I hated it. An insipid, puerile, cheap, manipulative pile of hollowed-out ventriloquist-esque, lifeless, performative emotional puppetry.It had potential. The idea is cool, the visuals were ok. The initial meetings between Grace and Rocky were interesting but as soon as they got the "humorous" Patton Oswald imitator computer voice it was insufferable garbage. The emotional cues are about as subtle as an elephant painted as a clown hitting you in the face with a brick. Easily manipulated simpletons probably cried when the movie commanded them to do so. That very quality is what reeked of manipulation and inauthentic emoting to me. Like "This is the scene where we make the audiencd cry, can you hear the crying music? That means you're sad and now you cry. Please begin." Pathetic. Hamfisted. This is a marvel movie dressed up as sci-fi. I hate the faggot author of the book and everything he's written. Yes, I've read all the books but only did that so I can actually critique them. The biggest problem I have with PHM is the author goes out of his way with autistic info and HECKEN SCIENCE to appease the mouthbreathers yet the plot relies on so many deus ex machinas that it's laughable. Whats the point of doing all that math and research and exposition when the characters survive and complete their mission due to outrageous luck? My biggest gripe was when Rocky leaves his bubble and sacrifices himself to stabilize the ship. It made a good emotional climax to the movie's big action sequence, but there's no consequences or creative solution to save Rocky afterwards. He just hibernates for a while and then he wakes up and we're back to status quo. Sure there's the problem of Grace having to science the shit out of the taumoeba without Rocky's help, but there wasn't any particular timeframe or urgency to that problem and he just randomly figures it out after a short trial and error montage. The part where they solve the plot was the weakest part of the whole flick.
