Meanwhile over at DC headquarters…
>>
Get over it
>>
>>223214594
Why? It's not watchable. I didn't even bother with flash, justice etc. Just shit.
>>
>>223215062
Because it was profitable at the start unlike James Gunn unlike James Gunn
>>
>>223214640
who are you talking to
>>
Snyder and Gunn both sucked there's no hope for DC
Too much failure over too many years
>>
>>223214594
Fake and gay
>>
>>223215566
The papers, the papers
>>
>>223214594
whether you like the movie or not studio meddling ruined a chance of something interesting after BvS which is still discussed 10 years on. Who the fuck discusses a marvel movie 10 years on.
>>
>>223214594
I know we've beat this horse to death but honestly, it is impossible to overstate what an epic, absolutely horrific, company-killing nuke the botching of the Snyderverse was. Consider the magnitude of the failure:

1) It killed a consistently profitable shared universe. It wasn't making as much as they *wanted* it to, but that's a very different problem from not making money AT ALL which is all that's happened since. They took profitability for granted and discovered it's far from automatic. Which is especially retarded considering both the Batman and Superman franchises both had to be shelved at some point in the past because they managed to kill the golden goose. WB of all companies should have known the brand alone is no guarantee of anything

2) They basically doubled the cost of the Justice League production to reshoot huge chunks of it to Whedonize the movie despite the fact that they could have just spend the 30 mil HBO did to make the Snyder version, which would have given them 2 films' worth of content AND been better received by the fans (which we know because the Snyder cut was, in fact, better received by the fans). They doubled expenses to make half as much money while alienating their entire fanbase. Not a great plan

3) They had no exit strategy or transition plan and eventually just had to admit the DCEU was dead while still having a bunch of films in progress so they ended up shitting out multiple DOA films that cost hundreds of millions each. Flash, Blue Beetle, Shazam 2. Just a complete fucking bloodbath that went on for like a year. And again, this was what they chose to do instead of MOS2, solo Batfleck and fast-tracking Aquaman 2 instead of fucking with James Wan

4) And the worst part might be that now even though it's become clear they fucked up there's no fixing it. If you reboot AGAIN everybody just stops caring but no one likes the Gunnverse so you can't stay the course, either. It's a no-win situation
>>
a tweet so real op didn't link to it
>>
>>223215792
Spider-Man 2 is still considered the greatest superhero movie of all time right now, while any discussion about BvS is about either how shit it is or what baffling decisions made it be so shit.
>>
>>223214594
How does this guy have a career? He's a hack.
>>
>>223215566
That's what happens when one gets to make their films while everyone is hyped up for both the genre and for this universe to finally be represented in all it's glory, rather than individual films like previous.
And the other gets to make their films when faith in the franchise is at an all time low, interest in the genre is diluted and muddled like mad and their most direct competitor is still riding high from their peak even as it too is starting to fall apart.
>>
>>223216095
Don't forget thing like batgirl, the movie exist, they filmed it, edited it but...never released it

Adapting the Dark Knight Returns is a retarded idea. The comic is based off decades of continuity that the movies don't fucking have. The Batman / Superman interaction doesn't work if they have zero history. Green Arrow showing up doesn't make any sense if the only Green Arrow anyone knows about was from a CW show. The Joker wouldn't be any of the Jokers we've seen before. Jason Todd being dead and Batman accepting a new Robin doesn't mean anything if there's never been a Robin in the first place. Carrie trying to be Robin to begin with doesn't make sense if there's never been a Robin in the first place.

TDK is an ending. Making TDK just out of the blue with no context is like skipping the first seven Harry Potter books and just warping straight to Deathly Hallows. It keeps coming up because it's popular but it's a terrible introductory point. It's dependent on a lot of pre-existing relationships that won't exist because there won't *be* any prior movies in the continuity.

Snyderino universe is also shit, only the first two movie are somewhat ok (for cape standards). In that shit flash movie they even made Clooney Batcuck canon.
Reminder the Clooney movie were he smile like a retard while Alfred is dying on the couch and he has the batman credit card? All canon.

You nailed it, even while it was going on it was so ridiculously self destructive that it didn't take hindsight to realize how much they repeatedly shit themselves in the foot at every step.
But seeing it all summarized together after it all just tells a confusing story. How fuckig dumb are they as a company to sabotage and prevent movies from being made. This sort of over protective micromanagement ironically losing them money at every turn because they send random naysayers to tell experienced veteran film directors what to do at the behest of random unproven think tanks.

And best of all, there's no consequences to any individual at the studios. None of the bean counters or producers are ok the hook or notable enough for having screwed this up. No, we just have the directors who were basically victims of a mid race carjacking that saw their lead get ruined.
>>
>>223218605
what he said

>>223218161
I think part of the lukewarm reception to that movie was the lack of a new villain. People by that time wanted Bizarro or Brainiac, not Lex on his own again

james gunn has 2 movies and 3 shows, and none of them connect to each other or even seem to be set in the same universe
no idea how the fuck is lanterns supposed to happen in the same world superman was in

also Creature Commandos was just "but think about the holocaust" kiked shit
>>
>>223217404

Superman did fine and Lanterns is working out well for HBO. Supergirl was a dumb idea from the start and it didn’t help the movie was horribly ugly and mediocre.
>>
>>223220891
after supergirl flopped its already a failure 2 movies in
also james gunn is too much of a crazy jew even by hollywood standards

peacemaker 2 ? all about nazis and jews
creature commandos? all about nazis and jews
lanterns? all about muh reperations and space racism

even leftoids cant keep up with it, even biggest goys called peacemaker drug orgy too much

>Superman did fine
>Superman will be released on digital streaming via premium video on demand on Friday, Aug. 15, Gunn announced on X on Tuesday, with a follow-up confirmation of the release date by Warner Bros. Discovery Home Entertainment. When to Stream, which is typically accurate with its PVOD reports, reported on Saturday that Superman was coming to PVOD on Tuesday, Aug. 26, so the announcment of the earlier release by Gunn on Tuesday comes as a big surprise.

One massive bomb isn’t a pattern, if another movie bombs then I’d say it’s dead. Unless it hurts the Superman branding in terms of merch and stuff, but I think it’s more likely Supergirl stuff will continue to sell despite the bomb just because the Superman brand sells.

This is perfectly in line with the trend of when movies get placed on streaming. The agreements between theaters and studios is structured so that the cut for movies increases over time. Therefore, studios have been quicker to pull movies from theaters when they start seeing less returns in hopes are turning would be ticket buyers into subscribers. Superman dropped 36 days after release, well within the 30-45 day trend, and still passed the $600k benchmark everyone online was obsessed with after it got on streaming. I find the release window argument really weak when it comes to assessing failures instead of determining smash hits. And Superman not being a smash hit doesn’t mean the universe is dead, that’s a very hyperbolic claim.

>They did, it was called Superman Returns
No, that was a bizarre mix of Donner and some truly stupid ideas. The best parts were the ones that felt like they could have been in the Donner movies, like the plane, boat rescue, bullet to the eye, and generally optimistic theme. The kid and kyrptonite plot just felt really stupid and drug the feeling down. Turning Donner's Superman into a deadbeat dad just shattered the depiction.

Zack is not good with writing stories, just adapting them. With DC he had all the material and story available. He has a very specific style and was trying a serious take on DC, which can often drift into silliness and camp. I won't say I entirely agreed with his vision of characters like Superman, but it was interesting to see his interpretation and I wish he'd been left to make a Superman trilogy before any team-ups. WB trying to speedrun a Marvel universe was the biggest blunder.
