205419
Still a better dad than 99% of actual boomers. Imagine a real boomer dealing with the suicide attempt or the heart to heart he has with AJ even if fake

They should've recast him. They had no problems with recasting other characters.
>>
>>223204367

he turned out to be a more complex and realistic character than whatever Jackie Jr knockoff they had in mind
>>
AJ is the odd one out, he's the only one in the family with a moral center. Despie his low intelligence and lack of drive he fundamentally understands right from wrong and therefore he is diferent from his family and an outcast. He's not a whiny murderer like Tony, not a grifter like Meadow or a soulless materialistic striver like Carmella. The fact that even physically he fails to be what Tony wants him to be just adds to that. But I guess the Scarface audience wanted a "AJ becomes BADASS TONY JR and kicks ASS arc.
>>

>run that scene of Tony cradling his suicidal baby son with a version of AJ that is eye level with Tony
wtf does this mean they wouldnt make the character suicidal if he was tall ?
>>
>>223205624
Yeah, it works pretty well. In the show, you can see AJ turn around on the food thing when Tony called him fat.
>>
>>223204858
>never amount to shit compared to Tony
David Chase's approach was "he's better than Tony, he's not a fat, abusive, sociopathic, murdering, betraying, adulterous piece of shit". It was his way of saying that even society's losers or burnouts like AJ are still better people than Tony. The only difference is that Tony made a lot of money doing bad things whereas AJ, despite his obvious faults, is broke. Though at the end of the show he's clearly past his bottom and shows promise to improving his lot in life.
>>
>>223205681
Both AJ and Jackie Jr are to an extent good parallels of the College or Bust push in the 80 and 90s. Neither are college material, but it's what the parents kept pushing on them instead of helping them do things they might actually be good or interested in.
>>
>>223204460
There's a pretty big difference between a character who shows up in every episode and a guy who made a walk on cameo and a guy they wrote as having an identical twin. Its also not like Bobby's kids where you hardly see them, so it won't really get noticed when they recast his daughter as a fatter girl
>>
>>223204508
That would've been a pretty normal haircut for a kid his age to have in the late 90s. Yes it looks stupid, but contextually it just made him look like any other American middle schooler
>>
>>223204467
Sofia is based, Ariel is just a mentally ill thot from a fucked up family
>>
>>223205419
This. No one ever talks about that. The hyper focusing on daughters and not really caring about sons as boomers did. Boomers pushed everything onto their daughters from sports to education, and mostly ignored their sons for a couple reasons. One, because boomers still think the path to success is "get a job and follow the law", and two because their identity revolves around being the "greatest generation to ever live", being completely oblivious to the fact that they were simply handed a world so foolproof that even the most retarded of them would be a massive success compared to generations before and after them. So they need to ensure their sons don't eclipse them and they can die knowing that no one was better than them. They're the sons of the heroes of WW2, the generation that saved the world from evil.
>>
>>223205715
>college or bust

Yep, as a suburban NJ raised millenial this hit home. My parents were much better than Tony and Carm but they are white ethnics from working class backgrounds who never went to college so it had a somewhat "mystical" appeal. They are now much wiser tho
>>
>>223204858
that was the point, AJ was a human being who, when exposed to the lifestyle of a career criminal, was repulsed by it. Even when AJ tries to be a gangster, he's incapable of it. Because he has some basic decency and idea of justice, he's unsuited for mafia life, but because neither of his parents take any interest in him, he doesn't really know what he should do with himself. What that leaves is a useless guy with inherited mental illness that goes back and forth between being too depressed to move and chasing pussy
>>
>>223205681
>this
it's almost like AJ is (especially at the end of the show) a stand in for David Chase himself. Struggles with direction and meaning in life, works multiple meaningless dead end jobs, ends the story in a nice car working as a movie production assistant (coincidentally the same field Chase himself works in). AJ was never meant to be a badass, he was meant to be a reflection of Chase's own struggles much like Tony was.
>>
>>223205631
That's what makes AJ so interesting. He, for being at worst an entitled loser, is constantly seen as more pathetic and worse off than Tony, who is a literal murderer, Carmella, who is a gold digging mob wife that doesn't care if her husband cheats on her as long as she gets a new car, or Meadow, who comes full circle to just being, at best, another scumbag lawyer defending criminals and corrupt pieces of shit.
It was just Chase's way of showing how we view those that make money or are "successful" as better people. Tony is a loser. Carmella is a loser. Meadow is a loser. But because they're making or going to make money, we act like they're not.

If you ask them, the ancestor worship regarding WW2 is as cut and dry as a Saturday morning cartoon. The evil madman tried to take over the world and kill us all, and the forces of good banded together to stop him, ensuring peace and prosperity forever.
It's this mythos surrounding WW2 that drives boomers' egos. They are the sons of the superheroes that saved the entire planet.

>girls don't like me so I have to act like a little nazi faggot online

>>
>>223205107
That's one of the things that always confused me about the show. It's clear Tony was upset that his son didn't turn out tough enough. That he didn't turn out like him but he actively kept his son away from the business that might have actually made him tough. Maybe that's the point? That he's a big old hypocrite wanting his son to stay away from the mob like and then getting upset that he's doing normal things like watching internet videos. He babied him too long instead of giving him the chance to sink or swim.
>>
>>223205921
Boomers grew older and didn't get the Elder Worship that their fathers got, so they took it out on their children. As if they're ungrateful for not thanking them for the world they created for their offspring. The salient difference being boomers were handed the greatest economy and society known to man, fumbled it, and then passed a dogshit world onto their progeny.
They forgot that if you want to be respected, you need to do things that are respectable. Boomers simply existed in great times and thought it was because they were so much better than everyone.
>>
>>223205947
we dont have to but we might as well, maybe it will lead to something good in a decade or so
>>
>>223205951
Tony hates AJ because without the mafia in and around his life, he'd be just like AJ. AJ can't cut it in the mob, and he's barely cutting it on his own. Tony would be a washout too if it weren't for the mafia giving him a life he'd never be able to get on his own.
>>
>>223204367
Wonder if Robert ever got a sympathy tug from Jamie-Lynn.
>>
>>223205951
Tony didn't want his son to be a murderer but at the same time he didn't want AJ to be a giant pussy which is what he mostly is
>>
>>223205966

>>
>>223205655
Father Phil in the pilot appears in the background of one scene and is played by the same actor for the rest of the show. Barbara is similarly a background character and never has scenes of her own, she's only present during family meetings. Those are entirely different circumstances than recasting a main character

>>223205674
AJ absolutely would have had a different arc if Robert Iller grew up to be tall and handsome instead of a babyfaced chud
>>
>>223205951
>He babied him too long instead of giving him the chance to sink or swim.
AJ would sink on his own, his suicide attempt confirms it kek

The problem Tony and Carmella made with AJ is the same many, many boomer parents made with their sons: they never bothered to teach him any useful skills or life lessons and focused their attention on their daughter
>>
>>223205958
>Boomers grew older and didn't get the Elder Worship that their fathers got
A bunch of things just clicked for me.
>>
>>223206194
>AJ would sink on his own
Depends when you want to start. Ultimately he ended up how they made him: No skills and little self esteem. He knew his parents didn't think much of him, which is why his attitudes were much better when with someone (Devon or Blanca or Rhiannon).
>>
>>223204417
What's dumb about that?

>>223206194

>>
>>223204858
Tony amounted to getting shot in the back of his head in front of his family
>>
>>223206350
It literally is his parents fault who do you think raised him for at least 18 years. Sorry that you have been brainwashed by your parents to think that you are the problem but you were just a child and dependent on them for survival and there is nothing you can do about it now other than pick up the pieces of your life and stop perpetuating the cycle of abuse in other places
>>
Meadow growing up to be a mob lawyer is just perfect. I hate her so much.
>>
>>223207164
Grow a pair of balls and accept responsibility for yourself you faggot
>>
>>223207228
I'm sorry your parents talked to you like that
>>
>>223206350
But Meadow is a loser. She's marrying a mob son. She's defending criminals she knows are criminals. She's justifying all of the atrocities her father committed, because it allowed her this life. She is a fucking loser, and making money or a piece of paper doesn't make that not true.
AJ is a loser, and is still at worst getting an opportunity through his father's connections, but at least the show ends with him being the only one not directly continuing the mob life.
>>
>>223207308
Fuck, to even add into this now that I think about it, Tony ended the show disappointed in Meadow. He really wanted her to be a doctor because then he can feel at least his horrible life led to something good in the world. Instead he just has a washout son and a daughter wasting her mind to enable the life he wanted her removed from.

>>
>>223207336
It really is a pessimistic lesson by Chase that people will think someone is better just because they have money. Ends justify the means. AJ may be a burnout pussy, but it's better than being a sociopathic, murdering, career criminal.

>>

>>223205825

>>
>>223207379
The worst lesson is in exposing how many people start projecting their own self-hatred on AJ. He is a son of a literal sociopathic mob boss and is being sabotaged left and right with no clear healthy parental guidance in sight. And yet he gets all the hate from people who probably got abused in the same way and who internalized the abuse. It's unironically extremely sad
>>
>>223205280
>Why do fathers hate their sons?
Because some of you faggots are more like your mothers than your fathers.
>>
>>223206194
Boomers thought that sons didn't need any help, as if knowledge would just drop from the sky like manna, and they still hold fast to the belief that women are terribly oppressed and have absolutely no options, even to this day. It's always funny to watch boomers shit on their own offspring for being incapable, not realizing the irony that the parents are supposed to be the ones to give them the skills and confidence to go out on their own.

>>
>>223207444
It's simply because there is no room for empathy for men. By the time the show ends AJ is what, 20? 21? So he's had 2-3 years of being an adult after almost 2 decades of being raised by a piece of shit father and a gold digging mother, and people are shitting on him for his "failure to launch". Two things can be true at the same time. As an adult you can be responsible for your actions, as AJ is, and you can have a shred of sympathy for someone raised in a dogshit environment not just instantaneously "manning up" and solving life entirely.
>>
>>223207328
I don't think he ended up disappointed in Meadow. He just saw his influence coming to light. You can see it crash on him when she recites the bullshit about him being persecuted. The whole final episode is him being forced to look at how toxic he (and Janice) are.
>>
>>223207559
Free will is an illusion. "Taking Responsibility" is a spook. We all do what we can. Some can "take responsibility" others never will. The sooner people realize that the sooner we can start treating people rationally and not like they are not bound by the laws of nature.

>>223207608

>>
>>223207638
u r projecting
>>
>>223207331
You're thinking of Vito's son and he does it because he's too disillusioned with his life to care about anything anymore. Everyone in his community knows his dad was a mobster and gay. He's already going to be a miserable outcast, may as well give them all more reasons to treat him that way
>>
>>223207596
I suppose he's not disappointed in Meadow, moreso disappointed in himself for influencing her so negatively. He sees that she was bright and had lofty dreams, and instead of making the world a better place she ended up getting into a position to make the world an objectively worse place. She is using her mind, time, and energy to defend people that she knows are guilty. She does that because she can't come to terms with the fact that her father is a murdering, violent criminal and her entire life is propped up with blood money.
That one scene with the jew therapist ripping into Carmella can be extended to Meadow. Meadow shapes her life on the back of blood money and now has to justify it, because if she doesn't then she has to give it all away and remove herself from it entirely.
>>
>>223207640
They didn't have any connections, did you watch the show?
>>
>>223205280
Projection. We hate in others what we see in ourselves.
There is also image restoration involved.
If the father puts the son down in the company of others, it is him showing that he does not approve and that he does not carry himself in that way.
He is subconsciously protecting his spot on the unspoken social hierarchy by throwing his own kin under the bus.
>>
>>223207608
Meadow is a loser. She's using her Ivy education to make the world a worse place because it pays well. AJ is literally the best person of the 4 of them, and he's a burnout loser himself. At least he isn't actively making the world worse off.

Carm's "connection" was intimidating a woman who had some pull into writing Meadow a recommendation letter. As in all things, their connections are just using Tony's dirty money or the implied threat of Tony and his goons
>>
>>223207723
They're worse than losers lol
>>
>>223207657
Pretty much, yeah. You can go back to S1 and really tell the difference. Meadow herself even talks about how shitty and fake people are, even commenting an her friend's dad being a lawyer for big tobacco.

The whole arc turns on Jackie. She knows Tony was involved in his death. She either had to deal with that or turn on the denial switch like Carm. She chose the latter.

Just saying it's another hurdle that has been cleared. Either way as another anon pointed out she got a different kind of parenting than AJ. If you really think Tony and Carmella treated AJ and Meadow exactly the same, you're retarded and didn't watch the show. Point blank Meadow is smarter than AJ, but AJ had absolutely no direction in life, was never pushed to be anything more than what he was. He was largely ignored by Tony and Carmella. Jesus Christ when AJ fucked up they tried to get him into military school, just so they could get rid of him. That was their solution, make him someone else's problem and just hope it works out.

>And also you thinking Joan's letter to Georgetown getting her in to Columbia
Wrong anon, I never claimed that.
Also we're sitting here blaming a high schooler for not figuring out his entire life yet. I'm not saying he is faultless, but the idea that he had absolutely nothing going against him and is simply a genetically inferior being is just the cope of an abuse victim. He grew up in a shit environment and now he is an adult, he has to figure out his entire life on his own. Sucks, but that's life. Two things can be true. You can grow up with parents that suck that make life later on down the road harder, and you can acknowledge that as an adult it's now completely up to you to figure out life.
Tony and Carmella actually invested in Meadow and gave a fuck about her, AJ was never going to be an Ivy Leaguer but he they never gave enough of a fuck to find out what he could be. They were "college or bust" parents because boomers project their regrets over not going to college onto their children, and instilled in the generations after them that you NEED to go to college to "make something" of yourself. Once they realized AJ wasn't a genius, they just gave up entirely on him.
>>
whole show is about evil passing shit onto the next generation and making them retarded and gay, making it extremely clear. so don't be like a faggot dad or else you'll get a faggot son like aj, it's not that hard
>>
>>223205747

lol oh sure they did. what we have now is DEFINITELY not evil at all and there are no jews involved either
>>
>>223208666
>checked satan
The anon is obviously talking about how they regard themselves, not the actuality.
>>
>>223208662
But Tony didn't pass his evil onto AJ. Tony didn't really pass anything onto him, which I suppose is better because all Tony would do is make AJ a worse person as he did with Meadow. AJ is one big nothing, which is an improvement off being like Tony or Carmella, who are both horrible people.
>>
>>223208644
This just isn't true at all,b they are constantly talking about AJs school work, hire tutors, Carm is on school committees, Carm bangs Wegler to get him to change a grade, Tony buys the drums when extra curriculars are made known to be important to him and supports him in football, you're just making shit up
>>
>>223208754
>hire tutors
To offload the problem on someone else and make it look like they're doing something.
>Carm on school committees
Because she's bored and wants to keep up appearances.
>fucks to change a grade
That's more for her than AJ. She wanted to fuck that guy, she didn't care about AJ.
>Tony buys him drums
To compete with Carmella for his love.
>supports him in football
Because he wants to live vicariously through AJ. He wants him to be the football star like he thinks he should have been.

They hardly give much of a fuck about AJ. Again, he's not the hardest worker, he's not the smartest, he's not going to be an Ivy leaguer. But the world is full of AJs. Young guys without much direction that are just average at best. They still find a way to get through life. Granted he's only 21 at the end of the show. The way people talk about AJ is as if he's a 38 year old jobless bum living at home. They also see Meadow as a presumably rich attorney and think that if he's anything less than her, he's an abject failure.

I think you have to factor in the Catholic thing. Feminized cultures like Italy where the mother is all-holy and the father is a sinner. The shame and guilt trickles down.

My dad hates me and I never even realized why. He was never really close; he wasn't absent but I mostly had to fend on my own. The second covid hit he went and got into meth out of desperation and would constantly troll me for money, then he went and had another son out of spite. I think the idea is that there's this deeply ingrained shame and fear in men like that that their "bloodline" will be snuffed out.

Sex. The boomers were entering middle age and fucking hated adolescent boys out of pure seethe. Yes, boomers viewed their own children as sexual competitors; this fact explains much about the current state of the world.
>>
>>223210986
Look up the "lost boys" of Utah. A lot of able young men are literally being sent away to die so the old men can have more pussy.

In fact there's always been this mythology that the promiscuous father is supposed to be slain by the young, who are supposed to rebel.

Yeah, and its not just Mormon cultists. Boomers sold the country to spite their children: DEI, H1-B, illegals allowed to stay, "muh property values" are just some examples.
>>
>>223211276

My favorite AJ scene, and I think the most important one, is at Bobby Baccala's funeral. Everyone at the table is just having a breezy, superficial conversation about movies and American Idol at the funeral for a guy who was brutally murdered. AJ lashes out but isn't articulate enough to convey what he's sensing; the absurdity of the entire situation. I think everyone would agree that every one at the table was smarter than him and, yet, he experienced the anger and anguish of the scene more than anyone else.

Looking back, does Sopranos hold up in 2026 as well it did back then? Are the later seasons as good as the initial seasons? Did the middle seasons suffer too much from having the same reoccurring plot of someone being released from jail and causing problems?
>>
>>223212034

Yes. Yes, though the tone is markedly darker. No.
>>

My grandparents were the ones who worked their asses off. They bought my dad a house when he got married to my mom, plus paid for the construction of his own business with tons of expensive machinery.

Guess what I got when they died? Nothing. My dad sold their mansion in the canyon, all their vehicles and valuables, kept it all for himself. I can't even bring a girl home because I can't afford my own place so I'll never marry or have kids of my own.

I always thought him undeservedly being in the football team would have made sense given what happened with the soccer coach in season 1 and his dad's commonly known association with the mob, but admittedly the show never really alludes to this. Otherwise, his progression as a privileged teenager with below average intelligence, brought up in the household and atmosphere he was, made sense. I think they didn't really give him any really substantial plotlines until the last season because Sigler was the clearly better actor and had better chemistry with Gandolfini.

I think a common complaint we see ITT is parents that often don't have any interest in their children past surface well-being, my dad thought it was a vast improvement from his father's version of parenting by actually even being there occasionally at all and asking about school once a year. The first time I slept over at a friend's house I was stunned by how much the children talked with the parents and how many questions they had for them, that they'd remember my name and interests etc As I grew into adulthood it got better, I guess they just didn't consider children worth the conversation or something.

It's not so bad all things considered though, the boy three houses down from mine would catch a beating about once a month. I don't harbor any bad feelings for my parents, they did their best.

Unfortunately their best was horseshit and they literally sabotaged you for life but it's nice that you forgive them. Would be kinda awkward having to go through all that emotional neglect after the fact. It's much easier to pretend that everything is fine

>>223211734
Blame the wannabe goombahs who glorified the characters and put Scarface and Godfather posters on their walls. The lack of basic literacy and understanding of media continues to this day.
>>
>>223224693
eh, we're all sabotaged in some way or other, when I see how badly some people were fucked up I consider I got lucky. I've talked about all this stuff with my parents already, cleared up a lot of things but made me think up new questions, ultimately I don't think I'll understand until I have my own children. A lot of it is just a severe lack of communication skills in our family, we're the kind of people who just choke down our suffering and march on wordlessly
>>
>>223225056
yes yes everyone has it bad and you are lucky they didn't rape your or tortured you with hot water so you better stop complaining young man! you can't imagine how hard it is to have shitty little children like you. all that abuse was simply a matter of miscommunication tehe
>>
>>223225229
hm, don't recognize this brand of trolling, interesting.
>>
>>223225586
it's the complex trauma that you'll find everywhere by people who are going to continue the abuse and neglect because they'd rather make peace instead of admitting that they had a rough start and that the people they love did not always have their best interest in mind
>>
>>223225614
>the people they love did not always have their best interest in mind
this is something most people realize once they become a teenager, parents are just humans like anyone else with an optional bias of affection for you
>>
>>223225661
believe it or not but there are actually good parents out there and children are incredibly good at playing down their neglect and abuse because they literally depend on their parents with their life

i'm not saying to have a mental breakdown and that you are irrevocably fucked but if you standard of parenting is "at least they didn't hit me" then you are fucked big time. a lot of the damage is also done by the absence of positive things. babies literally die without enough love and the absence of adequate emotional support and guidance can lead to some very self destructive habits and coping mechanism

your parents probably went through a similar thing and maybe they even improved a bit. but if you truly want to break through the cycle and not merely "improve it a bit" you'll need to completely separate (at least for a time) and look at your situation objectively in the big picture and not how it measures up against your immediate environment

My experience is filtered through my environment, obviously I wasn't lucky enough to grow up in a neighbourhood where most parents were as you describe. If I only took the best as my standard I'd be fucked as I spent a year in a poor person exchange program in a rich private college in Hong Kong so I knew just how bad my situation was when I got home and how little opportunities I had in comparison both at home and at school.

I agree with most of your points but you're coming about it like it's some big revelation you're imparting on the masses. There's no point in harboring resentment over the past, I've been out of the house for a decade now, it's over and dealt with and I see my parents as fellow adults rather than guiding figures, mostly because I saw early on that they wouldn't be able to help any further. As I said, they did the best they knew to do, as I grew older and talked to them about it a lot of it is just the natural product of how they lived their life up until then and the models they themselves had. Every well-intentioned parent imo believes they are breaking the cycle of whatever perceived abuse/neglect/incompetence they went through as a child and invariably every single one to my knowledge fails to some degree. My aunt didn't allow her children to have friends because we lived in a semi-dangerous area and they're still fucked up in the head imo but she thinks she's a saint for preserving them.
They did better with my brother than me, but we both came out of it alright. It really is no big deal if you've dealt with it appropriately, our childhood may be the clay of our life but it is our hands that sculpt it. Sure I had a rougher start than most (in the USA at least) but that's no reason to feel bad about it or use it as an excuse for any failings I might have as an adult, I'm good now

I dislike 'objectively in the big picture', I get your intention but 'objective big picture' is not something humanly attainable in the literal sense.

Speaking as a middle aged father, the shit most boomer dads did to their own family is nothing short of appalling. For instance, asking my dad for any kind of help was met a childish outburst of anger complete with a harangue of profanity. Boomer dads had this idea that fatherhood was just work and watching sports and everything else would just fall perfectly into place.

I get the impression that they wanted to make a Jackie Jr type of him, yeah. He's just low IQ and starts off kind of brutish, though he's too spoiled to make it in the mafia.

Later, they tried to make him out to be this introspective melancholic type, but it didn't mesh with how fucking dumb he was. People who fail highschool English don't have existential crises.

AJ plans and almost succeeds at executing his great uncle who is locked in a federal institution. He only spergs out because subconsciously he knows it would destroy his family.
VJ is clearly preparing himself to be a law unto himself with zero cares about what society thinks of him.
The point was made. They were rising stars that had to be respected.

I relate to AJ more than any other character in a movie or tv show

You know the retards who say "it's comic books it's for kids and you're complaining about it"?
This is boomer cringe power fantasy shit. This is degenerate "Oh yeah, boomer, very 18 year old in the world wants to suck your dick, because you have all the cool cars, you fat sex boomer, you." This is the capeshit of the boombooms.
