I've never been a "didn't age well" guy, but I'm going through the oldest Seagal movies now and apart from Under Siege, they all kinda suck. A cool fight scene here and there, but the overall movies are pretty boring. None of the charm of the 80s and 90s movies by Arnold and Sylvester.

Disagree, the run of Above the Law 1988 to Under Siege 1992 was great, five really fun awesome action films. On Deadly Ground is a hilarious misfire, basically Sesgal doing self-parody, but unintentionally, and it's extremely fun to watch if objectively bad. The ones after that range from terrible to decent ending with Half Past Dead, his final theatrical film. Nothing past that is worth watching

Steven segal exists solely for fatguys to have a power fantasy
>>
>>223208781
He was skinny in Above the Law, which btw was his best film
>>
Seagal flicks were always shite

>I've never been a "didn't age well" guy
Don't try to rewatch Conan the Barbarian.

Enjoy the ban Ivan

It was never that good desu. One of the few Arnold movies I didn't care for.
>>
>>223208867
Always thought Krull and The Beastmaster were better movies

I'm not the sort of person who cares about this kind of thing at all, but segal unironically only had a career because of racism.

why would anyone watch segal pretends he knows martial arts via the power of jump cuts cop movie when you can watch fucking hard boiled which completely annihilates it in terms of action? because the actors are asian and americans need a white-adjacent protagonist like segal
>>
>>223209132
Hard Boiled is so fucking overrated, as is Woo in general. There are dozens of far better HK action movies than any that he made. I'd much rather watch Under Siege.

I really like the scene when Seagal asks Joan Chen if she knows how to ride a horse and she says"of course, I'm Native American".
>People don't have instinctual magical abilities because of race
>Even if they did, horses didn't come from North America so that line doesn't even follow the logic of the film's mysticism
>Barring that, Alaska was one of the last places in North America to get horses
>Joan Chen is Chinese

You're real lucky Sensei Segal is busy leading Russian spec-ops in Kiev! Otherwise he would snatch your birthday!
>>
>>223208647
Marked For Death is fucking kino you uncultured swine. And On Deadly Ground is the greatest comedy of the 90's.

The over the top macho shit is the whole comedy aspect that transforms it into kino. You are missing out, OP.

Seagel knew how to sell himself which matters when you pretend to be a martial arts bad ass actor type to a bunch of coked up hollywood producers
>>
>>223209714
Seagal has some of the best one liners.
>I'll take you to the bank senator, to the BLOOD BANK
>>
>>223208647
Segal is a turd without a drop of charisma but fuck off if you didn't have fun watching Marked for Death, it would be considered a minor classic if they just got one of the Expendables to play the lead

>AAH MY NUTS!

The dude honestly reminds me a bit of Tommy Wiseau and he has produced most of his output. At least some of his 80's/90's movies are worth it because he somehow managed to work with either a solid director/casting directors or he just lucked out with people needing a pay check or something. Fire Down Below has Marg Helgenberger, Harry Dean Stanton, Stephen Lang and Kris Kristofferson all putting in great performances. Out For Justice has an insane William Forsythe right on the money as the villian and Gina Gershon and Dominic Chianese backing it up. Why On Deadly Ground sucks is probably due to him directing and having even more creative control. Feel sorry for Michael Caine and Joan Chen playing retarded comic book tier idiots but John C. McGinley is really good in it. It was nominated for six Rassies (he won director).

Still a masterpiece

on deadly ground is big time kino
fuck you niggers
>>

it's a very 'comic book' movie. if you're not a nerd who likes stuff like D&D, you're not going to like Conan.

America is the single biggest market for HK action cinema, obsessed-kun

I used to agree on his early run but i recently saw Hard To Kill again on the 'Flix and it sucked so bad. It was my fav Seagal movie growing up but i don't think apart from Under Siege and Above The Law they don't hold up. He's just too macho for todays standards and not in that good Schwarzenegger way
>>
his first 4 movies are all great. i didn't like Under Siege, that one breaks the streak for me.
after that it's mostly hit or miss.
the two from his later period that were good were A Dangerous Man and Force of Execution.
Maximum Conviction, his team-up movie with Steve Austin, is also pretty fun if you're a fan of both of them. it's probably the best movie that Austin is in.

Hard to Kill is great. Though it would be even better if they had made it more violent like they planned originally. It's a simple and corny revenge tale but highly entertaining and a microcosm/exemplar of low budget 80s/90s action films.
In retrospect it isn't as good as Above the Law, Under Siege, or Marked for Death, but better than Out for Justice or anything he did after 1992.
